You shall not evade me, Kaliri!
After taking a summer break from WoW, I returned to discover the joys of Daily Quests. I have limited play time and these daily quests go a long way in helping me towards that mythical 5,000 gold that will grant me epic druid Flight Form. Well, 5kg and some quest or something.Taking to the skies of Skettis, I went out to bomb those wriggling bird eggs with glee. Until a monstrous Kaliri bird swooped in to knock me off my perch, so to speak. Landing on a platform, I shifted into cat form, ready to show that overgrown parakeet why it shouldn't mess with its feline superior. I powered up my +atk trinket and let loose with a flurry of combos designed to bring any solo mob to a quick, bloody end.
Imagine my surprise when I realized the Kaliri's health remained at full as a stream of EVADE EVADE EVADE messages floated across my screen. Some bug in the game mechanics allowed these birds to evade attacks. Since then, I've learned to out fly them (upwards), but I have the advantage of not being dismounted in druid flight form by their Swoop attack.
Revenge, however, is arriving shortly in the next patch. Today, Community Manager Drysc confirmed the Kaliri evasion bug will be fixed in Patch 2.2. After that, it will be easy to spot me on the platforms of Skettis. I'll be the Night Elf with orange feathers in his mouth.

In the interim if they're evading just try to stand in the dead centre of their circle when you're attacking, it usually fixes the problem.
Failing that, simply walk out of their attack range. They reset after 30s or so anyway ò.ó

I purposply make them bug out so i stop getting hit :p
If you go underneath the canopy then fly up. They get stuck in the canopies and evade :p

Yeah. it's already bad enough that it's annoying trying to shake one of them off while flying and when you decide you want to kill it you can't. The worst part is they evade you but you remain in combat. Good to hear that the bug will be fixed.

I was initially highly annoyed with those damned birds when I started doing stuff down in Skettis. I've died more than a few times to those buggers but what really annoys me? The fact that if you don't die when you drop out of the sky and you don't get hit with the Evade bug, and you spend the time and energy to kill the damned Kaliri, you *DON'T GET ANY BLOODY LOOT!*
Sorry, sore subject. I'll quiet down now.

Last time I checked, I'm not Dan O'Halloran, so I'm wondering how come I'm reading exactly what I did last night.
(I ended up having to jump off the platform and went splat on the ground. Did that happen to you, too, Dan?)

So I understand via posts that they are supposed to be able to dismount you, but never, in my entire life of dailyquests, seen one Dismount anyone, I've been hit by them but never got a "swoop" or such skill.
weird...

lol, feather final made me laugh
Medros Sep 11th 2007 11:19PM
Umm, hungry much? I mean I know cats chase birds, but those birds are a tad bigger than you are...
Seriously, though, it is great to hear about the fix to the evasion problems with them, and if I recall they will also now drop loot and be a rep gain when killed, so they will not simply be an annoyance to the players in Skettis.

Those quests make me love being a druid. (Okay, so LOTS of things make me love being a druid.) We can bomb the eggs in flight form - we don't have to be mounted. I quit flying up to get away tho' - I fly down and zig-zaggy toward the mountain, so if I die, I can recover my dang corpse!
I dunno WHY I'm doing those quests anyhow - I don't want to ride a freaky space fish.

@8: For the gold of course. 12g per quest per day? Very nice.
I hit Exalted with the Skyguard today, and I also hit 5000g. Unfortunately, I don't have the 180g for the mount yet. But getting the advanced riding training opened up the Netherwing quests for me finally, which is nice. So now I'll have even more daily income.
But yea, back to the subject at hand. The Evade bug is extremely annoying to me, because that means I have to get into melee range, and I'm a caster. Well, at least I'm a shaman too, so I have the armor to take it. But charging up lightning bolts while these bastards are up in your face is annoying, especially since they occasionally interrupt. Sure hope I get some sort of crowd control in WLK.

I think this is the #1 thing I'm looking forward to in the next patch. You can keep your new instances, and voice chat, and all that other stuff, just fix the damned birds!!!
Dan, good luck on the EFF quests. The pre-Sethekk part is easy, but the 5000G and key for heroic Sethekk parts are a pain.

I've been dismounted by them a couple times; then again the bombing quest is a daily quest that I actually do every day. Been exalted in Skyguard for a long time, but it's still $11.99 I didn't have before.
I make no attempt to fight them at all. It may be superstition, but I believe that the plants and trees up there provide some cover and break their field of vision, so you can duck in there.
When I encounter one U head low, to take minimal falling damage if I do get dismounted, and then light out to Shadowmoon. You're safe once you cross the border. I would fight them, but I'm a warrior, and getting a caster add from one of those shadow guys show up in the middle of the fight is not a pleasant experience.

The birds dismount you if they manage to slow you, which they'll be able to do (as with anything that attacks you while mounted) if you turn your back on them.
Mike Schramm Sep 12th 2007 1:42AM
Merus, are you sure you're not Dan O'Halloran? Some people are and they just don't know it.
Br_other Sep 12th 2007 4:14AM
Thank god that hunters have Feign Death. FD -> OOC -> Mount and continue.

Interesting. I've never been knocked out of the sky while in flight form. When I finally got my 5000g together and bought a 'space fish' (in red, so it was cool), I was surprised to find myself in mid air, mountless, in combat, but luckily above the water. The speed advantage still made it worthwhile, though. That happened three times total until we ran Sethekk Halls heroic and now epic flight form is mine. I'm happy to say that I haven't been knocked out of epic form since.
Btw, patch notes also indicate that Monstrous Kaliri will have loot.
And nerf heroic Sethekk Ravenguards.
Jeramon Sep 12th 2007 9:34AM
Yep, the birds will have loot soon, next patch I believe.
I always found the easiest way to evade THEM is just to fly straight up, works pretty much every time. However, now that I have my epic flyer they seem to be able to come all the way up with me, which is disappointing. Now it's easier to evade them laterally however...

For the love of all things holy. When the XP comes and I ding 80-90 or whatever it is, I will make it top priority to go there and kill everything that flies around. I have my epic and I usually have no problem getting away from them but how I hate those birds hitting you at the most annoying time. Escort quest with 3-4 mobs and boom bird swoops down only to evade....grrrrr.
RaydenUni Sep 12th 2007 12:47PM
This is the reason I now hate birds of any sort.
Vestras Sep 12th 2007 2:09PM
love being a druid.
I'm only doing SG dailys to get rep for a trinket, and some cash.
I do hate those fricken birds though. They hit like a truck!
