The Starcraft 2 petition

So I wandered over to Blizzplanet this morning to check out what new information they might have, about the Wrath of the Lich King, about the upcoming patches, really anything of interest. Now, I only recently got into the Starcraft universe, really since the announcement about a sequel being in development. It was at that time that I decided to pick up a copy of the game and see what it was all about. RTS had never been my genre, but I am really enjoying the game for multiple reasons. So when I saw the petition listed on Blizzplanet, I was intrigued.
In Starcraft2, Blizzard's new addition to the genre, there are many things that have reappeared. Characters we know and love are back, albeit with some updates. The most notable change in the characters aside of their appearance is their voices. Evidently Blizzard has decided to go with new voice actors for this project, which leaves diehard Starcraft fans feeling disjointed and more than a little irritated. Thus Blizzplanet has put together a petition, and no it's not to bring back the Firebat. The petition is to let Blizzard know how much the players of Starcraft want to hear the same voice acting in Starcraft 2. The voice work in Starcraft was particularly brilliant, and was a huge part of what gave the game its personality. They ask that Blizzard work with the people that brought that magic to the first game. It really isn't a lot to ask, it just requires a change in Blizzard strategy. Will it work? Sign the petition and find out.

"The most notable change in the characters aside of their appearance is their voices. "
Umm, no. All the petition says is that the voice actors have not been contacted. It doesn't say anywhere that other voice actors have been hired in their place. My guess would be that the dialogue hasn't even been written yet, and that the recording process is a long ways off. This is really a tempest in a teapot.

No. I disagree. The memories of Starcraft I had had nothing to do with the voice acting. It was above average at best imo. What I remember was the Zealot who was going toe to toe with a hydralisk... then looks at his Psi blades as they fizzle out... obviously thinking... "Oh !$%^"
And whatever with your comment with the Firebat. Nothin was more awesome then the pictures of a firebat in the CGI smokin a cigar, torchin little zerglings.

I think new voices is a good idea makes it feel like a new game instead of the same old game with newer graphics. Helps to seperate it from the past.

Um, minor point: at blizzcon, they mentioned that one of the actors passed away. Contacting is a bit tough.
I liked the voices, but Blizzard covered that some of the other actors voices did not quite match anymore, and the aging requirements don't match.

I have to admit, it took a bit longer than I thought it would for the "community" to get all up in arms on a large scale about something related to SC2. Kinda surprised there haven't been public outcries to nerf Hydras, or buff Cannons, or something equally as silly.
New or old voice actors? Loved Starcraft and will definitely be playing SC2, but I would be very ahrd pressed to care any less about something like this.

Starcraft fans don't the feel of a new game, they want a painless update to the game that has kept their attention for ten years.

"and no it's not to bring back the Firebat."
Gasp! I didn't even realize they were missing until you said that!

Now who's gonna ask me if I have any questions about propane/propane accessories? Who's gonna say "slammin'" like they used to?? :(

I doubt Blizzard will ever get Bill Roper to do anything for them ever again.
In case you don't know who Bill Roper is:

I think the two characters they're focusing on are Kerrigan and Raynor. I noticed in one of the BlizzCon videos (the Campaign video) that Raynor sounded considerably different. In fact, he sounded like a regular Marine. The voice was far too low, and didn't seem to fit his character very well.
Right now, I'm hoping that it was just a fill-in voice for BlizzCon. Blizz is known for having some pretty good voice actors on their staff, so maybe that was one of them.
