WoW Moviewatch: 20k DPS in Black Morass
Pretty incredible. Xetrov on Farstriders took a few friends (and a pretty good Pally tank-- never thought I'd say those words) into Black Morass, and trashed all the trash. At once. With AoE. Good lord, look at all those numbers. He says he cracked 20,000 DPS, which is pretty jaw dropping.
And this is also a really good example of how Blizzard has more or less crushed AoE when you're taking on more than ten mobs-- Xetrov has almost 800 spell damage, and yet his crits are hitting at around 150-200, because with so many targets, his spell damage is pretty much negated. He's still pulling down tons of DPS (and when are you really taking on more than 10 mobs, except in wacky situations like this?). But showing numbers like 150 and 160 coming off of a Mage with 800 spell damage show pretty clearly how weak AoE can get with this many targets.

that was a frigging great idea. why haven't I thought of this before? I'm going in today and trying it.

I'm not regularly one to post just to disagree with the author. However, I fail to see what's "weak" about 20,000 dps. Cool vid.

Wow...magegasm.
Luclan Sep 7th 2007 12:30PM
@2 you haven't pulled bm trash like this before? I always pull it that way.
@3 in comparison to how it WOULD be if blizzard didn't cap damage in aoe it is very weak. with 800 spell dmg and that many aoe targets, without the cap, he should have 4-5 times that dps.
Matthew Sep 7th 2007 12:31PM
#3, I think he was saying that hitting a target for only 150 when you have +800 damage or more is a pretty weak hit, as indeed it is. If there had only been 10 mobs each AOE would've been hitting for a thousand or more, I bet.
YPEELS40 Sep 7th 2007 12:33PM
@3 He meant a mage with a high spell power like 800 should be hitting a lot harder but since there are so many mobs, you can see how weak AoE can get with this many targets.

Been doing that for quite a while. Never stops to amaze people :)
Oh and "BOOOO!" at the lame comment about tankadins
Verit Sep 7th 2007 12:40PM
We had our pally pull the entire instance and aoe all those down - not entirely unheard of.
Also the Illhoof fight on my warlock I easily top all the damage meters aoeing imps. We try to keep the boss(es) in range so that they are getting damage too.

I was more amazed at his number of buttons...120 buttons in his bottom bars plus cryolysis...
is that really needed?

Just a note, i read this thread when it first appeared. In the video shown he does not actually hit 20k dps. In later attempts, he uses blizzard, which on live does not have aoe damage caps. (ticking for about 300-400, tick 2x every second) Blizzard is actually nerfing this so that blizzard hits AoE caps too.

"(and a pretty good Pally tank-- never thought I'd say those words)"
Hey buddy, F you
Hide Sep 7th 2007 2:16PM
That wouldn't have been possible except with a pally tank -- not the best single-target tanks, but definitely the best "oh-shit-that's-a-@@@@-lot-of-mobs" tank.
Tankadin Sep 8th 2007 4:45PM
fu and this site on your "pretty good paladin tank" comment...d*uche bag
aellas Sep 7th 2007 3:12PM
Yeah, what's up with the tankadin hate? Not cool.
Lucius Sep 7th 2007 3:21PM
Meh, do this all the time on my pally, and FU for the tankadin hate, guess you think we should sit at the bank and heal warriors, those bitches get crushed by raid bosses all the time.

"and a pretty good Pally tank" ........LOL yeah you see that about as much as you see someone running around with Ashbringer
Mike Schramm Sep 7th 2007 3:29PM
All right, someone needs to come to Thunderhorn-Horde and show me how a Pally can tank. Or level up to ~25 on Zangarmarsh and I'll run an instance with my priest. I've heard they can do it (and videos like this show they can, obviously), but I just don't see it happening.
Mike Schramm Sep 7th 2007 3:32PM
Actually, scratch that-- maybe I'll get a good ingame prize and turn it into a contest. "The Paladin Challenge." I like it-- keep your eyes out for a post about it.

Don't you completely contradict yourself there?
