Around Azeroth: A visit to the Ironforge airstrip
While we've seen the airstrip over Ironforge before, reader Lfnotter sent in this shot with the thought that it was appropriate considering the rumors of flying machines for engineers in the expansion. Will we one day be constructing our own devices just like these? Will the Iong-closed Ironforge airstrip be opened to visiting engineers? We're all going to have to wait and see...!

Hmmm... the Gnome air strip... I thought he was supposed to be a gnome village like Sen'Jin.
The trolls and the orcs are starting in the same region so this could be the counterpart of Sen'Jin.
But this place is likely to be a forgotten place of Azeroth like Gilneas, the mystic troll village west of Moonglade and so on...

Perhaps it'll be the counterpart to the Gnomish Outpost/Airstrip in Borean Tundra. You can already get up there without a mount from the NW corner of Loch Modan.

Gotta love the sharks mouth/teeth painted on the noses of the aircraft... a la US WWII planes. Nice touch.

Whats the new technique for getting up there? I was one of the first people to do it in the beta but have no idea how to get up there now.

If you want the easiest way to get to the airstrip start at 19,14 in Lock Modan. It is on the right side of the Lock Modan, North Gate Pass entrance. You'll need to do some jumping to get up into the trees and once int eh treeskeep working your way back towards Dun Morough (kind of stay to the right and look for the snow covered trees.) Once you get into Dun Morough, look for the open snow field and run across it to the mountain side. Once at the mountain side, stay to teh left or you fall to your death in the Wetlands. Look for a dead tree and keep moving towards the Airstrip. Make sure to keep checking your map if you not sure. If you are a Hunter, there is a pet trainer up there. Also, tons of respawning trolls, who actually have great for farming linen. Have fun!

OMG WHAT IF THE AIR STRIP OPENS AND ITS A WAY TO GET TO NORTHEREND! They said there was Gonna Be a Gnome town in Northrend, That would be a great idea to reuse the airstrip!

maybe they could use the Air strop to get to Northrend! There is a gnome town in Northrend so it would work out Perfect!

the airstrip currently serves two purposes
1) displays something quirky for the alliance flight path (infact there's lots of cool quirky stuff above IF)
2) explains the lack of flight that we saw in wc3
if blizzard ever let us fly planes, it'll be in some battleground / arena type scenario, or static flightpath, as opposed to any open ended free roaming flight mechanic.

@6-7, They have already stated they are using ships. At least for alliance, and Zeps for horde
