Hunter pets rejoice, for there is a plan - and 2.3 news!
Hunter supreme Mania of Mania's Arcania and Petopia reports that Blizzard does indeed have a plan to help with pet leveling if it turns out that they need one. My wife turned me on to Petopia a long, long time ago and even though I rarely play a hunter (I like to melee too much) I do enjoy browsing the site, so I'm well aware that Mania generally has her thumb on the pulse of pet developments. Also, it seems as though various hunter abilities will be scaling with
ranged attack power. The abilities mentioned include Serpent Sting and Immolation Trap. Since hunters tend to want to stack RAP anyway, these seem like pretty decent changes to the class in my opinion. Also, Arcane Shot is now dispelling one magic effect when it hits.
I don't know if this buff love is enough to balance out the fact that hunters tend to be under-represented in arena teams, but I'll leave that up to you hunters to decide.

Holy cow! Blizzard showing love to hunters that doesn't nerf us!! For some reason, I'm waiting for the other shoe to fall. Like maybe now we have to find the rare gear with RAP instead of AP.

I'm willing to bet that Arcane Shot will now be a 3 second cast and take 1200 mana and only work on Tuesdays under a blue moon.

This is obviously what Blizz decided to do to make hunters more viable in arena. Now we can dispell stuff like BoP and BoF...this makes us insanely useful. Bravo Blizz.

Does anyone know when this should take into effect?

Hunters are gimped in Arenas (and 1-on-1 PvP in general) because of the deadzone. These arcane shot changes, while nice, do nothing to change that.

i personally think this has a lot of use to us.

One thing I've always wondered is how can someone be to close to you to use your gun? A bow I can see, but a gun? I don't get it! You give me no dead zone with a gun, then I'll be hitting the arena.

We really need a good panel to discuss the best reasons for abolishing our dead zone. This way perhaps Blizzard will listen and finally free us from a "fix" from so long ago.

I think the worst thing for hunters in any type of PVP is that the humans controlling the people don't have to pay attention to our pets. If a lock's pet can make me unable to do anything while the succubus is using her spell, then why can't a pet's growl force the human to concentrate on the pet?

Blizzard would never get rid of the hunter dead zone, and I wouldn't want them to, either. It would make the class way too overpowered in PvP. As it is, there are already plenty of ways to keep / get yourself out of the dead zone: concussive shot, intimidation, scatter shot, traps and wing clip to name a couple. It is up to the hunter to keep him/herself out of the deadzone or get out. If you don't have the skill to do that, then you die, simple as that. Warriors and rogues don't get spells to throw their melee weapons at you, why should our ranged weapons work at melee range?

Not to mention Blizzard is actually going to make your minimum range smaller as it is. So stop complaining about wanting the dead zone to go away and start being happy about the buffs you are getting... less QQ
