What class can't you play?

For me, it's rogues, hands down. I have alts of pretty much every other class, some more advanced than others, but no matter what I do, if I try and get a rogue above level six it's usually a disaster. Everyone tells me that rogues are the easiest class to play, but I'm not seeing it. How is managing stealth, figuring out how to get behind pathing targets to unleash attacks, and managing combo points easy? I even tried to play one of the level 70 uberrogues from the PTR, but that didn't go any better because (big surprise) I didn't have any idea what I was doing.
I just don't get rogues. I don't get that when they talk about specs they're usually talking about what weapons to use instead of what talents they've picked half the time. I don't get that they're expected to do the most melee damage, that flies in the face of my gamer geek experience from years of tabletop play. I don't get how to use stealth propery, I don't understand how to stunlock. I'm just a hopeless case as a rogue. It doesn't help that Tauren, my second favorite race and my favorite horde side, can't be rogues.
I'd personally and with great glee batter my head against the class if I could be a stealthy manbull. And don't tell me to roll a druid, I have one of those, it's just not the same. I have rolled Night Elf, Blood Elf, Human, Orc, Troll, Undead, and Gnome rogues. It always ends the same, with a dead rogue in some zone that I never go back to again. I think I left my highest level rogue dead in the Shimmering Flats.
Come to think of it, my favorite alliance race and indeed my favorite race, can't play rogues either. No stealthy Draenei for me. As far as I'm concerned rogues are the hardest class to play. I'd play a Mage, a Warlock, anything else and do a lot better than I will on a rogue. It takes a skill set I don't seem to possess.
Any class just totally elude you? Either because of personal preference, playstyle, or a frank and baffling inability?

i find paladins a bit... impenetrable.
Zithe Aug 27th 2007 10:16PM
Nope, I have classes that I don't enjoy playing but none that I can't play at all. You're just weird.
Mike Aug 27th 2007 10:21PM
Hmmm...
I can't play shadow priests (healing priests I do okay with, but the snare on Mind Flay makes me want to just play a frost mage and be done with it), rogues, or warriors.
Kadamon Aug 27th 2007 10:20PM
I'm the same as number one. Right now I play a Mage and I've got a Druid at the same level...and I'm a cat druid so...
I just can't play as a Paladin and I don't know why. I mean, Priests are fine...Warriors are fine, but a Paladin?
It's just so...so...boring.

Offensive casters are my classes of choice.. warriors and rogues I've given up on. Even pallies, shamans, and hunters are a bit irritating for me to play.
Gill Aug 27th 2007 10:39PM
I've tried every class and love them... except for Shamans. I don't know what it is about them, but the low levels with a shaman just isn't fun when I play 'em.
I'll give it another shot though once I'm done with this druid I'm levelling up.

Any melee class...
I have two choices?
a. stand 40+ feet back and kill things before they get close
b. Run at something and let it hit me as hard as it can as I atempt to hit it harder and more often?
A wins hands down every time.

I can't get into druids and warriors. When I play my druid, I keep thinking "I could be playing my shaman right now" or "I could be playing my rogue right now". I've only gotten my druid up to lvl. 19. About a week ago, I logged on him and got him about one bar closer to lvl. 20 before I gave up.
Warriors are just boring as hell to me. I've only gotten mine up to 18 or so, but it's just not any fun. I don't like the Rage mechanic, and I don't like how it's basically just Charge, hit with sword, loot. I know this is a huge oversimplification, but that's just how it feels to me. Kinda odd, since I play a 70 Elemental shaman most of the time, where I basically just drop totems and hit my lightning bolt button until my target is dead.
I actually started a paladin because I wanted to make a tank, and couldn't stand warriors and druids. It was pretty boring in the beginning, but I've stuck with it, and now it's getting interesting. I'm levelling her as Prot, and she's almost to 29. I'm pretty sure I'm going to try to do some dungeons with her soon, which is something I haven't done with 7 other alts since my first character (shaman).

I found locks and pallies boring, but I don't know that I'd say I can't play them...I just don't have much fun doing it.
My favorite class in Diablo II were Assassins and big shocker, my favorite in WoW are Rogues. Followed by Priests.

I've played all classes past 40 now and I have to say that the worst is hands down the paladin. It's fine for the first 15 levels then it gets really, really slow.
Hunters and Warlocks are definitely the easiest to level (love those pets) and of these the warlock is probably my favourite. If you can get an open space or 5/5 Fel Concentration you can easily take 3-4 mobs at a time; even my hunter had difficulty doing that.
After paladins (did I mention they were slow) I would pick shamans as a disliked class purely because I've played pure casters and melee characters. The combination class just didn't feel right to me.

I've leveled one of every class to at least 22, just out of curiosity. Some things I've discovered:
Rogues: Require a weapon switcher macro bound to a quick-reach key so you can equip two daggers in stealth, Ambush/Backstab/or whatever requires daggers, then switch to sword/dagger sword/sword or whatever fits your Combat spec.
Pally: It's all about Seal/Judgement juggling. Start with Seal of the Crusader and immediately judge with it so it increases Holy damage taken by mob/player. Immediately put up Seal of Righteousness to give your weapon hits additional holy damage which the mob now takes more of b/c of Judgement of Crusader. When your Judgement cd is up, Judge with Seal of Righteousness which is like a holy nuke, buffed by JoC still on the mob. They're usually dead by then. Repeat as necessary. Probably gets more complex at higher levels, I've only taken my pally to 22.
Warrior: Need a stance-switcher macro that switches both stance and weapon/shield. Berserker+2hander, Defensive+1hander and shield, etc.
Druid: Same as warrior, need stance switcher macro that equips melee weapons when in bear/cast form and caster staves, etc when in caster form.
The only class I'm not sure I've figured out is Shamman, which I've leveled to 22 also, but which was the only one I didn't enjoy and felt I was maybe doing something wrong or misunderstanding some crucial aspect of it...

I can't seem to play as a hunter. I've gotten every class up to level 20 (at least), but hunter is the most frustrating for me. I hate the pet thing.
Terrant Aug 27th 2007 11:14PM
I've tried to level Priests, Warriors, Shamans, Hunters, and Mages. I couldn't get the Mage to double digit levels. I'm newer to the game, so that's my defense. :)
BenMS Aug 27th 2007 11:16PM
Yeah, it's Hunters for me as well. Cool, a pet? Well, my Warlock has one that doesn't need feeding, and doesn't ever get unhappy. Smacking things down from long range? My Mage will always be able to do that better. And everyone knows Hunters shouldn't melee. That's a Rogues job. It's a case of, anything a Hunter can do, there's a bunch of classes that can do it better.
Krick Aug 28th 2007 12:42AM
Your first mistake with leveling a rogue is trying to use backstab. Forget about backstab, spec combat swords, and never look back.
Perrins Aug 27th 2007 11:21PM
paladins...too much thinking. ugh i cant play them i really dont like playng a paladin. ive had one for ayear and a half and its reached the mighty lvl 8.
Deus Mortus Aug 27th 2007 11:26PM
Healing, I have a 70 of each class, but as soon as I need to heal, I have the need to bash my head against my keyboard untill I bleed.
I don't want to do it, I suck at doing it and people hate me for that (though with BC that has gotten lesser, as a druid/shammy/priest you are no longer expected to heal).
fbp Aug 27th 2007 11:27PM
I can never level a hunter up far enough to get a pet.
My main is a rogue.
Seamus Aug 27th 2007 11:26PM
Great article, glad you were so honest.
Got my warrior to 37 before I got bored with him. I don't see the point of Berserker stance, why'd they even give it to us?
And I totally agree with you on rogues. Mine's dead in the Barrens at lvl 16. I just kept dying. Maybe it's because I was used to healing myself as a priest, but I could never figure out how to keep myself alive when I started taking damage.
Varatil Aug 27th 2007 11:29PM
As an alt-itis victim it's kind of a mixed bag. I've always wanted to play a shaman up, but somewhere about 11 or 12 my only shaman (besides the mandatory Draenei shaman since I didn't make a Be pally >.>) I got so bored. Maybe it's just my hatred of the Barrens.
Anyway Shaman and Rogues are my two bigguns. Rogues happens to be the only class I've never gotten a glimpse at the ingame talent tree of. Followed closely by warriors. Seems the dual-wielders are my problem, so why is my favorite class the hunter?
