More Brewfest brouhaha
While some Brewfest events are hotfixed, others are stubbornly refusing to work without a full server restart. Community Manager Drysc spells it on a late night forum post. The short version, for those whose eyes aren't up to extensive reading after last night's festivities, is this:- Dark Iron attacks are disabled for now. The large number of people using the /wave emote during the twice hourly event was causing many to crash repeatedly.
- Blizzard will reinstate the attacks before Brewfest is over as soon if they figure out a work around to the crashing problem..
- Ticket rewards for other Brewfest activities have been increased to compensate for the lack of Dark Iron generated tickets. The Barking quest reward increases from 15 to 40 and the Keg Delivery quest increases each keg to 3 tickets (and can be done every 12 hours.)
- Until the Dark Iron attacks are brought back, "Complimentary Brewfest Samplers" acquired by /waving are disabled (confirming the /wave emote/crashing problem)
- Brewfest Goggles which were implemented with a temporary duration, will be permanent. A duration timer will show until the next patch, but can be ignored.
- No /wave or emote is necessary to complete the Barker quest. Just be on the Riding Ram and pass close enough to the flags.
- In a separate thread, it was confirmed that the Pink Elekk's quest is NOT a daily quest. Some players were able to do it twice due to a one-time reset.

The /wave was a bad idea. It wasn't causing me personally to crash, but it was so irratating when people macro spammed it that throughout the afternoon I ignored about 30 people.

This has all been a bit of a cock-up really. Makes me wonder why they actually bother with QA for patches at all. Just send the patches live and let the people paying for the game bug test for you as well.

Which is why they never should've re-enabled pre-made characters on the PTR. 99% of the people on the PTR get on it to screw around on a level 70 character in Tier 6, they have no intention whatsoever of testing the content or bug fixes and thus make the PTR pretty much worthless.

Now without the dark iron attacks, brewfest is a ghost town. It's even more noticeable now that there's really not much to do with it. After the initial quests, you go do the barking and the keg delivery quest and that's it. Most people were there or mainly participating in the dark iron quest but when you think of it there's not much else to the event.
Could use with the Elekks quest becoming either a daily or a 12h quest, more reasons to go to the other cities' beer gardens (e.g., the dark iron attacks happen at all cities, so you can spread out and avoid the huge crowds outside your main city), and maybe another quest or two.

I was just wondering. For characters beow level 40, can they still get the riding ram quest object and start the quest at level 40 to get a ram?
Tekkub Oct 4th 2007 6:11AM
And to think, the wave would have never been needed if the mugs were lootable, did NOONE test those?
I personally am hitting up the fest on my alts for the +10% EXP buff. Kinda sucks it's only twice a day, for my leveling partner that puts the buffs while he's in bed and at work. Every 6hr or even 4hr would be better. Not like having a buff (which you have to travel to get) for 2 of every 4 hours would be a big "exploit"... considering the EXP rate changes coming in the future are probably going to be at least 10%, if not greater.

@5 From what I've read, yes they can get the item, just not use it till 40. Problem is the ram vendor is most likely seasonal, so if you don't hit 40 before the event is over, you'll have to wait a year to buy that mount.

So has the barking quests been fixed? on my server (outland-eu) they where bugged all day yesterday!
Kujo Oct 4th 2007 6:16AM
Thank GOD they're doing something about the /wave thing.
Ok, I will admit it. The first time I saw someone spam it. It was funny. I laughed.
However, the 15-20 others who decided to be just as haphazardly humorous at the same time really ruined it. I couldn't talk to my guild for the spam of emotes going on. That, not so bad.
My ping going sky-high (although the server never crashed) during the dwarf invasion event sucked.

Goddamnit, you don't need to do /wave all the time, just don't move too far away and he'll throw a new one when you drink it! Thanks to the dumb people it's disabled now... :(

Worst event ever!

I hung out in the Brewfest all last night and a few times the /wave caused many people to crash. Overall though I think the brewfest is fun. The quests should be repeatable like every 12 hours though.
Buuty Oct 4th 2007 8:08AM
I must say, I did not experience any of the mentioned problems. Brewfest is AWESOME!
I was able to so all the quests and participate in all the Dark Iron invasions, averaging about 19 buffs per invasion. I had 105 tickets in about 4 hours last night.
Plus, the Gnome King came and tapped a special keg...
people were vomiting everywhere...
there were lots of orbs of deception, ogre costumes, dancing bear druids, naked night elves, Wolpertinger pets, and tons of rams running around...and of mugs flying through he air....add the music and background commotion and this was the perfect event, in my opinion.
Just...awesome.
Vestras Oct 4th 2007 8:28AM
tried it out last night on my mage, and made 50 tickets in about 30 mins.
The main quest I can't do is the Barker. The quest text is no help what so ever. I mean who would think to use a wave emote while riding. The hot fix should resolve that.
I too wonder about the ram quest. I REALLY want a ram for one of my alts, but she's only level 26. I don't have time to get her to 40 AND get 600 tickets...sigh.
Still, I think this is a great event, and I have't had that much fun in a long while!
Michel Oct 4th 2007 8:39AM
it was a great event
too bad some people managed to crashed it..
I didn't know the /wave thing.
Ian Oct 4th 2007 8:48AM
Well considering that on Shattered Halls - EU the Barker quests are completely broken (nothing happens whatsoever, and we had tonnes of people spamming /bark, /yell and everything else to no effect), the disabling of the Dark Iron Dwarves attacks means there is no way I'll get my 600 tickets now. Unless they fix the Barker quests as well....
Sylythn Oct 4th 2007 8:51AM
You all do realize there are options for the chat window - you can turn off the channel that has it show emotes. Granted /wave was crashing the server - but if you're annoyed with seeing it and messing up your chat window, just disable viewing emotes in that window.
KaonNemesis Oct 4th 2007 8:59AM
Barking quests still don't work, on my server at least (US-Bloodhoof)...
Todd Oct 4th 2007 8:59AM
I guess I'm not experiencing any of these problems on my server.
I can loot the mugs on the table. Even more so, when I get a mug, drink and toss, I'm immediately tossed another one by a nearby barmaid. No need to wave.
I'm thrilled that the new goggles will be permanent. A much bigger deal than a mount, imho.
Charlie Taylor Oct 4th 2007 9:09AM
Great, now the barking quests are broken.
Really though, as an Alliance I could care less about the Racing Ram, I'm just happy I got my goggles! :D
