Forum post of the day: What do you do with 12k gold?
Mirages of Cenarius has what might be the most rare problem in all of Azeroth, right up there with "I am overpowered" and "There are too few people in the cave in AV and it's being attacked": she has too much gold. As she writes in the Professions Forum, she has 12,000 gold pieces and nothing to spend them on. She's gotten all the recipes she needs, all the gems ... and now there's nothing left to buy.
Jealous forumgoers give her some good suggestions, though:
- Money fight!
- Bribe the main tank of the top raiding guild on your server to "accidentally" wipe.
- Pay an entourage to meet you at the city gates and follow you through the city shouting various praises to you.
- Collect rare non-combat pets. As someone whose jewelcrafting was financed mostly by the Hyacinth Macaw, I heartily support this idea.
- Send one thousand gold to somebody with the requirement that they never tell anybody ever, and see if they can keep their mouth shut.
- In trade chat, advertise giving away one hundred gold to everybody who whispers you, then follow through on it. Nobody other than the initial idiots will believe you.
- Pay off a horde guild to gather in a circle and let you AoE grind them for honor.
- Buy one hundred and ten of "The Rock" and propose to everybody who does anything nice to you.
There's an officer in my guild who has over 10,000g and continues farming. It might be some sort of hoarding disorder where he wants to be prepared for Wrath of the Lich King, but I think he just enjoys lording it over us broke peons. I still don't have an epic flyer for either of my characters, but then again, I loaned my entire epic mount fund to a friend, which was worth it.
What would you do with excess gold?

I think the real question would be, "How did you make the money and can you show me a trick or 2 to make it myself"

Wow, 12K gold? Is there some sort of Scarface option to the game that I didn't know about in which one could deal drugs?
Shadowisp Sep 10th 2007 11:13AM
I have too much gold... usually its a result of constant grinding while the person has 1 main, no alts to fund.
I use my gold to make people swear and curse and cry :P
Do lots with the spare gold I have, help out a lot of friends, buy gifts for girls I got crushes on :P
I gave away about 5 Fireflys so far... going to fill a Kara raid with them one day :P
I pay people to continually wipe Deadmine runs :P
When someone brags about how much gold they have... I make them cry :P

P.S. Pre-BC I was 15K Gold.
Now I am about 20K Gold now... and spent probably 7K Learning JC, 5K Flying Mount, 6K BoE Epics/Rares... just for one character.
Mostly the result of a lot of hours, good grinds, lots of dailies and not needing to buy too much stuff.
Got bored now... so I decided to finally level an Alt... probably will spend 10K gold on itemisation/trades/mounts for it too.

Suggestion: Save your gold now... Wraith is only 1 year away :P

Well once I financed the remainder of my tailoring and enchanting projects, and gotten my alt's blacksmithing maxed out, I'd start handing it around to guildies who needed it for stuff. Though seeing as my little "projects" never end, and keep sucking up my money - I highly doubt I'll ever be in a situation to truly find out.

@1 It's as simple as mining, herbing and swift flight form.

I'd offer to fully finance my best non-WoW-playing real-life friend's character if he'd sign up and play WoW with my wife and I. Maybe even multiple friends if I had as much gold as Mirages.

I have 15k gold. Two epic flying mounts, all JCing and Enchanting Recipes, crafted epics on my alt, etc.
Mining/Herbing + BEM Dailies are a cash cow. Badge of Tenacity alone is going 1200+ on my server.

wow really doesn't give you much to spend money on. everything worth getting is BoP, so its not like you can save up to buy your tier 6. once you hit a point where you have your netherdrake, and full epics, theres nothing left to buy really.
I bought our main tank his epic flying mount training. no main tank should have to fly around on less than a netherdrake.

Are any of you high-rollers on Shandris? Cuz ermm... *begs*
My highest character on this server is only 47 but I just broke the 600g mark. I'm a 'casual' gamer, and not in anyway someone who spends hours farming anything, so I'm proud of myself.
I'd probably have more, but I keep myself decked out in new greens and blues as often as possible. I've also got a few lower level alts that I've twinked out.
I've done most of this by just playing the AH.

If your feeling philanthropic, head to a newbie zone and wait for someone to spawn for the first time. Ask how long they've been playing WoW, and if they'd like to join your guild. Identify a true n00b with your line of questioning, then give them 2000g. But only do that once. You'll be a legend...you might also be harassed to be forewarned.
You could also buy every purple on the AH and relist it for a copper.
PeeWee Sep 10th 2007 11:56AM
On the other hand... if T6 was buyable, who would profit the most, Blizzard or the gold farmers?
Kire Sep 10th 2007 12:06PM
Find a way to implement an in game lottery. You would become rich beyond your wildest dreams.
Tumples Sep 10th 2007 12:21PM
Buy someone a mount then make a stupid 99 page thread about it on the EU forums that will be full of people telling you how awesome you are.

On our realm some guy has over 180k gold... :D

bock on CoH before CoV went live, players with tons of disposable income would host all kinds of events: hide and seek, costume contests, background contests, or just give away a pile of cash to a random passer by. It's how I made most of my money.
In WoW the options are a bit more limited. I could see things like "Most out of date Equipment", or best name, something like that

"What do you do with 12k gold?"
Get some alts, they can cost plenty, but they're fun to play and give you a whole support system of crafters (I have my own enchanter, engineer, all gathering profs, etc...).
My main is completely tricked out with every purchasable item andI have money to burn at the moment too (just short of 5k). Now I'm deciding if I want to drop 5k on an epic flyer for my 70 alt, or save it for another up-and-coming alt who I prefer. I may do neither, because the more I get into my alts, the less I grind my main on daily quests and mining, so the cash isn't coming in as fast.
I dropped several hundred on my lowly 38 priest this weekend because I wanted to trick him out for WSG weekend. Umbral crystal, dual underworld bands, mats for 35+ outland enchants on his new gear (my 70 alt is an enchanter, but low on mats - these big enchants make level 35 a happy place for my other alts, too much stuff at 70 is BOP but man is it handy having a high level enchanter on deck for alts).
You can blow a lot of money just playing the game with alts. Only someone who has a single main and never plays anything else will encounter "too much money"
Marcus Sep 10th 2007 12:44PM
I've made about that amount with 2 chars in outlands mining and herbing. My problem is I never have enough to spend on things I want for each character. Between pots, mounts, and my alts I don't have money on my mains to buy rare 3k gold plans when they come up in the AH.
@1 - Daily quests + mining = money

Just buy your favorite guild tank and healer their epic flying skill. I bought my favorite healer her flying skill. And I have just enough on my main to get my alt his flying skill.
