Phat Loot Phriday: Antonidas' Aegis of Rapt Concentration

Name: Antonidas' Aegis of Rapt Concentration
Type: Epic Shield
Armor/Block: 6336 / 174
Abilities:
- +28 Stamina, +20 Intellect
- Improves spell crit rating by 20, and increases spell damage and healing by up to 42
- Antonidas is (actually was, because he was killed by Arthas, as all great Warcraft characters were) the head of the Kirin Tor, that conclave of wizards that you're hearing so much about lately. His pupil was Jaina Proudmoore (and it was she who he expected to eventually take over the Kirin Tor). When Arthas killed Antonidas (to claim the Book of Medivh), the Violet Citadel and Dalaran were both left wide open, and Archimonde moved in to finish off the job and destroy the city.
- Now, of course, Dalaran is being rebuilt, and it's soon going to be flying over Northrend. Until then, Antonidas' shield has found its way back into the hands of players.
As a sidenote, apparently this was one of the drops on the world first kill of Archi as well. So not only can you get a shield that belonged to one of the greatest arch-mages the world of Azeroth has ever known, you can also get a shield that belonged to one of the best guilds in the game! Two for one!
Getting Rid of It: Sells for 9g 55s 99c. Disenchants into a Void Crystal. Breaks my elemental Shaman heart.

Ooh. It would also make a very nice Holy Pally Shield... Or hell, even a Prot Pally for extra threat :P

The Felstone Buckler off Supremus is the better holy pally shield. My paladin picked this up the other day though because it was an upgrade and our elemental shaman wasn't around.
I miss my jetpack already.

There's a spelling error on the Name...you put Aontonidas.
BenMS Aug 24th 2007 11:08PM
But.... Antonidas was a mage... why, oh why would he ever need a shield?

Thanks for the note on spelling, I fixed it. I wondered that too, BenMS. The closest I can think is that either he was an Archmage and Archmages can use shields, or that it's just an honorary title, because Antonidas is known for "defending" Dalaran (and thus has a shield named after him).
Of course, he didn't actually defend it (he was killed and the city was destroyed), so maybe the title isn't so honorary. But that's my guess.

lol, this one of the worst drops that you can get from Archi, like our first kills, this shield and the paladin pvp chest. Dont see how people can get enthusiastic over a dead drop...

@4 Antonidas was an ARCH-mage. Hero class. Different from your standard garden-variety mages. Apparently arch-magi can carry sheilds.

@myself. Remember to read ALL the comments before posting.

Sorry for OT, but I seriously do NOT think that Archmage even as Hero class will be able/is able to carry shields... what is the last game you have seen pure caster class using shield? lol

Maybe I'm just stating the obvious here...but just because YOU can't do it in the game does mean HE can't.
