WoW's own Headless Horseman
Patch 2.2.2 (currently on the PTRs) doesn't just feature Oktoberfest... er, I mean Brewfest event -- there are also some changes to the regular Hallow's End event, in the form of a daily quest to summon the Headless Horseman from inside the Scarlet Monastery graveyard. And the Horseman isn't just here to celebrate the occasion -- MMO-Champion reports he also has an epic loot table featuring both useful gear and toys. On the useful side, there's a DPS caster ring, a healer ring, a physical DPS ring, and a DPS plate helm. But more interestingly, he can also drop broom mounts of four types, one for each level of riding skill. The downside? Your new cool broom mount is single-use only.

"single use" as in 14days duration.
Steve Sep 28th 2007 7:22AM
No I think it's just one use like the holly for reindeer mounts. But if you notice, it's not unique so farm the crap out of them!
Simon Sep 28th 2007 7:51AM
And there is no mentioning of "Outland-only", so ...
Simon Sep 28th 2007 7:52AM
... then again, it doesn't say anything about being a flying-mount either ... doh ...

Actually Flying Broom on the screenshot below shows it IS flying mount. The screenshot comes from WoW forums post about Headless Horseman (link is in the original post).

Read the article. It said 4 different drops, one for each riding skill. So that means a rare and epic ground broom as well as a rare and epic flying mount. You can only fly in BC, so just having it be flying would ruin some of the fun in Ironforge.

@5
Yes, but it's also the "Flying Broom" and requires (225) Riding skill. The (75) and (150) are just "Magic Brooms" as the screenshot with the article shows.

blizzard = asshats. Just let us have the stupid broom... is it going to kill you for crying out loud?!?!
Angelus Sep 28th 2007 1:11PM
@7 you're the asshat. what would be the f%^&*n' point of just giving players gear. write your own game and give yourself all the stupid loot you want.

How about a link to how I summon this guy..
Elizabeth Harper Sep 28th 2007 2:51PM
Well, as I said, there are four different broom mounts, one for each skill level. The two I happened to use in my screenshot are for skill levels 75 and 150, so they're both "ground" mounts. (My guess is that they'll hover slightly off the ground.)
However, there are also brooms for skill levels 225 and 300. In their item description, these are "flying brooms" instead of "magic brooms" and they do have an Outland-only note on them. You can see these in the full loot screenshot from MMO-Champion.

So is this guy soloable or do you need 5 lvl 70s?
BartmanDK Sep 28th 2007 6:50PM
Never mind saw the screenshot! :D
xgx Sep 28th 2007 8:53PM
actually, the mount is usable as many times as you want over the 14 day duration. i have one on the PTR and i used it many many times last night.
lordfrikk Sep 29th 2007 2:26AM
@6 You're right, my mistake.
Actually I went to the PTR yesterday to check it out myself, there were like 50+ people crowded in front of SM Gy portal:)
I ran the instance 7 times and never won the broom .-. I've seen people hovering on it around Tirisfal Glades, though:)

"single-use" = "utterly useless crap"
I hope you're satisfied, having spent _our_ money to develop this shite, Blizzard.

Ya, I'm a little disappointed that it's not at least a 5- or 14-day duration. What's the point in a single-use? Get one or two nice screenshots, and the first time you accidentally touch down, poof!

so if its flyable in Azerath then try fly it to Northrend in the new expansion...i wish though
