The most powerful character in Azeroth
Killah sent us a interesting question: who is the most powerful character in all of Azeroth? We've talked about this one before, but it's been a while, and considering that we've learned a lot since last December about Azeroth and what's happening in it, I'd say it's worth another look.So who's on top? Last time around, we said Sargeras or Elune, but let's refine things a bit-- those two may both be very powerful, but Sargeras is currently "ceased to be," and Elune, who supposedly created the world, doesn't actually use that power much, does she? If she was so peaceful and in charge, why's the world called Warcraft?
Still, looking down the list, Elune does seem to top it-- if you're talking about potential power, she's it. Aman'thul and the Pantheon are up there-- they toppled Sargeras and have even killed the Old Gods. But the most powerful character that we know for certain is actually in Azeroth right now? Besides the winner of the our One Boss Leaves tournament, I'm not sure. Nozdormu? The Lich King?
Unless by "most powerful character," Killah actually means player character. In that case, I have no idea. Awake? One of the guys from Team Pandemic?

Arthas. Controlling an army of the undead, who never tire, complain, and if they die there are plenty more where that came from, is quiet possible the greatest power to have. Also, Anyone they kill become one of them.

Pfft. There's no evidence that Elune even exists. All we know of her comes from books and legends. And she may not even be exactly what the Night Elves says she is; they've been wrong before.
One-on-one, the most powerful beings in Azeroth are Old Gods. It took the entire Titan Pantheon to defeat and imprison FIVE of them (or is that four). It's true, we got 40 lvl. 60 characters to kill one of them, but C'thun was imprisoned and weakened. Let one free, give it a little time to recuperate, and it'll be nigh-unstoppable.
Sargeras was probably #2...there may have been more powerful Titans at one time, but his embrace of the "dark side" and his drive to destroy all life made him even more powerful. However, his "death" seems to throw a wrench in that theory. He's obviously not gone for good, but how much has his power diminished?
Next, I'd say Kil'jaeden. He's probably as powerful, or more powerful, than Archimonde was, but he's also way smarter. He's not going to be tricked into charging blindly into an exploding Macguffin.
But I don't know if the 5 dragon aspects are even more powerful than Kil'jaeden. Probably are. I think Alexstrasza is probably the strongest, which makes sense, since she's the Dragonqueen.

This article has a bunch of errors that shouldn't have made it through.
1. Elune did not create the world. It's unknown who did (though the Old Gods are a good bet), but we know that Azeroth is in it's current form because of the Titans.
2. The Pantheon never toppled Sargeras. In fact, we have absolutely NO indication that they ever came into direct conflict, since all we heard about Sargeras' corruption is that it occurred while he was fighting demon races. If they had toppled him, he would not have been able to keep leading the Legion.

Alexstrasza is according to http://www.wowwiki.com/Alexstraza (near the bottom). Not sure if I agree with it but it is definite competition between Dragon Aspects, Sargeras and Old Gods.
On a non godly scale I would say Arthas, but probably Queen Azshara as she 'has a power inside of her that only Sargeras and Archimonde could've matched' (from War of the Ancients)

I'd have to say Cenarius. He's a demigod, he's still around and he was able to toss Illidan in the ground.
Yeah, technically he's "dead" but allegedly he's just resting until he can regain his health and come back and purge the land of all the evil stuff he's not thrilled with.

Well Elune isn't on Azeroth for one, she's on the moon if anywhere. Or, prehaps gods and goddesses in WarCraft have their own plane of existance. In any case, she isn't on Azeroth.
I believe Metzen said the Lich King is currently the most powerful being ON Azeroth.

Where do the Naaru rank in all this? They are the power behind "The Light" of countless paladins...

It's clearly Arthas.

Arthas? Next to an aspect? You gotta be kidding me. He's 1:50 the size and 1:50000 the age of an aspect.

Of the "Dormant" powers, those that aren't an active menace, Sargeras is #1, Old Gods #2, Medivh #3. Medivh was apparently so powerful by the end of WC3 that he became an eternal along the lines of the titans.
Of the current Azerothian threats, I'd say Kil'Jaeden and Arthas are about evenly matched. The reason Kil'jaeden recruited Illidan and Kael'Thas in the first place is that his creation had gotten too powerful and could be counted as a threat. Following them, I'd say Alexstraza and Deathwing in an equally even match. Age doesn't really count for much when power can be stored and acquired in such extreme means.

Deathwing, strongest of the aspects

Technically, the arguement against Elune is one that has come up in modern debates. The easiest way to say it is "How can any all-powerful and all-loving [in this case, we must assume for now] being allow things like this to happen?"
The answer is pretty easy, actually. If this being values the mortal races (even the Nelfs who are supposed to be mortal, and now are), then it follows that the being respects free will, which all sentient races must have. Therefore, the arguement that Elune doesn't seem to do a whole lot is actually a powerful statement about the diety that it respects the mortal races to choose their own fate.

The nitpicky, zombie fanboy inside of me would like to tell you that the line,
"Every Dead Body Not Exterminated. Gets up and Kills. The People it Kills Get up And Kill."
Actually comes from the original Dawn of the Dead film, by George A. Romero.

My vote for most powerful goes to Tigole.

For the beings ON Azeroth Arthas, hes two powerful beings fused together. The old gods would be more powerful but there trapped and not really present because if they were it would be game over.

I vote for Kungen (of Nihilum) - I mean there isn't much in Aziroth he hasn't personally tanked to the floor ;)
