Exclusive: Wowhead forums coming
The official World of Warcraft forums are probably in my top five websites that I would describe as "a wretched hive of scum and villainy." They're great for communication with the dev team, and they do contain some truly excellent and/or hilarious content, but overall the signal to noise ratio is pretty low (though the European ones are slightly better).
That's why I'm excited to be able to exclusively announce Wowhead's big new upcoming feature: forums! Wowhead has always been a cleaner, better place to get information about the game, and now, hopefully, to talk about it. You can see something of what it looks like at the top of this post, and there's another image after the cut (these images are from a test board):

You can click the picture to embiggen it. So as you can see, the (custom-coded) forums retain the general minimalism and usefulness of the Wowhead design. Hopefully they will become an excellent place to discuss the finer points of everything WoW -- the community could really use a high-quality discussion forum right now.
Skosiris tells me the forums will go live within 24 hours. What do you think of the design? Will I see you there?

I'll be there for sure. Let's hope that the forums don't turn into an extended version of the O-boards. In it's favor, Wowhead has done a pretty good job of keeping riff-raff and idiocy out of its comment sections, so that's a good sign I think.
Aeonis Sep 23rd 2007 4:10PM
Tbh i think there will just be a conflict between Wowhead and Official forums, if it kicks off that is...
Doomkin Sep 23rd 2007 4:14PM
The official forums depress me with such prevelant despair and ignorance.
I truly hope that these new forums could be a more mature and level-headed discussion about all things wow than the official forums are.
RogueJedi86 Sep 23rd 2007 4:14PM
I hope he lets us vote +/- forum posts, like the comments on everything else on wowhead, so that we can easily stand-out great topics/posts. For that matter, maybe posts with a certain amount of vote ups getting stickied. The stickied part not a big deal, but I love voting up/voting down comments when appropriate, and hope it helps to show spotlight posts.
Akyl Sep 23rd 2007 4:43PM
they should just focus on improving their database. Its better to be good at one thing than being average at several things.
Carpe Noctem Sep 23rd 2007 4:49PM
Count me in, I already own the Lightheaded addon and this is gonna be a great resource to find out info I need
Ryan Sep 23rd 2007 4:52PM
Hopefully wowhead can add some much needed features that the official forums lack (threading, user moderation, etc.).
Shawn Wildermuth Sep 23rd 2007 4:55PM
I love WowHead (and LightHeaded), but making forums when the Blizz Forums are a great place to post is just silly (IMHO).
dekulink Sep 23rd 2007 5:25PM
For the people saying that it will cause a conflict with the official forums, there are already a ton of fan forums that do fine. I love WoW Head, so I'm very excited.
Julia Sep 23rd 2007 6:13PM
I think that the wowhead forums are much needed - the official forums are atrocious. I'll definitely be there.
Dahkeus Sep 23rd 2007 6:45PM
If this becomes a strong forum with mods that actually do something, I'll be all over it. I came from playing GW for two years and spent a lot of time on the forums. When I switched to WoW, I was rather disgusted at much of what plagues the official WoW forums. I still frequent the mage section of the forums pretty often, but digging for diamonds in the rough is a bit of a pain. There are waaaaay too many threads that either cry about how mages are way overpowered or underpowered and they are usually based on one small incident. The threads started where people have questions also tend to result in one person replying with 'lol nub, roll a lock'.

zomg another place for me to post at 100 times a day. sweetness.
