Breakfast Topic: Your favorite instance
For today's Breakfast Topic, we're asking a question I'm not even sure I could answer. I can often be found playing a healer, which makes running instances (and I do mean smaller instances, not raids) is my favorite thing to do. And in the game right now there are so many great instance runs to choose from that it's hard to pick just one as a favorite. But, fortunately, I'm not asking myself, I'm asking you -- what's your favorite small instance (not raid) to run in World of Warcraft today? And if you have a favorite, why is it your favorite? (Great loot, good reputation, amusing mob chats, what?) Tell us all about it in the comments!Filed under: Breakfast Topics, Instances

Pretty sure it says not raid :P
Back on topic; Mechanar on Heroic isn't too bad because of that first boss which gives the damage multiplier. Thats also a bit of fun.

SM, nuff said end of story.

Shattered Halls, the first two boss fights are hilarious between the sadistic warlock and the arguing ogre.
Arcatraz's happy couple is amusing too, I've gotta convince my groups to fight Socco first to see what his wife says.

SM, first winged instance iirc, can be done in parts or all at once, cool last bosss event, some nice drops and quest rewards from it, it makes the 35-40 lvl gap a bit more fun plus it has a nice Mail set for newly 40'd hunters and shammys or 35+ pre plate warriors and pallys.

The Deadmines, no doubt about it!

How can anybody choose anything other than the Deadmines! Yes it's for low levels but the design and flow are brilliant, the quest line leading upto it is well thought out. Really enjoyed running through when i was the right level, but as i've never rolled an alt i have ot run it at 70 to see it again (which i've done on a few occasions)

Karazhan. I've been max exalted for a few months now and I still enjoy running that instance even though there is no loot for me.

BWL! I liked learning the fights. I like the way the instance looks, it takes some skill, and c'mon...draaagons!

SM, without a doubt.
Makes 30-40 gap more than just "MOUNTMOUNTMOUNTMOUNT".

Instance? Oh that's a tough one.
I'd have to say Naxxrammas despite not seeing past 2 wings. I LOVE the feel of the dungeon, and did from day one. Although some people say it's lazy design by Blizz, I think it's a *fantastic* decision to make Naxx the first raid zone of the expansion. Many players didn't get to see it much (or at all) in old WoW and it's still by far the best raid dungeon to date.
Boss will go to my old (pun intended) buddy C'thun. Even after all of TBCs dungeon bosses and Kara/Gruuls/SSC/TK's bosses, he's still the most fun and interesting encounter to date for me, no question. My guild back then killed him before the easymode 2.0 patch and it's still one of the few things in WoW I'm "proud" to remember and will continute to be so even after I move on from WoW.

shadowfang keep by far
i just loved the way the story is put in front of you constantly throughout the instance, with arugal constantly popping up, boss fights were a bit varied to which is good considering the level of the instance

*Sigh* I need to read the whole article before posting. Sometimes you skip the last few lines thinking "oh it don't matter...". -_-
Dungeon is joint Shattered Halls / Old Hillsbrad then. I'm not a huge fan of 5 mans because they grow repetitive VERY quickly for me. (Especially as I'm doing them with a 2nd toon now. :< )However due to the simply nice design of SH it get's my vote. I LOVE Old Hillsbrad due to the lore side of things, such as all the NPCs in Southshore. Great event with Thrall escaping too. Always fun to run that instance.

Zul'Farrak. It must have got me a few of my levels. Even at 70 I go back to help people out there from time to time. I enjoy the boss events (

eh, opps 0.o here's the rest of my comment.

VC FTW... Also Karazhan because of the Big Bad Wolf. Ahaha that's always fun.
andrea Sep 9th 2007 9:54AM
deadmines and monestary are sadly, the best designed instances in the game.
funnest, for me is probably the black morass because it is non-stop and short. hillsbrad is also fun.
the rest of the BC instances, I hate -- they all look the same and get boring after you've done them just a couple times.
Fletch Sep 9th 2007 10:18AM
A lot of the lower level instances are really great: Deadmines, Shadowfang Keep, Scarlet Monastery, and Zul'farak, and Stratholme are probably the best.
A lot of the BC instances are really fun and well designed, but almost all of them are lacking in good lore. Only the Hellfire Citadel ones makes you feel like you're leading up to something. I'd say that Shattered Halls is probably my favorite BC instance, just because the pace is really tense, followed by Shadow Labyrinth.
The worst things an instance can do, in my opinion, are be a) too long (BRD for instance), b) have too broad a level range (Uldaman), or c) be in a really boring cave (Wailing Caverns, most of BFD, Uldaman, a lot of Mauradon, Underbog).

VC without a doubt. The feeling I got walking into the giant dock at the end has yet to be matched in this game.
Tholrom Sep 9th 2007 10:43AM
Arc...the disfunctional couple and the gnome at the last boss fight is amusing. :)
