Ninja inviting is a no-no
I can't really say I'm surprised to the response to the question Calipsa asked. But what I am surprised by is why she asked it: she wanted to know if sending group or even guild invites without whispering first was rude, and players responded overwhelmingly that it was. Why did she think it wasn't? There's almost nothing more confusing than receiving a random group or guild invite, and considering that even spammers are using group invites to spam, it's just not something you want to do.Now maybe she meant just whether a whisper was necessary or not. If a player is marked LFG, or they're a guildie you know is available for a group, or they've just shouted out "LFG for group quests" in a chat channel, then I'd say they're fair game for a ninja invite. You don't need to actually whisper them and confirm everything you do (well, it's still nice to do, but in those cases, I'd say you don't need to).
But yes, invites out of the blue are a no-no. Rude, maybe, annoying, yes, and usually a waste of time for both parties.

well, i'm running around guildless at 70 for reasons i wont go into, and i get about 5 invites an hour if i'm stood in Org - mostly from lvl 30's and such who think it'd be cool to get a 70 in their guild.
guilds such as "Imbaz" and silly names like that mostly :P

I had a random guild invite on an alt the other day. I rejected it and stuck the inviter on block!

I don't mind getting group invites from people who come running up doing the same quest I am doing, and it is merely a kill X of Y. I also don't mind them doing so when I am at the end boss of a particular quest chain. I know how annoying it can be when you just miss out on the mob and it has a ridiculously slow respawn rate, while the adds respawn around it far quicker. I have done the same thing myself on occassion. Outside the immediate-need category of group invites, I have only accepted offers from people who ask me in a legible manner and detail what it is they have going on. ie: "Doing [instance] for a rogue who needs his [class quest item]. Need one more, have tank and healer, need CC." I would also accept the known abbreviations so long as they aren't accompanied with a lot of "lolz!111" I have never accepted "SM" however. And I love it when they come from clear across the map.
And I have been one of those who accidentally hits "Invite" instead of "Inspect". Embarassing.

I was in the lfg channel and i said "lfg for any instance that's quick" and got a ninja invite (this isn't group quests, it's not like just any people will do so whispering before invite is still required if you ask me). So i sent a reply to go to this article online :).

I've done the random invite b/c I was trying to inspect numerous times. I now use /inspect to save myself the embarrassment.

I had one person yesterday invite me over and over again to a group without saying a word. After I had declined for the 8th time he whispered me with "why u not want to come with us?".
Because, said I, you did not ask me first!
