Brewfest Issues [Updated]

Brewfest is currently live in Oceania and the U.S. and so far there have been some issues:
Brewfest didn't start on time.
The setup crew appeared when patch 2.2.2 went live, but the event didn't go live until midnight. Unfortunately for some servers, it didn't go live then as well. It seems that if your realm time is different from the timezone where the server resides, your Brewfest will go live according to the server location time and not the realm time. For example, U.S. East Coast servers that are located on the West Coast had their Brewfests begin at 3am.
The ticket rewards were too high.
Drysc explains:
It appears that quite a few of the hotfixes originally intended to go out with 2.2.2 were not applied properly as the patch went out with the maintenance today. Many of these hotfixes are now being pushed out.
You should now get 2 tickets for each keg you return for the keg delivery quest.
"Bark for the Barleybrews!" quest reward should be 15 tickets.
"There and Back Again" quest reward should be 10 tickets.
"Pink Elekks on Parade" quest reward should be 40 tickets.
You should be limited to 25 "keg protector" buffs.
It doesn't come with a manual.
There is some confusion as to what to do and why Dark Irons are attacking. Tapper Swindlekeg at the entrance to the Orgrimar Brewfest on the Horde side will tell you much of what you need to know. For the Alliance, chat with Ipfelkofer Ironkeg at the Ironforge Brewfest.
You don't get a free stein at the entrance.
You get free beer, but not a free stein. In order to get the stein you must complete the Ram Racing quest and then get a ticket for a souvenir stein. Only then can you drink the beers from the massive kegs at the fest.
Some of the quests may be bugged.
Some people were saying that the Wolpertinger quest may be bugged, but they also may not have been drunk enough. Hopefully that is the case. Let us know if you've had any issues with the quests.
[Update: Both Aeus and Nethaera have announced that Blizzard is looking into the bugged quests and items. Though the Wolpertinger quest seems to be working fine (get more drunk!), the Elekk quest can't be picked up by everyone and there are other issues.
Things to try:
- Many of the quests are dailies, so if you do them once you can't do them again until the next day.
- Doing the Ram Races opens up other opportunities, so make sure you get that done at least once.
- Wave at the Barmaids to get your free sampler mugs to throw at the Dark Iron Dwarves!

Still underwhelming

i have completed the Wolpertinger quest on live. works fine, just drink more. it stinks with the nerf to the rate at which we earn tickets, its going to be nearly impossible to earn 600 in the 2 weeks brewfest is advertised to be here for the mount.

on Medivh we've noticed some people cannot get the Pink Eelek quest, and other people can get the Barker quest, but it will not work. I've asked a GM, they are aware of the issue, but don't have an exact ETA on a fix. I hope these are minor. I want the tickets!
it appears the daily quests net about 65 tickets a day- enough to do get the Ram in 10 days, plus a pair of shoes. a few Dark Irons and you can probably get a jerkin as well in that time. The event goes 14 days... so it looks well balanced. People won't likely be riding this thing tommorrow.

I have talked to a GM on US-Wildhammer, and he verified that they were aware of the glitched quests and were working on fixing them. Some people are unable to accept the pink elekks quest and many people can not loot the bottles to throw at the dark iron dwarves.
xzor Oct 3rd 2007 4:17AM
oh, and in order to loot the brewfest samplers, you need to /wave at one of the barkers. it doesnt seem to work if you just try to loot from the tables.

Regarding the "start" of the event for EU Servers, does anyone know whether it will be available as soon as the maintenance is completed or from midnight tonight (and run until 17 October)?
Fingers crossed for a bug-free release in Europe - thanks to the US players for being guinea pigs for us ;)

on our server (Aman'thul) with the bark for barleybrew quest nothing is happening when you go by the flags

I'm a gnome on Kel'thuzad and I'm unable to get the Pink Elekk quest... which sucks, because it offers all those tickets.
Hoping for a fix soon...

yeah, with the new dailys starting again, the quests are now bugged on Medivh.

I'm sorry but isn't this what the PTR was for? to test out this **** before it went live? why are there issues?
PTR's need to turn into selective/invite only areas to reward those that actually *gasp* test content, not mess around with gear they'll most likely never get.

@9: Whilst I agree with your point, it appears that the issues being experienced with this patch are serious enough that they should have been picked up by any half-competent system test team well before they made it even to the PTR. The PTR is for "user testing", and should be about find situational and minor defects, not major event-breaking problems like these.
Having said that, Drysc's post implies the issue may lie with the (soon to be sacked) deployment team, not fully patching all the realms with the myriad hotfixes required. Without wishing to be over critical, it points again to a lack of system engineering professionalism at Blizzard - I wonder if they ever bothered testing the deployment to a non-Public server before embarking on this week's maintenance cycle.
Hopefully they'll review their internal processes and tighten things up for future patches. Sure, people are unlikely to cancel their accounts for reasons like this, so it shouldn't affect the bottom line, but customer satisfaction should be a consideration even for Blizzard.

I was able to get the Pink Elekk quest onmy 43 Mage, but not my 70 Rogue. Nor am I able to repeat the keg delivery on both chars, even after the daily counter reset :( Don't really care about the rams, just want the attire.

It looks to me like they pushed the thing out before it was fully ready, because of time constraints in Azeroth. My guess is that they started working on the Brewfest content without giving themselves enough time to test/patch before it was supposed to go live.
And once their foots in the trap, what is Bliz supposed to do? They could announce that Brewfest wasn't ready and delay the content for a whole year, or they could just release it with bugs and hope they can patch them in time to let everyone enjoy the content at some point.
Of course I'd prefer to have Brewfest released bug-free, but I'd rather have it out there with a few minor bugs then not have it at all. I can't pick up my mug, but I managed to get happily wasted and go hunting for imaginary beasties regardless.

Being a dwarf, I do want the mount. However, a buggy "fun" event is more tolerable than a buggy content patch. I'm sure the folks getting significant class changes in 2.3 would rather that PTR come up rather than waste time on 2.2.2 testing.

I can't get the pink elekk quest simply because I can't find it. Who, horde side, is supposed to give that quest?
I really hope it's just me being stupid and not finding it instead of it being bugged and me not being able to do it.
Akiotena Oct 3rd 2007 6:45AM
@4: Thank you so much for posting that tip--I was having the problem of not being able to loot 'em, and now I can after /wave-ing. I must have totally missed that somewhere, or they didn't put it in, or *something*! :)
Lios Oct 3rd 2007 7:25AM
Hmm, they haven't nerfed it at my EU server. I get 5 tickets per keg for the ram racing. Hope they will forget about that hotfix for a little longer... two weeks longer preferably :-)

The Bark for the Brewfest quest is bugged on basicly every Oceanic Realm making it impossible to complete.
Bachus Oct 3rd 2007 7:34AM
Yea, /wave at the Brewmaidens standing next to the tables. They'll throw a mug at you and automatically throw another mug at you when you drink. The mugs only last 15 minutes, and can't be gotten immediately after a Dark Iron attack (as the kegs are gone temporarily).
The attacks happen every hour. Just target a Dark Iron and drink your complimentary mug. You'll get more drunk and throw it. You get a stacking buff for each Dark Iron you hit. It only stacks to 25. Talk to the ticket NPC afterwards to get your tickets (one per buff stack). After an attack check the middle of the camp for a piece of paper that gives a quest to go to the Grim Guzzler in BRD. This quest is also bugged. When you first enter BRD if you don't see a tunneler and some dark iron dwarves immediately to your right, exit and reset the entrance. It may take a few tries. The NPC in the Grim Guzzler will give you another quest that gives you an off-hand mug (yes, you can dual wield booze!).
The Dark Iron attack is easily one of the most fun events ever in WoW. You *have* to participate at least once. And be sure to do the BRD after-quest, as it adds a nice bit of lore to the whole Brewfest holiday.
The Pink Elekk quest is horribly bugged. The vast majority of characters can't even start it. It seems to be based on how old your character is.
Ram Racing works fine. Use the apple buckets and keep your speed up and you can get a good 10 deliveries in for 20 tickets.
The Barker quests are bugged, but doable. You have to get back to the original quest giver and turn it in before the time is up or you fail it.
The Wolpertinger quest seems to be working just fine. Get as smashed as possible to see the bunnies. Then target and use the net item to "stun" em. The NPC that gives you this quest also gives you the Elekk quest, so if he doesn't have the quest it's bugged for you.

With the quests available and the invasions, I netted about 110 tickets last night.
For the keg run, I found if you just barely brush the side of the bushel of apples, it should be good enough... In that case, make sure you hit every bushel, and just wail on your reins.. From that alone, I got no fewer than twenty tickets before diminishing returns took me down.
The barker quest works fine for me, it was just frustratingly difficult trying to get to the Valley of Spirits, situated where it is, and then hit the other three valleys, and then make it back. I was successful on my second 'real' try, but with only a scant two seconds left. My advice: Keep at canter speed and wend your way to the Valley of Spirits first, and then work clockwise back to the flags by the bank, and once you have the final quest objective complete, -immediately- cancel the ram buff and mount your %100 mount, and ensure that you have your riding crop equipped.
Wolpertinger was just about the easiest quest I could imagine. I just got blitzed on the strong ogre booze and I was netting jackalop... er.. wolpertingers just like that.
After every Dark Iron invasion (occurs every hour at half-past, ie: 12:30, 1:30, etc) look for plans on the ground (hard to miss) that opens a quest that sends you off to BRD, to the Grin Guzzler specifically. Plenty of people are going to be wanting to go, so take the time to drop in.. The reward is some dark iron ale and a blue off-hand stein with what looks like the demonslaying enchant that has a use (on a thirty minute cooldown) that makes you as drunk as can be.
As for the invasions themselves, past posts are correct - just /wave at a barker (and just once, for the love of god. People spamming /wave because 'it looks funny to see so many mugs bounce off of my head' netted no fewer than a dozen /ignore's) and then move the item you receive to a hotbar. Once the dwarves invade, just start targeting and wailing on them w/ the mugs.. Twenty-five tickets an hour ain't terrible.
As for the pink elekks quest, I don't yet know where to start it - or if it starts actually at the Brewfest camp, then it was indeed unavailable to me as a level 70.
