Hail and well met, Supaghank!
I don't play on an RP server, although I have a few toons on one. Still, even though I'm fairly indifferent to RPing in WoW (mainly because I think most of my characters are sarcastic jerks, kind of like myself) I am sometimes thrown by the names I see people giving their characters. Especially when, as an example (and names are being changed to protect folks who don't need to see their characters being mentioned on this blog) I see a level 70 holy pally looking for a Kara guild in Trade, and his name? Lordodeath, let's say.Lordodeath, the holy pally.
Lordodeath is going to come heal the Kara raid, guys! Don't you feel confident now that Lordodeath is standing between you and the grave?
Now, I understand that when you're creating that character you might not be thinking 69 levels down the road. That's cool, but still, you are aware you're making a character in a fantasy MMO, so why would you name your character something that sounds dumb? It's going to be funny for what, five levels max. Then you're going to have to read the same six or seven whispers over and over and over and over again about how you named your druid Dadanktanka or your rogue Notblush. Also, was Pwninthepuss really the best you could do?
It also brings to mind what kind of person names their children things like Sthabby, but Azeroth is a strange and scary place, so I suppose that we cannot judge them too harshly.
Then again, I did name one of my characters something that sounds like a lisp, so what do I know?
What's the worst name you've ever given a character?

My worst name will probably be 'Rhook', for a, you guessed it, Female Gnome Rogue.

While I kinda understand people that name their character after famous fantasy lore or how much they're going to pwn me, the worst is when their name is a combination of their class and race. /scary

If I had a penny for every Tauren I've seen with some sort of cow reference in their name, I'd have my subscription fee covered.

If I had a penny for every warlock I've seen with some sort of dot/fear/fel reference in their name, I'd have my subscription fee covered.

I hate when people are naming their chars like Wtfpwn, Ipwnunub etc. Some people like to name their chars and alts like Goochyheal, Goochylock, Warrogoochy etc.
I usually press Randomize few times, when I found something I like I change few things so I know there aren't people on other realms with the same name and so far, I was successful:)

If I had a penny for every Rogue I've seen with some sort of stealth/gank/kill/stab reference in their name, I'd have my subscription fee covered. For a few years.
Stabbyganku, ucantseeme, imgankingu, etc.
SAY NO.

Those names are just sooooooo clever and/or funny. >.<
Yes, stupid names irk me to no end. But I have come to accept people like that and just avoid them.
Falik Sep 3rd 2007 10:04PM
My main's name is Falik.

Hellbena Sep 3rd 2007 10:16AM

Panagiotis Sep 3rd 2007 10:18AM

It was the first thing that popped into my head when the character creation screen came up.

I named one of my characters Drmcninja, in honor of a great web comic. But once I got to running instances, things didn't go over well.
"You are going to ninja stuff from me, you're a joke character"
"You obviously rolled need on that item for no reason... reporting you ninja"
I once had an argument over the name, and the person refused to believe the reason about my name, even after I showed her the link.
Fuzzfuzz Sep 3rd 2007 10:34AM
I usually do my names in pairs. For example Fuzzfuzz and Nummnumm. But one of the ones I get more comments on are Whorhay and Heyzues (warrior and priest respectively).

I for one play on a RP-PvP server, and therefore I really dislike immersion breaking names.
A character should be named as anything that fits into the world it lives in. Naming it something like Legholass, Gymly, Aragonn etc is really lame imo. That goes for names consisting of "pwn, imba, lol" and stuff like that too.
Worst case I've ever seen though, is the NE hunter called Xxhunterxx with his spider called Xxspiderxx :)

The stupid names are maybe the thing in this game that makes me the most crazy. Possibly because it's something you see the most often and really cannot avoid.
Sure, there's the dumb Rogue names (Stabbitha, Gangsta) ad nauseum but it's the "altered" names that make me want to kill.
Want to name your character "Doom" but it's taken? Go ahead and name it Doomm! Paladin Hammer? Taken? Crap. Name it Hammerr instead!
Or even better! Hammerx? Xhammerx?
THIS is the reason so many people say WoW is played by 12-year-olds.
I love it now that school's back in session. The realms will be much better during the day (when I mplay the most). :P

What really gets me is the INFINITE Sephiroth/Sephiroph/Sefiroth/Sephirof/Sephirot/Sepiroth/Saphiroth/Sepheroth/Sepharoth/Sapharof...
You get the idea. l2originality.
For that matter, I've never seen someone named Cloud. COrrect me if I'm worng, but didn't Cloud and his buddies... umm... KILL Sephiroth?
