Phat Loot Phriday: Black Bow of the Betrayer

You want a bow that will make people sit up and say "whoah?" You want a bow with a neat mana proc? You want a bow that requires a really, really good PvE guild to get? Here you go.
Name: Black Bow of the Betrayer
Type: Epic Ranged Bow (where are the Legendary Ranged weapons, by the way?)
Damage/Speed: 201-374 / 3.00 (95.8 DPS)
Abilities:
Getting Rid of It: As far as I can possibly tell, no one has. But maybe there's a guild out there who has Illidan on farm, and just doesn't need it any more. In that case, it's the usual Void Crystal, or 10g 82s 33c if sold to a vendor.

Type: Epic Ranged Bow (where are the Legendary Ranged weapons, by the way?)
Damage/Speed: 201-374 / 3.00 (95.8 DPS)
Abilities:
- Increases attack power by 26, always very nice
- On Equip: Succesful melee or ranged attacks will grant 8 mana and if possible drain 8 mana from the target. That's incredible-- it's basically 40-45 mana per five seconds, which allows any Hunter to keep up their DPS for almost twice as long as normal.
- And if you want even more mana, there is a set of mail gloves created by Blacksmiths (dropped by Moam in AQ, I believe) called Black Grasp of the Destroyer that have the exact same proc. And while I haven't tried it out in game, I'm told that the effects of both stack. So with both the gloves and the bow, you'll never need mana again!
- If only Shamans could equip bows...

if only blizzard allowed us to dual weild bows :)
Rorani Oct 5th 2007 6:24PM
¡that bow looks sooooo awsome!

You shouldn't showcase loot from high end raiding instances in Phat Loot Phriday. It just makes me want to quit the game.
The chance of any average player ever getting that bow before the expansion comes out is very very close to zero, statistically speaking. I would say 1% of all WoW players will ever have a chance at it, and even that is ridiculously optimistic.
I thought the point of Phat Loot Phriday was to showcase otherwise overlooked loot that might be useful in regular play? Color me increasingly uninterested in Phat Loot Phriday if you keep putting up more of the same.

It's PHAT loot fool, go back to Kara and stop crying.
nailPuppy Oct 5th 2007 6:45PM
@3 I agree.

That's a bad ass looking bow...
Like Mike said a couple weeks ago, he's damn if he does and damn if he doesn't. Either its "Show something casuals can get" or "that's not Phat enough"
Karl Oct 5th 2007 6:53PM
I would absolutely love to DE this in front of my friend...the very thought makes my day a happier one. Thanks Mike.

This column is for good loot. When I see some blue drop from BRD in here I get annoyed... This column gives us something to strive for.

How about a Husky Loot Tuesday? Or a Big Boned Loot Wednesday? You know, for us casuals who are also interested in such things. :)
Mike Schramm Oct 5th 2007 7:11PM
I usually mix it up (and yeah, when I go high or low end, I get complaints on both-- no worries). Next week, I'll be sure to do a nice something for casuals to grab. Complainers, start writing your "this isn't phat enough" complaints for next week, tia.
Ugkul Oct 5th 2007 7:54PM
Sheesh quit whining. It's either 'this loot isn't phat enough' and now it's 'this loot is TOO phat!' Wake up to the fact that uber guilds are getting this kind loot, and it'll all look pretty sucky when WotLK comes along anyhow.
Anyway my vote for next phat loot: [Brewfest Pony Keg]

wow thats a sick bow, id put it on my warrior just cuz it looks awesome lol
Charlie Taylor Oct 5th 2007 9:06PM
Wow, that not only does that thing look freaking awesome, that proc is hella cool. And not just for hunters!!! Imagine a mage, lock (can they use bows? I dunno) who runs out of mana too soon (extended fight, whatever) just pop this baby out for a little bit, skill up your bow skill and regain some mana at the same time! Ok, not too efficient, but it still would be handy, you never know.
Charlie Oct 5th 2007 10:18PM
there are rumors of an legendary bow in the works for 2.3 in sunwell.
Boonie Oct 6th 2007 5:16AM
@9 You sir/madam have amused me all day.
As a possible way too annoy everyone equally... we could alternate weekly between phat and husky loot.
As a VERY casual player I would like to thanks you for showcasing the High end loot to show what I could get if I set my mind too it... it's like watching the olympics... if I ACTUALLY worked out and ran I too could earn a gold medal or a Black Bow of the Betrayer... so as someone who'll never wield half the toys you show us each week (partly because I'm a pally and partly because I play like once or twice a week...) thank you for letting us loot that Blizzard have worked on making 'phat' but not OP... unlike 'locks... isn't that right Nyhm!

@13..
you're pretty dumb.
Jazradel Oct 6th 2007 5:41AM
Looks awesome, but it's a little slow for my tastes. As good as the proc is, I suspect your better off getting a faster gun with better stats and using fel mana pots.
Theserene Oct 6th 2007 7:55AM
@13 - Have you actually played this game?
4STR4STALeatherBelt Oct 6th 2007 8:21AM
@ 14
Not a rumour. No confirmation on WHEN or WHERE it's coming but a Legendary Bow IS on the way. They've even posted to lower Hunter fear that Rogues and Warriors will want it over Hunters.
Oh and love the featured Item, but as any decent Hunter will tell you: By the time you're raiding Illidan you'll have a Mana pool that doesn't need this proc. Get Bristleblitz from Archimonde, slightly better when you discount the Mana proc. That said any Marksman Hunters (And seriously, any decent raiding guild shouldn't have any of them) left could benefit greatly from the Proc due to the fact they burn Mana like no tomorrow.
J0ust Oct 6th 2007 1:22PM
Just to clear something up; the mana proc on this bow and Black Grasp of the Destroyer *do not* stack.
Research FTW (thank you, Wowhead)
