Patch 2.3 and you: Professions edition
There are a few interesting changes on the horizon of patch 2.3 for the gadget (and explosive) fans among you. The engineers are a long-suffering bunch, and it seems every patch promises engineering improvements, but fails to deliver. In 2.3, at least, we know exactly what we should be getting: flying mounts, as you know about from earlier this evening, and now repair bots. And there's a bit in here for cooks, as well:- And for your dedication, flying mounts for engineers only will be available in patch 2.3. There will be normal and epic versions of this mount for you to parade around and show how proud you are to have passed all the exams and call yourself an engineer. (Bornakk)
- I also heard this rumor that some Gan'arg Analyzers in Blade's Edge Mountains stumbled upon plans of a new Field Repair Bot and are hoarding them for their own purposes. Anybody plan to investigate this in patch 2.3? (Bornakk)
- I saw me one uh them new repair bots! I swears it! It wasn't tweren't not only repairin' items, it was hawkin' wares! I never didn't not did not didn't see nothing not like it never in my life! (Drysc)
- You'll need cooking to be at a relatively high level to complete the cooking daily quests that are coming in 2.3, so I recommend leveling it up. ;-) (Bornakk)

Cooking daily quests??? Engineering flying mounts?
*drops leatherworking*

Unless the cooking quests mean getting an IMPROVED version of the food I turn in, ie MORE spellpower, there's no way I'm handing over a stack of Basilisk Bites.

So when is patch 2.3 supposed to come out? AKA...how long do i have to get my engineering up?
Helly Sep 26th 2007 8:02PM
Great, now not only do I have to cook daily IRL, I have to do it in game too :p

Thinking as a story line, I wish the daily quest was for turn in for Lower City rep after you can't turn in Arakkoka feathers at Honored. I could see it - a bunch of hungry refugees, a master chef cooking up for them... i'd like it.

Seeing how it went before the flying machines will need nethervortexes to build and materials in the 10k gold range.
And new repair bots? Anything wrong with the old ones? Not that anyone needs them anyway these days it seems.

The cooking daily quests were brought up at Blizzcon as the first of profession-based daily quests. Other professions will not doubt get dailies in time as well. Rewards for the cooking quests were more raw foods, new cooking recipes and money if I recall.

Urgh, I have to say that's pretty weak. We blacksmiths should be able to repair items if a ROBOT can do it!

@3 I'm willing to bet you have plenty of time. 2.3 is looking to be one of those massive game-changing uber major patches that generally have quite a long testing period...but you never know

Yea, what's the deal with repair bots? There's already a plan in the game. What more could the new one do? Maybe they could increase the durability beyond the base...like, if an item has 100 durability, it could increase it to 125/100 durability. That would basically just make it so raiders can spend more time in dungeons, but that's the only improvement I can think of.

why are we even talking about 2.3 when 2.2 is a Cluster Fuck ?
can anyone say ragesteel shoulders?

I'm sure that engineering mounts will require an ingredient that you can only get as a 0.001% drop from a 40 man raid.
It's bad enough that the epic helms require a primal nether, which pretty much guarantees that a casual player will never be able to make them.

Unless there is more than a new Repbot (any use outside raids?) and a flying mount (mats? why need another one over my current?) I'll drop engineering in favour of a farming profession. Oh, and more smoke signals in interesting new colours won't count. The absolutely only engineering item I still use are the goggles. That's not a lot in favour of keeping engineering.

Beeee Esss!
Any casual can get a nether as they drop from normal 70 5-mans as well and with 2.3 even the first boss of Kara and the new Zul Aman bosses will drop nethers, so if mr or ms casual cannot do heroics, if they even attempt to go to kara or the new 10 man, they are pretty much guaranteed one sooner or later.
Even my boyfriend's guild can down Attuman and they are all casuals. Their biggest problem is getting to kara with 10 people and that's it. Once inside it is bloody easy for them even if they have all blues.

If I make the bot, why should I have to pay to repair? Shouldn't I get some kind of cut from it being used? The Flying machine, cool, new repair bots MEH!

Once again...naff all for Alchemists..../sigh
Buuty Sep 27th 2007 6:57AM
As an engineering mage, I couldn't be happier with all the class/profession changes.
*laughs giddily*

Man, I almost want to be an Engineer.
Almost.
I don't think I have the patience to go through all that profession-leveling fiddle-faddle, though. I don't even have my original professions at 375 yet.

@9 "I'm willing to bet you have plenty of time. 2.3 is looking to be one of those massive game-changing uber major patches that generally have quite a long testing period...but you never know"
The CMs have stated that due to the delay in releasing 2.2 they have actually had more development time than usual for 2.3 so it should actually clear the PTRs pretty quickly.

Maybe the new repair bot will be one that doesnt get destroyed, you make one and you keep it for good. Maybe instead it has a 2 hour CD or something. The mats would probabaly be hard to get. But that would be awesome.
