A lot of the commenters aren't grasping the idea that a solo instance would be a self-contained, themed experience, separate from other players. Think of it like an amusement park ride, say Indiana Jones at Disneyland. Players could go through an environment full of trigger events and timed challenges, maybe even using instance-only items to advance to the end.
Truth is, I think there's a real opportunity to do something creative here, and also throw a bone to the many players who are uninterested in or don't have time for raiding and PUGs. (When I get home from work, I want to unwind alone, but I don't want to level another alt.) If WoW is to have a real future, this element of the game will need to be addressed.
