Blizzard interviews Nihilum at Leipzig
In the last four days, we've reported on interviews with Lead Designer Jeff Kaplan at the European Game Conference going on currently in Leipzig, Germany. So far he has dropped many new bits of information about the Wrath of the Lich King and some new patch content coming before that. Turns out, Blizzard is reporting on its own activities at Leipzig on its official European page. In addition to the Wrath and Starcraft II demo stations, Blizzard hosted the demise of Illidan Stormrage. Uberguild Nihilum performed a Black Temple raid live at the Blizzard booth in front of 5,000 spectators. Afterwards, Blizzard gave away the keyboards signed by members of Nihilum to the crowd. Blizzard also interviewed the guild. You can read it here.
With the convention wrapping up today, we'll have to start looking elsewhere for more news on the upcoming expansion.

"Afterwards, Blizzard gave away the keyboards signed by members of Nihilum to the crowd" Oh yeeez. What's next? Rows of screaming fan girls for the superstars?
Dave Aug 26th 2007 4:34PM
I don't know about you guys, but I'm dressing as Awake for Halloween this year.
CVJ Aug 26th 2007 4:34PM
@1 and @2 my sentiments exactly...
Wait I am sure we will get some responses of "you guys are just jealous stfu, they EARNED the right to be praised for their video game greatness.
Now if they were signed by the WoW developers themselves that would be kind of cool since they made the game. Nihilum will eventually implode before the next expansion.
Unbeliever Aug 26th 2007 4:56PM
"Blizzard: What do you think will be the hardest part of the encounter?
Awake: Phase 2 will be the critical point. I just hope we will have enough Paladins online. "
I loathe this guy... i seriously do... It's the same reroller who says "non-holy paladins slows down progress" and claims that all paladins should be holy.
It's sad to see close-minded people like him being pushed into "stardom".
But hey, they're Nihilum so pardon me while i put my fire res tanking gear on and crank up the fire aura.
Gror Aug 26th 2007 5:24PM
Nihilum to me represemt everything that is bad about WoW. And the way Blizzard caters for the small group of people that get to see this high end raid content. They shouldnt turn these guys into celebs they should frown upon it. And they have broken Blizzards TOS with gold buying and it is ignored.
Anomis Aug 26th 2007 5:34PM
@Unbeliever
Have you killed Illidan? If so stfu please
Im pritty sure that every paladin that has made their char a paladin that isnt new to wow in the past year knows that if they want to raid they are almost forced into holy.. With protection not being very good for raiding and retribution's dps or lack of it...
TotalBiscuit Aug 26th 2007 6:47PM
@5 Non-holy paladins do slow down progress. You're a waste of space, seriously. Take a prot pally or two for Tidewalker surely but aside from that? Wasted raid spot. Wanna pretend to dps? Go do so in the kindergarten BGs and leave the raiding to the people that realize you pick the best tools to do your job if you want to succeed.
I loathe hybrid-whiners, I seriously hate their guts. As a mage I'm a dpser, and that's all I can do. I don't get the choice to tank, or heal, or anything else for that matter, I just throw fireballs and AOE, that's my role and I'm happy with it. But right now, we've got crying hybrid-kiddies like this poster claiming that people who don't take their PvP off-spec to raids are 'close-minded'?
Pardon me while I try to push this square-peg into a round hole and then whine when the rest of the guys using round-pegs get it done faster than I do.
Your off-spec is not welcome, play your class as it was intended. You're a paladin. Wanna raid? Do the only job you're good at in real raid content, healing, and leave the dps to the classes who were designed for it. Does that make me closed-minded? Maybe in this guys opinion. However if we try and throw a bit of common sense into the picture, no, just a sensible raider who knows that you don't waste spots that could be better used for classes and players that DO THEIR JOBS PROPERLY. Just as you don't take moonkin instead of mages, survival hunters instead of shadow-priests, you don't take paladins to dps. You really would have to be an idiot to if you're going to be a progress guild.
TB.

Hey Blizz, while you're at it, let's give everyone in Nihilum a special title while you are making them your celebrities.
If I was sponsored to play I'd probably be in Black Temple too.
Yojaria Aug 26th 2007 7:16PM
@ TotalBiscuit
Seriously, go to hell. Paladins were meant to be viable in all three roles. They weren't meant to be healbots standing at the back of raids. If you recall correctly, Blizzard even admitted a couple years back at Blizzcon that having Pallies being delegated to the healers didn't fit their vision.
Since I have a DPS tree, I should be able to DPS well. It's Blizzard's damn fault for not fixing prot and ret that we've been reduced to nothing more than cowardly healers.
RogueJedi86 Aug 26th 2007 7:47PM
If Paladins were meant to be back-of-the-raid healers, why were they given plate armor? Warriors wear Plate too, and they're up front. That's where Paladins belongs. Should be a big hint right there that we're supposed to be more than healers. Also, Hybrid=/=Healer. Just because you CAN heal, doesn't mean you HAVE to heal.
Also, Nihilum signing autographs? "Who's more foolish: the fool, or the fool who follows that fool?" I guess they wouldn't have signed them if people didn't want their autographs. Blame the people who wanted them. They probably just wanted new keyboards.
Pzychotix Aug 26th 2007 8:36PM
@10: Fine. But you'd have to be on crack to realize that your two trees are NOT anywhere as good choices. Until Blizz fixes them, back of the raid.
You guys are mixing up what Blizz "intends" paladins to be and what paladins really are. In min-max situations, off-spec paladins currently hold back the raid. Get over it. There's no buts about it.
Jogimux Aug 26th 2007 9:55PM
I'm a rogue in leather. I get 1 hit by anything and everything.
And you want to do as much damage as me in a raiding environment, Mr. Paladin? TotalBiscuit is right. You take maybe ONE ret paladin (constant wisdom on bosses helps for mana efficency across the caster) but any more is a wasted spot.
(Not counting paladin buffs, as we usually have 2-3 holy pallys anyway) a feral druid brings so much more to a raid than a ret paladin.
**+5% crit to everyone in their party.
**Every time someone in their party crits on a melee strike, they gain 2% of their total hp, on a 6 second cooldown.
**They can quickly pop into bear should an offtank be required (even in dps gear, a bear druid is a better tank than a ret paladin)
**A kitty druid never suffers from mana issues
**Kittys can sprint around the place, for fights which require running in and out (Prince anyone? A'lar?)
**Feral druids can pop out, hot themselves, and keep dpsing, WITHOUT OOMing.
**Druids can pop out and battle rez someone if needed
What can a ret paladin do? DPS until they go OOM.
Ret is useless. Deal with it. Yeah, it needs a buff, but its useless.
RogueJedi86 Aug 26th 2007 10:33PM
If Druids can do all 3 roles(Dps,Tank,Heal, 4 if you sub-divide into Spell DPS and Melee DPS) with proficiency, why not Paladins? Paladins in the Warcraft Universe before WoW were made to be DPS. Rogues aren't hybrids. Rogues are in leather, that's why they get Vanish and Sap and Kidney Shot, and various other things that give a Rogue plenty of time to heal up, or get away if need be. Plus Rogues are Crit Kings.
Tyrant Aug 26th 2007 11:07PM
@ TB
So, you think Moonkin are a waste of space then?
Try saying that to all the mages who hug round me saying 'I Luv ur aura :)', the MT constantly telling me, 'Keep Insect Swarm up! We need the the boss to hit me 2% less of the time!' and the fact I don't have to switch forms to use Innervate, so all the healers love me too. You get my point.
In relation to the topic, what they shud b doing now is giving Nihilum there own ultra hard raid dungeon to do, and THEN have them do it in front of hundereds of people ;)
Unbeliever Aug 27th 2007 2:15AM
@8 - You know, the fact that you're clueless about hybrids (like your hero Awake who you praise so much) doesn't mean you're right. But then again, you can't expect anything else from a mage who (just like holy paladins) plays the game by pressing 2 buttons.
There's very few "pure" classes left and it seems they're afraid of hybrids and with a good reason. While you're good at only one thing and one thing alone, (most) hybrids can do more than that, and do it well. But you did a good job "defending" Awake and i'm sure he'll do another interview with you on your lil radio ;)
PallySucks Aug 27th 2007 2:17AM
@8, you are just a water vendor and a pretty dumb one.
Paladins are the biggest flaw Blizzard has ever created.
Plate wearing healers, what fucking RPG game has a muscular plate armor wearing warrior that heals the whole raid.
Not only they wear plate, they carry shields and maces, for what? If they heal the best healing weapon in the game is a staff, wand, or off-hand item.
Obviously Paladins were never created for healing and Blizzard chose to healbot Pallys because other classes could do no better.
Gotta love all the idiots who think Paladins are only viable at healing because they were *created* for that purpose.
Its obviously flawed thinking.
Otacon Aug 27th 2007 4:23AM
@4 'Dave'.. :) I cant wait to see you costume!
daniel Aug 27th 2007 4:27AM
I want to have Awake's babies!
Theserene Aug 27th 2007 6:49AM
I just hope this expansion isn't coming out for quite a while. A lot of us are still progressing up through the BC content and we don't want it completely killed just because ONE guild is bored with it.
TBH, I wouldn't want something signed by a guild, signed by the developers yes, now THERE's a tough job.
