Blue Notes: WotLK mounts and reduction of epic mount costs
Blizzard Blues have been active on the official forums. With rampant speculation about the upcoming Wrath of the Lich King expansion, they've mostly had to give the standard variation of the "no comment" reply. But on two expansion mount issues they were able to give a small bit on insight.- Player Serpentis requested a windserpent mount in WotLK. New Blizzard poster Bornakk reported that new flying mounts are being considered, but nothing will be revealed until they are closer to releasing the new expansion.
- Player Knightxl wanted to know if the cost to train for epic flying mounts will get a reduction with the expansion the way epic land mount training costs were lowered. This rumor has been floating around for the last month or so. Drysc gave us a little more clarification than last time. He responded that the epic land mount training costs only got a reduction because the mount training skill was getting extended with the Burning Crusade expansion. No new mount skill increase is planned in WotLK, so no reduction in price is planned for the epic flight mount training cost.

I'll just add my post in support of:
1. Hippogriffs
2. Bats
3. Dragonhawks for BE (they were mounts in TFT after all)
4. Pegasus, although these don't exist in WoW lore that I am aware of, they would fit in with all the other creatures taken from Greek mythology (centaurs, harpies, chimera, hydra, minotaur (tauren), satyrs, etc)

@Milktub: Roll a Druid... ;-)

A refund for people who paid 5k gold for an epic flyer now is something I wouldn't even agree with (yes, I do have one). It's the price you pay for being an early adopter. You wouldn't go to Apple a year or two later after you purchased an iPhone saying you want the difference refunded.

Land mount: A polar bear-ish mount with cool furbolg-style tribal armor, which gives you a 20% speed increase ON TOP OF the regular epic mount speed when you ride on snowy/icy terrain. You'd have to attain this mount not through faction, but through a challenging (but soloable) series of quests that involve liberating your future steed from some nasty fortress-type place.
Air mount:
- A shaggier, wintery version of the Horde wyvern, but modeled a bit more to look like Alliance cat mounts. Like a flying snow leopard wyvern.
- A skeletal flying horse or dragon. Perhaps to get the dragon you have to re-animate some bones in the ancient dragon burial grounds in Dragonblight.
- Or a wind serpent would be cool, sure.

Feldrake for Warlocks.
Bats for hordies as a whole.
Teradactyls! (sp?)

I want an Epic Druid mount for my BE paladin. Just a dude (drude?) that I keep in my inventory who can instant cast his flight form so I can fly him around. This makes perfect sense considering how evil... er, persuasive, the Blood Elves can be. Make it happen, or else...

A hoverboard, and a name change to McFly

I'm interested in exactly how they'll handle flying in the expansion. Last I remember there was a comment that we won't be able to fly right off the bat, but will later on. Quest? Money? New mount type (But sounds like no new skill)?
As far as flying in Azeroth goes...I personally don't see the cost/benefit on that one, not yet.
For the benefit, well, you can get around faster, but there's almost no content at 70 back in Azeroth. So not really much benefit to the majority of players.
For cost, well, it's pretty comlpex. First, you have to redo the vast majority of the terrain between zones. Most of it has holes or jagged areas, and has no texture or only a placeholder. You also have to rework all towns, adding guards or access to upper levels for all. Then there's all the unopened zones, the outdoor dungeons, how to handle the edge of the world, and those little areas you can see from a flightpath (These may or may not take much work, but do take some design decisions.) Yeah, most of it is simple work, but pretty time consuming. Perfect for an intern:)
Now, as time goes on and more content is added to Azeroth, maybe they'll enable it. I wouldn't be too suprised to find out they already have people working on it (Any acknowledgement of this by Blizz would result many more "When will they be enabled" questions than the current "Why not" questions.)

Baron Revilgaz's Cannon Ball (500% flying speed for 30 seconds, but can be launched only near siege weapons)
Brewmaster's Keg (60-360% randomly varying flying speed)

Two words: Frost Wrym.

I like your suggestions, #28. Good ones!

DUH! Bats and Hippogriff.
Wing serpents vs. Dragonhawks
And dragons would be nice eventually...
And PLEASE. Why did BE pallies get horse mounts? They should have gotten a special version of their racial. What was that about?

Well they really should have mounts for each race, including some rare one which u can get fron instances/raids.
Alliance
Night elves= Hippogrphs
Gnome= Gyrocopter
Dwarf= Plane
Human= Griffon
Dranai= Dumbo
Horde
Orc= Wind Rider(wyvern)
Troll= some kind of new mount (maybe a reptilian based one)
Tauren= somthing big (they dont look right on the back of a wind rider)
Undead= Giant Bat
Blood Elf= Dragon Hawks (if those of you can remember WC3 the high/blood elves ride them into battle)
Special Mounts
old ones( nether drakes, nether rays and the pheonix)
New ones
Regular Drakes = black, red, blue, green, bronze ect)
Epic Dragon mount= same colours as the drakes.
Hellish lookin creature = u can get for warlocks.
Pegasus mount = for paladins
Yeah basically this is what they need, i mean they have a diverse range of grounds mounts why not flying ones to?

Chimeras, like the ones commonly found in Winterspring.
