First
Orc males, then
Draenei, and now Night Elves? It appears that
Night Elf shoulders have shrunk (just a bit-- not nearly as dramatic a change as the Orc shoulders were) over on the PTRs. We talked about this on
the WoW Insider show last week: what is up with Blizzard's code that changes like this are happening? What variables are they editing that makes the weird stuff like this happen?
At any rate, there is good news. Hortus says the issue is unintentional, and will be fixed in an upcoming PTR build. So your Night Elf will still be able to wear his broad shoulder pieces with pride.

Shoulder-shrikage is apparently contagious; soon all races will come down with a case of it.

"What variables are they editing that makes the weird stuff like this happen?"
in openGL its glScale(xyz), basically it changes the scale of the object in the xyz direction(or all of them if u want the whole thing bigger/smaller)
I guess someone doesnt like the exagerated shoulder look, which is a pitty cause i do :(

maybe it's me, maybe i don't care...but i don't see the difference
I couldn't tell with Orcs and Draeni either
Qanaesin Sep 6th 2007 1:22PM
who cares?
John Sep 6th 2007 1:22PM
Why do people care?

@3, how can you not tell the difference with Orcs? They look TINY.
Hollywood Ron Sep 6th 2007 1:34PM
ARGH! MY SHOULDERS ARE SHRINKING! HALP!
Arras Sep 6th 2007 1:41PM
@6...meh, i dunno
just never paid any attention to it...maybe if they had tiny little pin heads, I'd notice

Gnomes are going to be two-dimensional

That's it! I'm quitting! How in the h3ll can I be expected to play this game, and enjoy doing it, if they are constantly changing shoudler sizes? I have never played a game where the devs changed the shoulder size as frequently as this one. What are they thinking? The subscriber base is in the toilet as it is now. No one is going to be playing the expansion because everyone is leaving...thanks to the whole shoulder size issue!

The orc issue has shown that this is a serious issue for many players. Blizzard can't have any excuses for this. Every time I see something like this my opinion of Blizzard lowers.
It's a good job I'm not their dev's manager because I would be screaming bloody murder at this. It just shows the company in the worst light possible.

I am really not bothered about having small shoulders, the problem is that Blizzard won't come out and say what is going on. Are they making them small on purpose, or is it really a "bug"?
I don't see why it is so hard to give a straight answer on such a simple thing...
Kotathalas Sep 6th 2007 2:18PM
I think this is all a conspiracy to distract us from the fact that they are slowly making the gnomes bigger!! Bastards!
Coherent Sep 6th 2007 2:19PM
I figure they must be making some change to the engine that causes certain items to have adjustable scalability.
MAYBE THIS MEANS they're going to allow the player to adjust these values on their character model!
They've always faced the criticism that endgame players look generic once they've gotten certain equipment. So maybe they're addressing this problem by slowly adding greater customization.

As long as they keep mounts used by gnomes larger than other', I'm happy. My Wintersaber dominates Ironforge.
FireStar Sep 6th 2007 2:40PM
omg how my blogs need to be about shoulders? i swear this is probably the 10th blog i've seen crying about shoulders. Yall should just add a seperate tag line for "Shrinking Shoulders" that people can search by. Just make it a Weekly article about which races now have their shoulders shrunk. Hire two new people just to cover shrinking shoulders.
K guess I made my point :P.

@11 Things like product quality in regards to Orc shoulder graphics must seem monumental when you work at Subway.
Eegg Sep 6th 2007 2:46PM
No kidding. This is a great blog, but ENOUGH with the shoulder articles.
Erica Olson Sep 6th 2007 2:53PM
QQ over your shoulder size.
Shrink the stupid thighs of the females. They all look like they're fat and bloated.
Keith Heymann Sep 6th 2007 2:59PM
So what happens when they do toon breast reductions instead of shoulder reductions?
