Encrypted Text: Rogues, Patch 2.2, and the exploding UI

One of the first and foremost mods that I really feel that I personally absolutely can't live without is some form of HUD. I actually tried running my Rogue on Zangarmarsh without a HUD at first (installed Taeo's UI, which I still think is truly gorgeous) but I found that I'm far too addicted to having my Combo Points up front and center now. I've stuck with Drathal's HUD for a while now, and despite flirting with many others like Arc and Phaytal's, I just haven't broken off from that one as yet. But no matter if your bars are pretty and pointed, blunt and bordered, or just straight lines, having your health, energy and combo points up front and center is good stuff for Rogues.
Another in the list is Omen. I'm sorry KTM, but... I've found another Mod. Our love affair just wasn't meant to last. Omen has really come to fit the bill for me. Sure, it feeds to/from KTM (which I can't express enough gratitude for, because otherwise I wouldn't have half the people I've run with in meters) but when you get into a party with everyone using Omen is when it really shines. It has really become the force-to-be-reckoned-with in terms of threat meters, in my opinion. Unless you're spending all of your time soloing, or you like spending lots of close-and-personal time with the floor, this mod should be in your UI. And speaking of floor time -- for raiding Rogues, Deadly Boss Mods can be a real life-saver. There's nothing quite as shameful as when you wind up eating floor during a boss encounter when it could totally have been avoided with this handy little mod. (And the "pizza timers" thing just cracks me up.)
One I like to have to monitor performance is some form of Damage Meters. For me, I keep SWStats nestled into my FuBar at the top of my screen, and find that it works well for what I'm looking for in an everyday run. I'm also fond of SWStats as I don't have to worry about people being out of range and not being tracked. As with Omen, the more people who use it in your group, the better.
My next "must have" is some form of timer for Sap/Cheap Shot/etc. To that end, I currently use CCwatch, but I'm not married to that choice and am still researching options. It's handy enough, and I don't mind the footprint, but I suspect there are probably some better choices out there so far as having a timer to ensure that you know just when your crowd control will break. The important thing is to have a timer in there -- as with all these other mods, the specific mod you choose is really best determined by what you want your UI to look like, and how much memory you want to expend on your options. (I'm currently sizing up ClassTimer, but just haven't made the jump yet.)
Speaking of what you want your UI to look like, I have to admit, I loaded up my game, found myself staring at the base WoW UI bars the other day and was horrified. I can't remember the last time I saw those gryphons, frankly. With any luck, I won't have to see them again anytime soon, either. I jumped back out, flipped on Bongos and away I went. I'm fond of Bongos primarily because I like lots of scalable buttons being available should I need them. Of course, I'm also all about the "less is more" UI scheme -- you'll notice that on my primary Rogue's UI, I stress keeping as much as I can off the screen at all times. Now this isn't to say that I don't have quite a few mods going (heck, look at all the buttons on the minimap!) but I keep most of them set to where they don't come up unless I'm either in-combat, or in a raid. The rest remain nestled in FuBar and the heck off my screen until I want them there.
![[Yes, this is actually my UI. You can stop laughing now.]](http://www.blogcdn.com/wow.joystiq.com/media/2007/09/krysui_sm.jpg)
So there you have it. A quick and dirty listing of the mods (or types of mods) I couldn't live without as a Rogue. Now this isn't to say it's an end-all-be-all of Rogue moddery by a long shot, but I do know that playing would be a pain in my arse without these few around. What mods do you Rogues feel are ones you absolutely couldn't live without? Leave a comment, and let's compare mod notes!

The timer mod you are looking for is ClassTimer.

You could try using chronometer - tells you how the duration of your sap, cheapshot, garrotte, slice and dice etc. it is probably my most favorite mod.

I really really can't do anything without the default WoW UI myself, I've memorized where every single skill is and put keybindings to most of them and if even 1 of them changes around i get kinda confused, therefore i stick with my lovely pet gryphons on the side ^^
Apart from the UI, I use all the mods mentioned above as a raiding rogue...especially omen :P

For the Particularly lazy, PoisonPouch is a great mod.
Poison both of your weapons thoughtlessly with two right clicks :)

NECB gives timers for those things and more. (That's Natur's Enemy Cast Bar. Noone should be without it IMO)

Still using SWStats? Have you not heard of Recount?!?

Screenshots from the work in progress, there's a new release available now, but a couple other things being added that will make it more user friendly in terms of changing resolutions and not having to move stuff around. I started using this with my rogue, and now use it with my mage, hunter and shaman. Additions are easy to make, the compliation isn't picky about who it plays with... all in all, while it's not necessarily the most artistic setup, it's easily the best addon compilation I've ever used.

i'll second the use of NaturEnemyCastBars.
i separate the bars, and have my stuns and enemy casting bars right below my feet, UI wise, with the others dragged over to the right side of the screen, out of the way.
the one thing it doesn't track is Slice and Dice, which i use DiscoDice for (with about every option except slice and dice disabled), again, positioned right below my feet.

Taeo's UI is really nice, is there a chance that I might be able to download that?

i would suggest the addon "minimap button bag"
it creates a menu on the minimap that hides all the minimap buttons until you actually need them. Keeps clutter to a minimum

What??? No Pitbull???? omg, since i got this mod I would never use another UI, it has everything from threat meters, to combo points showing up, I still use metahud and prolly couldn't live without it but I agree with #6, Recount far outshines any other damage meter

These are the three most useful rogue addons I've found. They all use Ace and are available from files.wowace.com.
Cutup - awesome bundle of rogue tweaks, things like auto-looting when you pick-pocket and disabling the "You do not have enough energy" type messages that appear on your screen when you're spamming keys.
Hemlock - easiest poison manager I've found so far. Adds little icons down the side of the poison vendor screen that you click on to buy/make preset numbers of poisons. No need to open your poison crafting frame.
Fubar_PoisonReminderFu - creates popups that appear when your poisons expire. Clicking on "Reapply" automatically puts the last poison back on. Detects if you're lucky enough to have a WF in the group as well.

I keep trying to tell friends to use Bigwigs over DBM. mainly because you will get Littlewigs to give you announcements and bars and such for some 5man bosses.
I do second the Omen threat meter. great mod. love the lil pull out menu to help me watch the tanks.
ALSO.... recount will own swstats any day

I actually just redid my UI entirely with 2.2.
I am totally onboard with hemlock, Omen, DBM, and NECB.
I'd also add FuBar and Violation to the list though. I prefer Violation because its easy to extend the range and it synchs with DamageMeters and SWStats. FuBar? Well it keeps all these Ace2 mods organized neatly without crowding my minimap...
But I just got the spartanUI, and with my playstyle Bartender3/Bongos2 are both essential. Basically, I spam SS with my mouse as well as any fast reaction macros on a floating button, then everything else is keybound for my left hand. I love closetgnome for my arena vs raiding sets.
The one I love and I need to get again is Autobar. It keeps all your consumables, mounts, and quest items on one bar. And for poisons its great. Right click puts them on your offhand, and left click puts it on your right. Its great for speed.
My UI before our last raid on Weds:

Yo KV - could you make your UI screenshot clickable to a larger size, please? :)
Oblivion Sep 28th 2007 11:12AM
I like the standard WoW UI. I don't have any problems paying attention to my combo points. I actually don't care for HUD mods. Omen, DMM, and ClassTimer are nice. I also like TICK so I know exactly when I'll get energy back. It works out well for timing your opening ambush.
Cedric Sep 28th 2007 12:48PM
None of these Dicer add-ons seem to keep track of Blade Flurry and Adrenaline Rush, unfortunately. I use Slicer for now, which does both (and of course, SnD, which is the most important talent to keep up all the time, so I want a big bar for that).
Would be nice to have an add-on that cumulates all of these and make them configurable (e.g. I never use Expose Armor, so I want to be able to disable its tracking).
Evil M Sep 28th 2007 2:28PM
since 2.2 I've become even more of a devotee of the Ace2 mods. Between the Cutup compilation, Roguespam (ancient but effective mod for those out of energy messages), Recount, Bongos, SCT and a few other cosmetic ones.
I find that if you stick with the Ace library it's much easier to configure because of Rock, which orders the / configuration options for each mod into a nice organized list.

That really is a good looking HUD, I have yet to find one that I liked, I think ill try it...THANKS!

I agree that NECB is a wonderful timer mod.
@8 NECB does in fact time Slice & Dice. I used it just yesterday. It may be a new feature introduced recently, I don't know.
