Having never liked PvP in most any game (go figure I like the way WoW does it), I picked a PvE realm under the misconception that RP realms actually, you know, RP.

Well.. Ive been playin WoW for 2 years now, all my toons have been on PvP Servers...until just recently i choose to roll on a PvE server...Much nicer leveling i must admin...and nice outside of areas like CFR/Kara/Auch...If i wanna pvp there are BGs or there is always people running around flagged to play with!

I like the excitement of a PvP realm. Sure, it sucks when you get ganked by a high level, but its fun when you find someone near you level for a fight. Even better when you see them and they don't see you, so you can stalk them until you decide to kill them.
I wish I was a rogue...

I have been a carebare, a pvper and now a RP pvper. I started as a carebare because I thought that when you got killed by another player on a PVP server he could loot your equipment, and I didnt want that.
I then joined a PVP server, but I hate the way people name themselves and guilds on a normal server. A fantasy game with people named like Pimpdaddy in a guild(Ninja Pimps for Sweden) kinda ruined the atmosphere for me.
So I am now on a RPPVP server and very happy.

I first rolled on Skywall (PVE) and had a decent time, then a few of my friends wanted me on Gurubashi (PVP-A) with them, so I went. It was all fien and good until one day I was fishing some sagefish in Stonetalon when a 60 Tauren Shaman rode up and smashed my head into the ground to get the fish for himself. It was at that point, I was done with PVP realms.
Now I am on Medivh, PVE. I don't consider myself a carebear, I just want to play uninterupted by some schmuck who gets his jollies smashing random people. I might try an RPPVP at some point in the future though.

Most of my characters are on a PVE realm. But for the last several months I have been working on a druid on RP/PVP realm. I'm not sure what I prefer honestly.
Perhaps it is because my druid is on a rather low population server, but once she got to Outland, it is rare I encounter any World PVP at all, and when I do, it's usually only when I am half dead from mob already. Same for RP, it seems to be kept in-guild, and not done out in the world.
So, I am noticing very little difference in gameplay from one type of server to other, other than if I want, I can go STV and harass people, I suposse.

Started on a PvE server one week after getting a new job ... and suddenly all my workmates were like "Hey, join us, we all play Allies on [PvP Server]..."
So I ditched my PvE Tauren Druid and switched, mainly in order to see PvE content with friends.
By now, I have a new job, few of those friends from back then are still playing ... and I still HATE open-world pvp. How much do I hate it? My WL is revered with the Kharazan faction, has seen a couple of dozen wipes on the first two bosses in SSC ... and has a "lifetime kills" counter of 214. (Which, incidentally, includes kills by people I was grouped with ...)

I hate the term "carebear." First of all, the PvE realms are the ones called "Normal" so it's pretty irritating when people try to say that if you don't roll on PvP you're some sort of subpar player.
That being said I am mainly based on one Normal server, where I happily pvp in battlegrounds and out in the world when I can. My friends picked the server on launch day because they don't enjoy pvp, and playing with friends is much more important to me than the type of realm we're on.

I was recruited by a friend, who was recruited by a co-worker. We both made our toons on the PVE server the co-worker had his toons on. I didn't consider other server types because I wanted to play with people I knew IRL.
Since then I have tried PVP and wasn't too happy with getting ganked all the time. I've not played on a RP server, but I have been thinking about giving one a try sometime.

PVE is the way to go for me. I want to level when I want to level, and when I want to PVP I'll stop on a -9 and PVP my brains out.
Ryan Sep 14th 2007 9:05AM
I play PvE, but I usually walk around flagged most of the time (not so much lately with the stupid rogue sap bug that has lasted the last three months).
FantomRedux Sep 14th 2007 10:05AM
I rolled o a PvE forst, just to get a feel for the game, but my freinds decided to go back to their mains on a PvP server, so I followed, and I can't really say that I see a difference. That's probly because I'm a low level (24 at the minute). It's good having level 70 freinds on a PvP server, because when I get ganked, they go and kill them for me :D

ive been playing for 9 months on a PVP server, and in the last few weeks leveled up a priest to 31 on a PVE... PVP is so much more fun! it makes a heck of a lot more sense, too. of course if you're undead and a night elf walks by, it only makes sense they would not like each other.
PVE is boring
Mel Sep 14th 2007 9:18AM
PVE and RP are the ways to go. Dismissing PVE as "carebear" is pretty asshattish as, a) there is absolutely nothing wrong with helping other players out - yes, even if they are from the other faction! and b) getting your jollies from ganking lower level players doesn't make you "cool" or "edgy." It just proves that you are an asshat. PVP is nice, ganking and "excusing" it as PVP is beyond pathetic.

I'm on a pvp realm. I rolled on one as my first realm with friends, then re-rolled to another, and then another, which I have stayed on. I loved it at low levels, theres nothing like seeing that player 5 levels above you and trying to evaluate his gear to see if you have a shot. (This was before armory, in feralas to be exact.) But now that I'm 70, its different. People swoop down out of nowhere on their epic flyers and kill you while you're soloing an elite. If this is how people felt doing the epic hunter weapon quest a year ago, then I feel for them. It sucks, and I can't transfer because I don't want to leave all the friends i've made here. QQ

@14 Yea, PVP servers are just World of Griefcraft.
Big.Daddy Sep 14th 2007 9:28AM
I choose to play on PvE servers. I haven't ever been big on RP, although I did get into it a little while playing CoH.
I hate dying at any time, and get frustrated easily when I do, so I certainly wouldn't join a PvP realm where high levels can and will come running through lower level zones just to be assholes. No thanks.
I do PvP on my PvE realm, but it's always going to be on my conditions and when *I* decide to do it.
Ahoni Sep 14th 2007 9:29AM
Didn't know the difference when I started so I rolled on a PvE server. Leveled to 60 and started raiding. Some co-workers talked me into rolling on their PvP realm. Got the mage somewhere in the 25-30 range. Wasn't too bad. Occasionally got jumped, but was usally no big deal.
Logged in one day and TM was getting smashed by a bunch of 70s. Corpse run, tried to run away. Dead. I tried to get out of TM for 20-30 minutes. I just wanted to go quest a little, but kept getting killed by people 10+ levels higher than me. Transferred the mage to my normal server the next day and never looked back. That isn't PvP. Thats just a bunch of tools ruining the game for other people.

I started out on an RP-PvP...some of my friends really liked the PvP aspect, and we figured the RP part would weed out some of the normal flotsam you get with PvP realms.
It was actually quite a challenge - and though I never liked or got good at PvP, I developed some pretty good strategies for staying alive and avoiding ganking (until I got to Tarren Mill of course).
Then I switched to PvE because friends and a large guild were over there - good move for me because I get to play with a lot of great people, but good god is it ever ez-mode. I whipped through the remainder of my levels, and had almost 0 trouble leveling an alt. There are days when I'd like to have the challenge back...then I think - no, I really don't want to be flagged waiting outside Kara to summon people.
