Trick taming in Shadowmoon Village
Pretty funny-- Mania's Arcania issued a challenge to Alliance Hunters a few days ago to do something that might be impossible: tame the Shadowmoon Village stablemaster's pet wolf, Detrafila. The wolf is level 60, and according to Beast Lore, is actually tameable. But he's also surrounded by level 70 Horde, of course, so taming is not easy. Plus, some "pets" of NPCs are actually summoned pets, and therefore not tameable. But two Hunters were able to pull it off. Dezar on Black Dragonflight and Gettokiwi on Stormreaver were both able to kite the stablemaster away from Shadowmoon Village, take him out, and then tame the wolf after he'd dropped. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, the wolf doesn't have a special, identifiable look, and he doesn't actually come with any abilities, so there's not much reason to do it except for the experience.
But it would be exceedingly cool for Blizzard to "hide" special tameable pets like this for expert Hunters to go after. I know there are a few other "special" tames around-- Spot in Menethil Harbor is one, as is Stanley, the dog the Horde poisons in Hillsbrad. But it would be cool to see a few more secret, more select tames for Hunters in Northrend. What d'ya say, Blizz?

Can we go to Bloodhoof and get Alex the dog from Ezra's quest? hehe....

The dog at Bloodhoof Village is named Kyle. Neither it, nor Ahab Wheathoof, are attackable for Alliance. Don't want that poor Make-A-Wish Kid to have his in-game NPC/quest to be camped all day by Alliance.

How about Misha? Anyone tried that?

I like the idea of having more unique pets. Unique ablities given by design from difficulty to tame and/or find. (i.e.spawns for 5 mins on the 2nd tuesday of every month) My 50 hunter tamed the albino bat in trisfal which I named SHAKAKA! credit given to Ace Ventura.

WoW got a little lamer for hunters on the day(s) they normalized pets. Sure, Broken Tooth, once tamed, was a 5000lb tank of furry fury, but she was a real chore to tame. Pets like the one in the OP should be similarly specialized or overpowered in such a manner as to offset the difficulty in taming them.

RogueJedi86: ahh... well I don't want to kill the poor kid's toon, just get the dog. Especially if he acted all spastic like he does running around Bloodhoof. And the dance too.

@4.
I assume that Misha is untamable because he is a lv. 72. (You can't tame beasts that are higher than your level, if you're wondering.)

Spot lives in Theramore, not in Menethil!
Aside from that; I think that solo taming the 'rank 8 bite' worg in LBRS is a rite of passage that every lvl 60 hunter should undertake. It also was the only pet that could change color, but I think that got removed a couple of patches ago :(

From the Petopia jump... "This dog is friendly to the Alliance, and therefore can only be tamed by the Horde"
One more nail in the "Blizz loves Horde" coffin! :0P

I also did that 'Quest' on my hunter and it was seriously a lot of fun. If anyone here is leveling a hunter and nearing 60 seriously try it out!

I tamed Gutripper the level 66(?) elite Owl in Nagrand with help from my Druid friend on my hunter.
It was really hard. He was immune to crowd control so I had to keep channiling tame pet on him whilst being hit for 600 again and again because of my awful gear. My druid friend had to keep healing me *without* pulling aggro otherwise the taming would fail. Due to she was Moonkin she didn't have the reduced healing aggro talents.
We succefully complete our mission. Unfortunatly Mr Gutripper was released a week after because I needed a pet slot and the fact it wasn't any better than the owl I had anyway.
One day we are going to try and tame the elite Cat in the cave by Skettis (my friend tells me it's there). I cannot wait ^_^
I might try and tame that wolf too, looks fun.
