Breakfast Topic: The prequel
I know our own Elizabeth Harper had already started re-playing Warcraft III before BlizzCon, and a few days after I came home I reinstalled it (although Bioshock is taking up more of my time lately than anything else-- stupid Big Daddies). But what about you guys-- now that we know Arthas is just around the corner (in relative terms, of course-- this is Blizzard, after all), have you gone back to check out the last RTS game Blizz released? If you've never played it, not only is it an awesome game, but you've probably already guessed from everything we've seen so far that it will be a perfect prequel to what we'll see in Northrend. Sure, if you've already heard all the lore, the whole thing's been spoiled for you, but if you really want to see what happened in Stratholme before we do the new CoT instance, or what all the echoes in the Lordaeron throne room are about, or even why there might be an Old God in Northrend, the game is worth checking out.
Are you planning on playing it if you haven't before, or have you already gone through it again lately, in expectation of seeing Arthas again?

I might pick it up, as I've never played it. I have no doubt it's a great game, but with WoW and already having known the Lore... eh.

I still cannot for the life of me find out whether Arthas and Anub'Arak killed an old god or just a servant, or whether that thing is even dead in the first place.
Guess we'll find out in a small year or so.

Strangely I finished the human campaign only yesterday....coincidence or what?

haha, just reinstalled it two days ago, exactly for the same reasons - to warm up for Northrend action.

Bioshock is definitely worth the time so far... Good stuff.
Oh yes, WC3 is good too...

Since I can not play WoW where I am at I had just purchased this game since I have never played it before, I know the Lore mostly, but not like WCIII does it. I am learning a lot I hadn't known before.
It is a very kewl game but sort of irritating too, losing all my gear at the start of a new campaign and all, levels and all that. But still enjoyable and interesting Lore wise (mostly).

@2: I'm pretty certain that someone at BlizzCon confirmed that it WAS one of the Old Gods. Or at least hinted at it.
Makes sense, since Azjol-Nerub is sort of the "sister" city to Ahn'Qiraj. Both are big bug hives, controlled by the Old Gods, and it makes sense that buried deep inside each city would be an Old God in person.
So to me, the big question is: did Arthas really kill the "Forgotten One" he encountered? Permanently? Maybe he found a way to resurrect it as Undead and bring it back to life under his control. That would be...bad. For Azeroth. But awesome for us.
I've never seen anything that would suggest that there were lesser Old Gods that would be servants to the main 5 (or is that 4?) so I don't really see where that theory comes fromm.
If you still have any doubts, this screen shot may help. Looks just like C'thun, even down to the tentacles and eyestalks (which I didn't get in that shot).

Oh yea, I forgot to talk about WC3!
I recently installed it on my new laptop to play through the Horde campaign in Frozen Throne. If you haven't played through it, you should. It's much more like WoW or Diablo than WC3; you typically control a few hero characters, there's no base-building, and they ramp up the whole "RPG" aspect of the game. They even make the buildings much bigger to make it somewhat more realistic.

@11 thanks for the tip about frozen throne...i've never played WC3 as I am not at all a fan of RTS games, but if frozen throne is more diablo-esque then I'll have to consider giving it a whirl
