Forum Post of the Day: Mega Super Giga Mana potions
Bregdark is worried about Blizzard-- first we had Health and Mana potions, but those weren't enough. Then we had Superior Mana potions, Major mana potions, and now in Outland, we're chugging Super Mana potions. But where can Blizzard go from here? There are quite a few good suggestions in the thread: Mega Mana potions, Super Duper potions, Totally Rad Mana potions, and the fan favorite "Sexy Time Mana potions." Of course, there's always got to be someone raining on the party, so Barnes (wait a minute) pipes up with a ton of words Blizzard could actually use, and then some:
"Ultra, Hyper, Mega, Ultimate (probably ill-advised to use this one), Magnificent, Marvelous, Superb, Grand, Prime, Splendid, Sublime, Exquisite, Great, Perfect (also not recommended), Supreme, Terrific, Transcendent, Copious, Prodigious, Primal (re-use). That's excluding fantasy intensifiers or superlatives such as "Fel", "Nether", "Draenic", etc."
So yes, no need to worry-- Blizzard's got lots of options to choose from. But am I the only one that feels just a little taken aback at the thought that we're going to get yet another expansion that has nothing but bigger widgets. Yes, of course, the point of every RPG, MMO or otherwise, is to go out there and get more health and a bigger sword, but playing the same game with a fresh coat of new paint will get old after a while, won't it?

"playing the same game with a fresh coat of new paint will get old after a while, won't it?"
Welcome to doing stuff.

Suggestion: rename "Minor Mana Potion" to "Mana Potion Classic".

Ah, I see Barnes is familiar with a Thesaurus.

Grandmaster comes after Master for professions. That's who we learn from post 300 anyway. The question is, who will teach us the Grandmaster level?

And then add a "New Mana Potion"...

I'm more worried about the names for the fundamental items, like Elemental Air, Essence of Air, Primal Air, etc.

I can honestly say that BC will be my last. The reason for new expansion seems to be for those hardcore guilds that completed all the content to keep them interested and not for the masses that struggled to get through Huhuran in AQ40 and was excited about finally being equipped well enough for Naxx... then the doors shut and BC came out, putting us back on the path to level again and quickly replacing all those hard earned epic gears with the first drops in TBC. Never really had the chance to enjoy that Wrath chest from Nefarian that finally dropped the week before TBC after 2 months worth of farming BWL /sigh...
So rather than adding new content in the same release for the end game raiding guilds, they forced those that were on the long march to finally getting to Naxx to putting aside their raiding ambitions for the next month to month and a half to level and gear their mains for another foray into karazhan and beyond. I felt like a vagabond in the desert finally finding my way to the oasis only to find that the oasis of water was just a mirage and I should get trekking again towards the next one I see in the horizon. I've obliged this time, but I can tell you that I'd rather move on to another endeavor. Perhaps Warhammer and hope that they don't cater to just the leading tip of minority extreme gamers who race through content to be the first.

World of Warcraft has fully proven to me that they're never going to change the basic idea of how to play in any fundamentally changing way.
They really had a good shot at changing it with the Hero Classes, to make a "same old thing" style play go away by having hero classes abandon levels and experience and instead turn them into something else where you just accumulate talent points in a different way and advance through gear or something that's NOT the level grind. Instead we get a "hero" that's basically just another hybrid class with a slightly different way of using their abilities. Oh well.
After all, if it's still getting new subs why would they change it right? I don't see the game changing the direction it's going at ALL until the subs dwindle down to the sub-6million mark at some point, assuming any game is powerful enough in the future to really challenge WoW for subscribers.

I would personally prefer OMGLOLOLOLOLOLOL Mana Potions.

Said it before, say it again; If all we do is go the EQ model of "expansion, expansion, expansion" WoW will doom itself.... not knocking blizzard, BC was a big success, but those at the high end chase the new content.... heck, I'd be happier with new mid level content that would entice me to play some Alts and take a break from the end game stuff!

@3, @6-I'm partial to Cherry Mana Potion Classic, myself. Though I never turn my nose up at a cool, crisp, Vanilla Mana Potion.

Blizzard should just change the name from mana to viagra.
Imagine super viagra potion or superior viagra potion.
I can see the in game ad now.
"The blue potion that keeps your bar up."
I am sure Blizzard can make some more side money through endorsements.
Todd Aug 31st 2007 4:05PM
Couldn't Blizzard just make mana/health potions that scale with level? This would eliminate the need for a next level of potion, as the potion would be the same for everyone at that level.
Todd Aug 31st 2007 4:05PM
@Chewy
Nice idea, but sadly, Viagra is copyrighted.

He's right, Ultimate Mana Potion is ill-advised, which is why Penultimate Mana Potion is where it's at the tooltip will read, "Restores a penultimate amount of mana".
There can't be more than one more expansion after this can there?
