Breakfast Topic: Should every class get their own flying mount?
Player Mennonite of Aman'Thul is a warlock with a burning desire. He wants a warlock-only summonable flying mount. Druids get one, why not warlocks? Warlocks already have a class-specific land mount. Is it such a stretch to extend that idea to a flying mount?Community Manager Bornakk replied to Mennonite that Blizzard has plans for more flying mounts like the upcoming Engineering and Cenarion Expedition faction ones coming in Patch 2.3. However, he added, none of the future ones planned are class specific.
But what if Warlocks did get one? Then, why not every class? Why not a Pegasus for Paladins, clouds of magic for Mages or shimmering angel wings for Priests? What do you think? Should every class get their own flying mount or is that just a perk for the Druids?

Unless they offer a good lore reason, I say no. Druid Flight Form is all based in Lore (and something they should have had a lot earlier). Dreadsteeds and Paladin chargers are also well set in lore.
What I would like to see are more racial mounts. For example, I think the Hippogryph should he the default NE fling mount, same with bats. Gnomes are getting one in the form of the Gyrothopter, Humans and dwarves kinda share Griffins, and so on.

I've always thought it odd that warlocks summon their felsteeds and dreadsteeds, but still mount their fliers manually. Seems like it would be just as easy to pull a flaming demonic owl or something from the Twisting Nether, given that you can go to any ledge in Outland and look down into it.

Ooooo, I can get behind that. Sign my priest up for some of those wings. Looking like an angel of vengeance dropping from the sky would be very cool. If shadowformed, would be even cooler if the wings turn black.
Cool idea!

More mounts, of any variety, are a good thing.
What you ride on is a statement of who your in-game character is.
Riding a PvP mount states that you love to PvP, and are good at it.
Riding a Netherdrake shows you have an incredible amount of commitment to Questing.
Riding a Phoenix shows that you, sir, are a HARDCORE raider.
And one of those ghost tiger things just lets everyone know you have too much money.
In my opinion, mounts are a lot like tabards or "pets". They are mostly there to look cool, so why not have a bazillion and one options?
Long live Individuality!

Well, if you're going to talk about class specific mounts, then as a hunter I'd like to know why I can't tame a mount. I can tame a pet to fight with me, it stands to reason that I should be able to tame a larger pet to ride around on.

give those clouds for my mage pls!!
No seriously, i dont think that every class should get a specific mount, but every race should get different one, and i dont understand why they didnt that from the first place. I would love to see rase specific mounts. Also i would love to see a change on Flying mounts, 60% speed for the small is a stupid idea, what about 100% flying speed and 60% for ground? and the epic one stays as it is, I think is a good idea, what about you guys?

race even >.

Warlocks and Pallies got land mounts because they don't have teleports, astral recall, aspect of the cheetah, travel form, sprint, etc. To me, I would think it would be fair for them to get a flying mount as well, although perhaps the rogue should be given something as well since sprint doesn't seem like it's really enough to compete with what other classes have to travel with.

Yeah, the favorite thing about my priest is my travel form.
Orestes Oct 2nd 2007 8:29AM
Personally, I'd love to see questable flying mounts for Pallies and Warlocks.

I say no one else gets class specific flying mounts!!!
(70 Druid, Malygos)
,but seriously as soon as I got to 68 my guild was complaining about my nearly free flying mount, and I did feel a little guilty since my friends had to pay that much for something I got for free.
The hunters should be able to tame their own flying mounts, now that woud be cool.

Pallies and locks already summon their land mounts - I say implement that with their flying counterparts.
Each race, as well as many factions, have specific ground mounts, and I say follow that up with flying mounts as well.
When priests are in shadow form, their mounts automatically become 75% more badass, so other classes should get that as well (fire mages could of course have their mount ensorceled in flame, much like Al'ar). I think "magic clouds" for mages would be a tad too fruity and lame.
As nether drakes become less and less uncommon by the day, the demand for more unique and glamorous mounts increases. Hats off to Blizz for realizing this and beginning to put in more, but we're still a ways away from exactly what this post addresses.

...and to #8, run through either class's epic mount chain at proper level then come back and tell us if you still think the mounts were "given" to them.
Jay Oct 2nd 2007 8:41AM
How about Warriors get something for a change. Since we are like the only class that blizzard hates and never gives us anything buy nerfs.
jappaex Oct 2nd 2007 11:42AM
Hunters should be able to tame their own mounts...whats the point in taming a giant bird if i cant even ride it??? (we ahve been saying this for a long....long....time)
Lizardking63 Oct 2nd 2007 8:50AM
Ya...is there some connection between the fact that Warriors and Priests are the two classes that have no benefits to travel and yet, they are the two most difficult classes to find for groups? Hmmmmm?
Dorthonian Oct 2nd 2007 10:02AM
Hope the new CE mount will be a flying Blacksting.

This is over all a bad idea, that is to have more class mounts. It doesn't make sense for a Paladin to have a Pegasus, they aren't a part of the canon lore. Nor are angel wings for priest, this is one thing I'm glad that Blizzard has turned down constantly as it should not be offered without good reason. Who knows maybe in the future they may make a lore reason to give mages some magical way to hover, but overall it just isn't in there at this time.

I'm very disappointed a Bat Flying Mount hasn't been added to the Horde side. I think the Wyverns look great as do the Gryphons but I feel Bats/Hippogryphs as an alternative was always an oversight.
I'm disappointed that oversight still hasn't been corrected.
The Troll in me would love a Bat mount (WC3 Bat Riders anyone? Oh yes please) but more than anything, I'm still hoping for some more variety with the 100% mounts.
Lets think about it, currently Blizzard have no plans to let you use flying mounts in Battlegrounds or 'Old' Azeroth. Hell even in Northrend there will be some sort of limit (Level 78 currently in Blizzard's mind they've said) to when we can use flying mounts.
To be the 100% ground mounts are still important and they really lack diversity. The really interesting mounts are all also exceptionally rare: Baron's Mount, ZG Raptor+Tiger, the Epic Druid Questchain Mount drop, etc.
I've always loved the Kodo, and having been Horde side for most of my WoW life I never had any issues getting one. But I actually started out on Alliance side and the fact I could simply *never* get a Kodo was quite disheartening. I realise from a lore point of view there is no reason why Horde mounts would readily be used by Alliance (And vice-versa) but I don't see any harm in adding more variety. It's not like there isn't a valid reason one race can't ride a particular mount (Bar the sensible reason Tauren can't ride certain mounts for example)
I've always wanted the ZG Tiger as
1/Tigers are second only to Kodos in my love of Azeroth beasts.
2/As a Troll (Jungle Trolls backgrounds, as in ZG, are made up of Raptors AND Tigers) they look awesome together.
Now I'm not saying just add another rare mount, not at all, I think it's nice we have some rare mount drops because they are simply something very special and a nice thing for someone to show off. That said: Moar mounts please! I wants mah Tiger! :(

Sure I would love more "fluff" - stuff that has no mechanical impact (although pallie and warlock has a minor mechanic - no item req bag space) but overall, I would rather see those programmers working on added flying mount to the old world.
