Letting things fall through the cracks
The World of Warcraft is a big place. We've got tons of stuff going on, from Highbourne elven ghosts run amok, to crazy furbolgs, to leperous gnomes, all the way to the Burning Legion, the Scourge, and the clash of Titans and the Old Gods themselves. Things are happening all around us, all the time.So it's not surprising that a few things can slip through the cracks. Last night, I was rolling through Nagrand with my rogue when I got a quest to kill an Ethereal near Oshu'gun. While I was wandering around near the mountain, I saw an opening inside, and decided to see what was in there. And inside, I found something very surprising: Kil'sorrow agents holding a Naaru captive. According to the lore, the mountain itself is actually a ship, and the Naaru inside, K'ure, was weakened in the ship's crash and trapped there for centuries. The trapped Naaru in Silvermoon City (who funnels power to Blood Elf Paladins everywhere) gets all the press, but K'ure and his predicament have gone virtually unnoticed by both players and NPCs.
Likewise, did anyone notice that the Arrakoa are actually attempting to summon an Old God to Shadowmoon Valley? In the southern part of the zone, among the green pools, you can see the bird men focusing their energies on something that looks exactly like C'thun. Considering all the trouble the Old Gods had caused, you'd think that would get a lot more attention than it does (unless it's just that no one really believes the Arrakoa could really do it-- they haven't pulled it off so far).
Is there anything else that's fallen through the cracks of everything happening in the world? I'd think we'd be concerned that the Burning Legion is using a trapped Naaru or that the Arrakoa are trying to raise one of the most powerful beings in the Universe, but with everything else going on, I guess it doesn't raise much of an alarm.

Perhaps if you did all the quests you wouldn't miss things like the above cited examples...
Although the first quest you mentioned (in Nagrand) is part of the Horde chain for Thrall's return to Outland.
cprokop Aug 28th 2007 10:54AM
There are extensive quest lines pertaining to both. The Oshu'gun one is Horde only.
Lykaon Aug 28th 2007 10:54AM
Yep. Both examples are addressed by quests, but also both are totally cool little stories.
I'm not sure if the trapped naaru is part of any alliance quest chain or not, but I've had to track in there with both of my level 70 horde characters.

Not sure if the Naaru in Nagrand is part of an alliance quest, but it's strongly related to the Draenei since it's part of the story in Rise of the Horde novel.

No one could possibly do all the quests in WoW, so I imagine everyone's missed something or another at one time. God knows I've missed tons of stuff, mostly because I'm impatient and ditch/skip all gray quests.

i was dissappointed that i had 0 quests inside of oshugun for alliance...
and i think such neutral places although having more significance to one faction than to the other shouldn't go with quests for both.
Hyrican Aug 28th 2007 11:14AM
ähm i meant without quests for both

haha, that titans tag up above, links to a page saying there are no titans tags, just fyi.

Yep, I've done both those questlines.
Personally I rate quite highly on the 'explorer' end of the MMO player spectrum so every time there's a new area released I just have to wring every last drop of content from it :) The concept of levelling up in instances as some of my guildies did is just horrifying to me. Ok so you might be able to go through the quests again for money but that's such a mercenary experience.
Junzim has tackled the infinite complexities of the Samophlange, fought his way along the perilous water-wheel structure in Stonetalon to put a stop to a manic goblin engineer and pretty much finished every quest available to him (if my old main hadn't already done them).
There's alot of content and entertaining story out there - personally I love quests that have a good story and honestly don't care if their loot is horrible.
That heartbreaking moment when Horax found Ebenezer Rustlocke's lifeless body in the Thandol Span and then found Sully Baloo's sodden corpse at the bottom of the Thandol river.
Delivering his last letter to Sully's widow and then petitioning the King for recognition of the humble dwarf's sacrifice (leading to a very moving quest chain). Those are beautifully written moments of pure pathos that Blizzard manages to carry out very well indeed.
The point being - there's so much great content out there if you're willing to look for it or play the game without trying to be as efficient as possible about your leveling. Heck there might not have been any Alliance quests for Oshugun but I wouldn't have traded those Thandol Span quests for anything.
A bit off-topic but I think there would be far more Alliance pride if people actually bloody read their quests and cared about the story on the Alliance side. I'm Thrall's loyal servant now and forever but there's a part of me that still enjoyed sitting Horax down in the Thalsamar Inn or the North Tavern in Iron Forge with his fellow dwarfs.

The Naaru in Nagrand is part of a Horde quest line there.
The "old god" in Shadowmoon Valley is part of an Alliance quest line. This one is kind of a let down because you don't even fight it, just banish it (the whole series is solo quests actually). When I first saw it I was all excited to eventually get to fight it...

You'd think the Kurenai of Nagrand would send adventurers into Oshu'Gun, being that it's the starship they crashed into Draenor on, and the fact that there's a Naaru inside(we know the Draenei have an unhealthy worship/obsession of the Naaru).

This is part of the Great Mother quest line:

It's very easy to miss since it will only become available once you have done all the quests in Nagrand (the full list is available on wowwiki I believe).
It's a great quest line that gives you a lot of insight on the Nagrand history and Thrall's past. Highly recommended.

Hollywood Ron - O RLY? Not that hard to actually do at all, many people do do most of the solo quests anyhow, and in TBC you'd be a fool not to once you hit 70, you earn a shitload of gold (you do want your epic mount right?)
KaonNemesis - Horde do that quest too...
InsaneAssault Aug 28th 2007 12:55PM
Back to the original topic on hand, I would really like to see something done about Varian Wrynn. Perhaps he can finally get rescued and come back to Stormwind?
Addie Aug 28th 2007 1:15PM
@ Junzim... I think I love you. *nods*

Why do the ghosts of Forsaken players look like Undead still? Shouldn't they look human? They were once people too, their souls/ghosts would be human. Questions like that make me want to know more about the biology of the Forsaken.
Andrew Aug 28th 2007 6:25PM
Actually, regarding the Arokka and summoning an old god, you do some quest lines to stop them from doing that back in Terrokar Forest. I remember right after the quest to kill the giant bird in Shatt, the NPCs told me about their plot to try and summon one of the Old Gods.

Actually, you don't have to finish every quest in Nagrand for it to open, that's just a myth.
You need the Ogre chain (the blademaster), the Demon hunter Altrius chain, the Murkblood Invaders quests along with the escort from sunspring village.
you don't have to do the Ethereal quests, Nesingwary quests, the Earthen Ring quests from Garadar, the Circle of Blood quests, or the wanted poster quests.
