Around Azeroth: Behind the scenes
Reader Cody informs us that before the release of the Burning Crusade, a Mage who knew what they were doing could blink past the portal to the Deadmines and end up in this interesting alter-universe. With the floating trees and moving rocks, it was thought to be a possible test zone for the Emerald Dream. And, since it doesn't seem to be accessible any longer, we may never know.

Yes, more articles about hitting 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3 repeatedly for the rogues.

Oh how I did enjoy going to this place a few times. It really was interesting to explore. I haven't bothered to check if it was still possible to get there or not, I thought I heard something about them fixing the bug in a previous patch way long ago. I showed some of my IRL friends which enjoyed it as well. If you missed out on this place, there are some cool videos of it somewhere i'm sure.

A, er...friend of mine...yeah, that's it, a friend...blinked through the gate and instance portal into Zul'Aman a couple days ago. Only part of the first temple is there, then it just abruptly cuts off into unfinished terrain.
You can ride around the southern part of the Ghostlands, along the north side of EPL, and north to the Duskwither Spire in Eversong. However, by that Spire and by the Windrunner village in Ghostlands are invisible walls that you can't blink through, so you have to port yourself out when you're done exploring. But hey, you're a mage, that's not exactly a problem. ;)
At one point if you explore around enough (watch out for the fatigue water but you can get around by staying right up against the cliff) you enter a zone called "The North Sea" with its own general and local defense channels. A sneak-peek at WotLK? I think so!

going here on a live server is against terms of service. dont ask me why blizzard put it there in the first place..
you also can get there by doing a long wall jump in the room where Van Cleefs boat is.. Its a bit harder but still does the job.

wait, so back when it worked, how did the mage get in exactly? did they just blink in to the deadmines? because i swear i've done that before

Well, for as many negative comments this feature gets, people send me TONS of screenshots (the screenshots I'm posting now were originally sent to me mid-August, and I usually skip three or four shots in my mailbox for every one I post). This isn't meant to be in-depth content, but an interesting new screenshot to look at once a day, every day, with a couple of lines of description.
I think it serves its purpose and a lot of people enjoy it, but if you only want to read more content-heavy stuff, you don't have to read these, much less comment on them. :)

P.s. yes, there are data files for the Emerald Dream in the game at present. They've been there for quite a while now, and I no longer speculate that they suggest an impending release.
Corrodias Sep 13th 2007 5:19PM
Ah! We should send screenshot files directly to that email address, then?
