Lights! Camera! Action!
For a while we've heard murmurs of a Warcraft movie in the works, but now it seems the entertainment media has taken notice as well. Warcraft, as it is now tentatively called, now has a page on imdb. Although there isn't a lot of information here that we don't already know, you can rest assured that this page will be updated, so if you're aching to see the movie, you might want to bookmark this page and check back every so often. The media progression from game to movie while perhaps not completely unprecedented, is still somewhat unique. While part of me is jumping up and down and excited about the movie, part of me is wondering how exactly they're going to pull it off, and if they're going to live up to my expectations and the expectations of other players. We know Thrall is going to be in it. I wonder who they will cast for that role? Is there a particular NPC or locale in the game you want to see featured in the movie? What about a particular actor or actress? I think I'm looking forward to the "in" jokes the most.
Time will pass quickly and it won't be long until we're all lined up at the box office!

My biggest concern will definitely be with casting.
Legendary Pictures has already proven they can create great action on an epic scale. I don't have a lot of concerns about the quality of the film they will make (though when the director is chosen, than opinion could change).
I just hope that they pick the right people for the parts. This movie will suffer a lot of Lord of the Rings comparisons, for obvious reasons, but one of the things the LotR movies did right was casting what I consider to be the perfect actor for pretty much every single role.
If they are making a story when major characters like Thrall appear, then better get good people. Even if the characters are created with mo-cap CG, the voice and presence of the actor behind them is paramount. (Gollum is really the best example of this, but also see Tim Curry in Legend.) And if the main characters are just some random heroes thrown together in the midst of this epic battle, then better be played by extremely memorable (and preferably not-so-big-named) actors and actresses.
OH! AND THERE BETTER BE TAURENS! LOTS OF THEM. *sternface*

Thrall - "I'm worried... Aside from the legion, I hear rumors of a more powerful being. It troubles me greatly Grom."
Grom Hellscream - "Who could cause you this much ditress?"
Thrall - "I only hear whispers throughout the camps. His name is foreign... A human called Chuck, Chuck Norris"
I kid I kid,
I'd like to see Archimonde. I think the fist war would make a great movie.

It's gunna be about the Alliance, humans specifically, therefore its gunna suck.

It's a videogame movie, thus it will probably suck.

Oh boy, time for the world at large to see what a hackneyed and derivative piece of work the entirety of WoW lore is. I can't wait to see the looks of utter shock on fanboys faces as this movie is ripped apart by critics for its laughably bad and corny 15 year old D&D plot. The sad thing is just how many people take it seriously as some kind of quality fantasy storytelling.

As long as they get Rosie O'Donnel for the part of Ramstein the Gorger, or the Princess in Maraudon, it should work.

Thrall = Rip Torn

I think everyone want to see Hogger.. and at least a few murlocs !
I heard they won't cast famous actors or at least, not because they're famous. They said wow is popular enough to avoid this.

You're an idiot.

That's like me saying, well, you're probably a moron, so therefore you're stupid. You don't know shit about the movie, so STFU, thanks.

I still think it's a bad idea to have the first movie start at what is essentially "part 3" in the Warcraft saga. There's a ton of backstory that they're going to have to either diligently explain, or just ignore. Here's a big one: where did the orcs come from? Here's another: why are they at war with the Alliance? I really don't want to see what would be at least 2 awesome movies condensed down to 5 minutes of narration.
Another thing I worry about is how they'll handle the Horde. Without any backstory, it's going to look like a bunch of evil monsters attacking the "good guys".
I REALLY think the movies would turn out much better if they did WC1 first, WC2 second, WC3 third. Maybe even make the expansions into movies, or at least incorporate their storylines.
But all that aside, I think they'll make a great movie. But I don't know if it will actually BE Warcraft, or just use its name.

Who'll play Leroy Johnson?

Chuck Norris NEEDS to be in this movie.

Do you guys think that they'll be casting any actors of an African background? I don't see many dark skinned characters (only Humans?) in the game OR in the races themselves.. Personally I'd like to see http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0674782/ , Harold Perrineau play as a comical evil guy.
I guess this is a bit 'in your face' but I like discussion like this (and ideas on different types of actors for characters)...

The IMDB page has been up for months, and has not been updated for months. I demand more info!!
I'm actually looking forward to this movie, I hope that they cast well.

I agree with post #10. To start at WC3 for the story is going be equal to the experience of the cinematic version of Myst (you know, plopped down in the middle of nowhere, not knowing where you are, what to do, what the goal is). The people with no idea as to the
backstory are going to be sitting there going "WTF? What's all of this? Who's this person? Why's this happening?"
That being said, however, I'm REALLY interested as to who will be playing Arthas. (I mean, they have to have Arthas in it, don't they?)
