More WotLK info from Games for Windows
World of Raids has more info up from the Games for Windows spread about Wrath of the Lich King. Eliah posted the zone list yesterday, and while we've heard some of this stuff before, there are a few juicy new tidbits.- On the Sunwell, it seems the Burning Legion is using the Mana Forges in Netherstorm to power the Sunwell and summon Kil'Jaeden. The instance will have 6-8 bosses, and Kil'Jaeden will not be fully summoned when you fight him (which is supposed to explain how 25 level 70s can drop him).
- Dalaran will have one or two instanced dungeons in it (!), and will not have Auction Houses. It will have portals, including maybe one to Shattrath.
- There's some good Death Knight info, including a new AoE spell called Death and Decay. Blood runes will be damage oriented, Unholy runes will be utility and DoTs, and Frost runes will be CC-ish abilities.
- Finally, Inscription will give players the ability to sell scrolls (is it just me, or did the developers clearly say at BlizzCon that inscribers wouldn't sell scrolls?), and they will only be able to update "core spells"-- Priest's Mind Control no, Hunter Freeze Traps yes. Get ready for a round of QQing about what "core spells" are.
Update: Changed Mind Control back to Mind Vision. And apparently it was just me who thought devs said no scrolls at BlizzCon.
Thanks, Meth!

Interesting.
The Sunwell story looks like it can be either cool or lame.
Dalaran not having an AH will have a bunch of QQ posts, but I agree that is shouldn't. Portals of course are just so it's easy to get to and fro.
The amount of Death Knight QQ will go up as current classes become useless. This is my main issue with "Hero Classes" as they are not conceived. What class will they ultimately replace and how is Blizzard going to counter that.
I knew Inscription would need a sellable item. Scrolls were the perfect fit. Core spells of course could basically mean anything that doesn't require a talent or heavy investment of talents to make use of. Then again "Core Spell" can mean anything right now.

Need an edit post feature. lol
previous should say "now conceived"

NOOOOOO
I wanted to make a deathknight soo much but now that rune system is so primitive and simple
dps ,utility/dots and cc?
Anyone else thinks its going to be spec pvp or pve?
That restrictive logic fails so much, look at popular classes like locks, mages or hunters, they got all styles viables via every talent spec...

"(is it just me, or did the developers clearly say at BlizzCon that inscribers wouldn't sell scrolls?)"
It's just you. It was said at BlizzCon they did intend to allow the creation and selling of inscription scrolls through the AH. I believe it was during the professions panel.

"Dalaran will have one or two instanced dungeons in it"
Ah! So the dungeons beneath Dalaran will be put to use! The dungeons down there held all kind of monsters and criminals and such (Kael'thas and his elves at one point) and it looks like they tore it out of the ground and brought it with them. Will be nice to have an instance in a city again.

Death and Decay was one of my favorite abilities from WCII days... loved it.

"a new AoE spell called Death and Decay"
Damn it. I've been pushing for locks to get this ever since I first saw it.

@4 Remember, you apply runes anytime out of combat... and they can be combined in any manner... so you can not apply any CC runes if you don't think you'll need them, etc etc.
The DK directly contradicts the other point they made during the class panel - to keep classes distinct so that each has a real place. So, um.... doesn't the DK compete with a rogue, warrior and pally? While we don't know that much about them, having a plate wearing DPS class with casting spells seems to do that. If I'm a rogue (and I am) I have to wonder why groups would take me if they can get, say, 90% of my dps from a plate class. Or why take a warrior if you have a tank who can pump out the dps?
ADding more hero classes will exacerbate this issue and, from their responses, it seems like they haven't really resolved this contradiction. It will be interesting to see what they do.

Their talent trees are the same as those of their runes and skill
Thy got a blood, unholy and frost talents, thats what i meant with my post.
IFBlood runes are for dps theres a good chance that for pve DK will have to spec blood to DPS right, and frost for CC?
I be that for pvp CC will be better thus Frost for CC.
Voila, you got a class you cant really enjoy unles you make 2 and max level them.
Rogues, warriors, shamans, paladins got that Spec provlem pvp vs pve thats why i hate em,Druids, hunters, locks, priests and mages dont and i really hoped the DK wouldnt.

Core spells, my ass. WTB 50% more MC range! pst...
I do wonder how it'll all go. I bet binary spells get boned but then what regular spells that can be talented up? Fire ball with the on-crit dot?
It would be cool if they specifically avoided basic +dps inscriptions (be it lowers resists, target takes 1% more damage and stacks to 5, decreased cast time, etc.). Mind Flay with knockback? DOTS WITH KNOCKBACK! Or maybe that stupid, annoying launch move that simply knocks you into the air a couple yards.... Oh, the QQing would never cease (and rightfully so).
Mind Blast, chance on hit: Aura of Undeath. Target's aura heals party members in range for 5% of the damage melee they do.
Ah.. I can dream....

WOO! Death and Decay! Just like #7, I've been wanting that spell for Warlocks for so long. Glad it's been implimented SOMEHOW.
As for the "ZOMG OLD CLASSES WILL BECOME OBSOLETE!111" sentiment... Well that's why they're taking it slow and seemingly one class at a time. They don't want any classes to step on anyone's toes but still offer a unique alternative to what you can bring in a party. Sure there will be lots of tweaking, buffing, and nerfing regarding the new classes but at least they'll come to a happy medium some day.

Actually I remember them saying something like "Inscription will not be scrolls" when they announced it at Blizzcon. So you're not remembering wrong, I heard it too. But maybe they didn't mean what we thought they meant or something.
Chris Anthony Aug 28th 2007 12:03PM
@13: They may simply have meant that Inscribers won't be making Scrolls of Agility IV or whatever. I recall that at Blizzcon, Inscribers were described as being able to craft items that could Inscribe others' skills and that could be sold on the Auction House; that's probably what they mean by "scrolls".

I predict there will be another event of "OP Druids" at the start of the expansion. The core skills of druids include bearform and catform (among wrath, moonfire and heals). Though I would be happy if thoes two forms did gain benefits, I don't want to be nerfed again. It still stings that my ferocious bite non crits is still lower than my mangle crit.
I wonder if there's a limit to the amount of inscription "equipped" however.
