Leveling improvements for Patch 2.3
Are you in the midst of leveling a character between 20 and 60? Well right now is the time to stop everything, rush over to this forum post from Blizzard, and sing a happy song while you hurry up and wait! That's right, in answer to the crying pleas of casual alt-oholics everywhere, Blizzard is finally speeding up the tedious leveling curve for old world content in patch 2.3, adding in a bunch of new quests, nerfing a lot of the nastiest bad guys, and buffing a whole bunch of the items they drop.
Here's a summarized list of the changes, with the full post by Vaneras copied for you beyond the link below.

Here's a summarized list of the changes, with the full post by Vaneras copied for you beyond the link below.
- Amount of experience needed to level reduced by 15% per level between 20 and 60.
- Experience gained from completing quests increased between levels 30 and 60.
- Outdoor elite quests will now now be soloable, with the same (or better) rewards.
- About 60 new quests and a new goblin town based in Dustwallow Marsh (levels 30 to 40)
- Level ranges for old dungeons to be narrowed down a bit (so that if you are high enough to start them, you are high enough to finish them too)
- Increased questing experience for dungeon quests.
- Buffed up item drops from dungeon bosses.
As many of you already know we've been working on changes designed to improve various aspects of leveling for those making their way to level 60. These improvements, available in patch 2.3 will come in many forms and should significantly contribute to a more fluid and enjoyable leveling experience .I have a couple of characters I've been wanting to work on right around the level 25 to 30 range, so I'm one of those happy customers in a prime position to take advantage of this new system. If it turns out to be as good as it seems, then this may make the game much more enjoyable for those of us who really like to try out all the different classes and get to know different play styles very well.
The first notable change was to simply reduce the amount of experience needed each level by approximately 15% between levels 20 and 60. Please note that when the patch is released, characters affected by this change will remain at their current level percentage. For example, if a character had exactly 50% of the current level's total experience before this change went into effect, the character would still have exactly 50% of the current level's total experience; only now fewer points would be needed to level.
Questing plays a very large role in World of Warcraft, especially while leveling and we felt that improvements to this front were necessary as well. Experience gained for completing quests (on average) between levels 30 and 60 is being increased. The increase becomes more substantial as you make your way towards 60. Additionally, many outdoor elite mobs will become non-elites, making many quests which were previously too difficult or required a group much easier and offer the same rewards (in some cases better!). A good example of this change would be Stromgarde Keep in Arathi Highlands, which will become a solo friendly environment when patch 2.3 goes live.
We've also added approximately 60 new quests in Dustwallow Marsh. This should help players who find themselves lacking quests in the 30-40 range. The Steamwheedle Cartel is building the new town of Mudsprocket in south-west Dustwallow Marsh, so you'll have to wait until construction is complete to learn more about these changes.
We're making other improvements to pre-bc leveling dungeons that players will likely find most agreeable. The level range for most every dungeon is being adjusted so that there is a much smaller range between the level of mobs found early in the dungeon to those found towards the end. For example, Shadowfang Keep is currently designed for levels 18-25 which means that right now, players who are towards the bottom of that range (18) will find it nearly impossible to complete the dungeon, while players towards the top of the range (25) will find most of the dungeon trivial. Using our new model (similar to what you'll notice with Burning Crusade leveling dungeons), Shadowfang Keep is being retuned for levels 18-21.
We also want to make running a leveling up dungeon more worth while. In addition to increasing quest experience for dungeon quests, we're also upgrading all pre-bc dungeon boss drops to blue quality items. Some examples are listed below:
Ragefire Chasm
Robe of Evocation old: +3 Stamina, + 4 Intelligence
Robe of Evocation new: +4 Stamina, +5 Intelligence, and +5 Spell Critical Strike Rating
Deadmines
Smite's Reaver old: +2 Strength, +1 Stamina, +1 Spirit, 11.1 dps
Smite's Reaver new: +2 Strength, +3 Stamina, +2 Hit Rating, 14.5 dps
Shadowfang Keep
Robes of Arugal old: +3 Agility, +5 Stamina, +9 Intelligence, +10 Spirit
Robes of Arugal new: +3 Spirit, +5 Stamina, +9 Intelligence, +12 Spell Damage
As you can see there is much in-store for the next major content patch, particularly a number of changes designed to benefit players who are leveling a character. Though we've given you a few examples of the things to come, we think everyone will pleasantly surprised when they see the full extent of the changes discussed above.

What you've gotta ask yourself is - will the AH prices go up or down? Their may be more people grinding, to get the normal items, plus the new items, so prices should drop. Or will the prices go up because people know their are alot of twinks willing to pay 50s for something really only worth 10s. Just 5 secs work to a level 70 char, or upto 120 kills for a low level?
This could really damage lower level non-twinks ability to easily get the same stuff they could have got on patch 2.2. So your making 20-60s lifes easier on the XP side, but 1-20 on the equipment side...
Hopefully blizz have everything worked out though!

All wonderful news, except the new goblin town and quests in Dustwallow. That was a great place for pvp-realm Horde to level outside the gankfest of STV. With 60 new cross-faction quests, looks like Dustwallow is going to become a gankfest too.

It's still pretty much the same boring old quests if you're leveling alts. Still will have problem getting groups and no one will still want to do the instances because they'll get better gear in Outlands.
Just another way for Blizz to try to stem the tide of unhappiness and defecting players.
Krianna Oct 8th 2007 11:34PM
62- you have level 30s refusing to run instances because "they'll get better gear in outlands"?
Wow.
Especially when you add in the changes to instances to make them more like those in Outlands.

Get your twinks now!

@62 your just one of the pathetic players who whine, whine and whine some more yet keep paying.
People are leaving because they are either bored or life caught up with them.
Most players who leave the game get bored or life catches them what I mean is school, marriage, children, etc, etc. All these things had players from my guild leave in the three years I have been playing.
Nothing Blizzard can do will keep players from getting bored if the players have been playing for years, its natural.

@62 Oh your comment about level 30s skipping instances for gear in outlands, who the heck keeps gear from 30 till 58....
Watumez Oct 9th 2007 2:57AM
Hogger... will no longer be elite. Think about it.
RogueJedi86 Oct 9th 2007 4:12AM
They wouldn't dare make Hogger non-elite. This is for levels 20-60. Even Blizz must realize that level 1 Gnomes would have nothing to do if Hogger became easy.

I was rather suspect about the faster questing but now that I think about it, it solves another problem, i.e that of a zone having too few quests to level up to the next zone. I am glad they gave the boosts to the levels 20-60 and another one in addition to lvls 30-60, those are the ones that really needed them, primarily 30-60 and to a lesser extent 20-60. This is quite nice, I'm also glad they scaled up the leveling
even more as one goes higher in level though to be fair there are more higher level zones but still this should help.
Thank god they didn't introduce something dumb like /level command, I just hope they balanced it well and didn't take the challenge out of the game altogether. Still the thing looks good at this point.
Another thing that I didn't think of but am quite grateful for nonetheless is the instance level range compression.
The dustwallow marsh improvement looks quite promising, the goblin town means that the quests will be accessible to both sides.
Now if only they could finish the broken/incomplete quests and give the dustwallow treatment to some other zones.
Although it may be work I think it would be good in terms of lore to add some more Horde/Alliance specific quests.
I am quite happy, I just hope blizzard doesn't stop here.
Ashwin Oct 9th 2007 4:48AM
@2 Yeah, that's good idea, they should also nerf EPL and some other areas to lower levels since nobody quests to lvl 60 in azeroth anyways.
Bloodieros Oct 9th 2007 5:38AM
Oh boy! Time to level my baby Warlock and Mage!
Vyasa Oct 9th 2007 10:11AM
Hooray, I will start playing again and make my non-healing alt to endgame :)
TheMinority Oct 9th 2007 1:26PM
Too bad my druid is already level 57. :(
Jess Oct 9th 2007 11:01AM
Yay this is a great move, streamlining the leveling process is important with people considerng how long it can take to get from 1-70. However I wish that blizard would do more redesigns. There are plenty of zones that could benefit from more quests, and I think that several long instanc slogs could be cut down into wings, ie BRD, Mara and Uldaman.
As I have suggested before (and have recieved lots of kudos for this idea) retrofiting the rep grind for Cenarion Circle and Argent Dawn so you get reputation from those factions for certain lowbie instances or more questing nodes from those factins in lower areas so that way you can get cool gea from them at say level 40 or would be annother great incentive for players to level and also it means those rep grinds aren't wasted on dead-end 60 content that no one is doing anymore.

I am so looking forward to 2.3 that once my level 30ish toons level i am putting them on the shelf and playing new alts until the patch. Why if i know that leveling is going to get easier woudl i waste my time on any toon between 20-60 now. I might spend some time farming with them, but leveling knowing that in a couple weeks i won't have to work as hard..come on...
Goober Oct 14th 2007 9:17PM
Great, now it'll just be that much easier for me to solo Strat and Scholo with my druid. At this rate I figure in another patch or so I should be able to solo Zul'Gurub or Ahn'Qiraj
