Blizzard posts their own Netherwing faction guide
.jpg)
In Patch 2.1, Blizzard introduced daily quests, the Netherwing faction and nether drake mounts. Through a combination of solo and group daily and one-time quests, players can grind their faction from Hatred to Exalted in as little as 14 days. At Exalted, players can then buy an epic flying mount, the nether drake.
This has been well documented since the patch, but now Blizzard has added their own guide to grinding out the Netherwing faction. Their guide gives a nice overview of the quests involved without too much extra detail. It also links to their Burning Crusade page that covers the origins of the nether drake as well as a trailer.
If you're new to flying mounts, check out Blizzard's guide first. If you like what you see, try WoW Wiki's guide (linked in the paragraph above) for a more detailed look at the quests involved as well as a list of bugs. As for me, I'll stick with druid flight form. And trying to scrape together that 5000 for the riding skill.

I thought at Exalted the drake was given to you. You pick which color netherdrake to be your companion, so you have to chose well (Only get 1).

You are granted a netherdrake at exalted for your service to the netherwing, through the daily quest grind.
The nether ray, on the other hand, you have to purchase after grinding Sha'tari Skyguard faction to exalted. The price is standard epic flying mount price: 180g.

I was under the impression that you got one netherdrake for free, but you could but other colors.

@3
Yea you are correct. The first drake is free, and you can buy additional drakes for 200g (180g because of exalted rep).

I love the new rep grinds Blizzard introduced in 2.1. The Netherwing rep grind is tedious from Neutral to Friendly, but, once you unlock the quests in the Netherwing mine and Booterang things get easy. Plus, the gold from the dailies is awesome. Finally, my netherdrake is just a very sexy looking mount.

This faction is easily one of the best designed "grinds" for faction blizzard has come up with.
And beleive me ive tried many others and simply gave up.
Heck, i made close to 2000g getting to exalted!

@7 Yes, but they NERFED THE LOOT from the mobs you kill. I got my drake before they did this. The mobs you needed to kill used to drop coin, and about 75% of the time, cloth. Now, the cloth drop is around 75%, and there is no coin.
Hank Aug 24th 2007 11:03AM
ack! Cloth drop is now about 25%.

The hardest part is that 5,000g to even get access to the quests. I'm almost to 4,000 right now...only took me 4 months.

Druid flight form *requires* you get epic flying before you can even start the quest chain, *and* it requires that you be revered with Lower City so you can do Sethekk halls in heroic mode.
The gold is the easy part - do the Skettis and Ogri'la daily quests (6 for 72G total) and you'll not only be to 5000G before you know it, but you'll be exalted with the Sha'tari Skyguard, so you can buy a Nether Ray mount if you really want one, or buy a regular epic flying mount. Personally, I like the regular mount better - the nether ray is too "bouncy".
The Netherwing quests come after that, and aside from the pathetic drop rate on the collection quests, and the elites that wander around waiting to gank you, it's an okay grind so far. It'll probably be months before I get to exalted, but at the rate I do Shadow Labyrinth, I may have my nether drake before I have epic flight form. :-)

I was able to get the Netherdrake mount in just 8 days from start to finish as a Dwarf. Humans can probably do it in 7 days. Each day I probably turned in between 4-10 eggs as well.
Bachus Aug 24th 2007 4:58PM
It takes 14 days if you do all possible daily quests plus all the other quests, but *not* turn in any eggs. That's the sucker's way.
Grind the eggs. Spend 90% of your time in the mines. The other 10% should be doing the easy dailies like the Booterang, and searching the ledge and Dragonmaw fortress for eggs to supplement the ones you find in the mines. Don't bother with the Slow Death or Netherwing Relic quests. They're awful, and will make you want to tear out your hair.
I completed it as a gnome (so no rep bonus) in seven days.

Took me 4 days to grind my epic flying, starting at 1k gold. o.O
