More mount mayhem

As David mentioned a few days ago, we will get the chance to purchase an epic Hippogryph flying mount when Patch 2.3 err, lands. But Bornakk has let us know that this baby won't be as easy to get as the Skyguard nether ray mount for instance. When asked about the mounts that will be added into the game when Wrath launches, he had this to say:
We do plan to continue adding new mounts to the game, but we aren't ready to go into details on Wrath of the Lich King specific mounts yet. Keep in mind we are adding the Hippogryph mount as a Cenarion Expedition purchasable item in patch 2.3 along with the Engineering only flying mount...The Cenarion Expedition Hippogryph mount is a 280% epic flying mount that requires exalted status and will cost 2000 gold
In other mount news, there's been a clarification on the Broom Mount that will be dropped by the Headless Horseman as part of the Hallow's End event. Originally we saw images that showed it as a single-use item, but we have now been told that this is not the case.
Drysc says that the mount will still be a limited-time item, but will have a 14-day duration. This is great news, although I would have loved to have a permanent broom mount for my Warlock. Who knows, maybe they will add it in at a later date now that they have the model created. Hey, a girl can dream, can't she?
It looks like we are also getting more information about the engineering flying mount. First engineers will be required to create a non-epic flying mount. Mats for the creation of the epic mount will cost around 500g and won't require any primal nethers or vortices. Evidently it's a pretty slick item, as Drysc says:I wish I had an engineer after getting to see it. Hands down, in my opinion, the best flying mount in the game.
It looks like I will be getting back into engineering after all.

2000g? I was getting excited about the new mount, but that's ridiculous...

2000g? *Cue Fred Sanford impersonations in 5... 4... 3... 2...*

I'm so glad I punished myself with engineering for it to finally pay off, Blizzard has been so nice recently....although I am waiting for the new engineering mount to say:
"Chance during flight for 'slight' malfunction
-Nothing gets metal off the ground like Gnomish ingenuity"
Can't wait to come falling out of the sky over Shat...

2000 more gold...
Gold farmers just got richer.

Wow, this patch will be so very good. Get my Eng mounts and CE one too.... roll on! :)

@3 Meh, it's a vanity mount, and it requires the 5K riding skill (plus a non-soloable faction rep). If you're already riding around on an epic flyer, you're pulling down 120G a day in daily quests as is, so you're looking at two weeks' work give or take. I don't think this is going to push anyone who doesn't already buy gold over the edge.

"For the creation of the epic mount will cost around 500g and won't require any primal nethers or vortices."
If they keep with this statement when 2.3 comes out, then I expect to see a lot of happy Engineers with the whole possibility that Blizz learned (or not) from making the Epic goggles requiring Nethers.
(And it seems like that the cost of the mats seems to be in line with the Tailoring BoP specialty sets: no nethers, just insane mats that you can solo gather.)

Blizzard: Support sustainability! Make in game bicycles and promote individual actions to solve global warming.
Think about it: all those epic flying mounts must consume a massive amount of innocent animals to be fed, and in turn emit a god-awful amount of methane!
And now you want to introduce flying smog machines? No thank you Blizzard! One gnomeregan is enough! Save Azeroth, and reduce your greenhouse emissions today.

how's 2000g more difficult than a nether ray exactly?
Anyone who's running heroics regularly should be at exalted (or damn close) with CE... I'm not sure that's more difficult than a bunch of daily quests over and over again.

approximately 26 days (can't speed it up, they're dailies!) to get exalted for a nether ray.
You can get exalted with CE in maybe a week at most, assuming you did all the CE quests in the game and are at or close to revered anyway.
Looks to me that it's going to be the easiest non-stanard mount to get, unless there's something they're not saying about a questline to unlock it.

What I want to know is... when are they going to give us a specific "bag space" for mounts...
I have::
Normal Wolf
Epic Wolf
PvP Raptor
PvP Kodo
Ridable Tabulk (Nagrand)
Brewfest Ram (soon)
Normal Wyvern
Epic Wyvern
Netherdrake
Nether-ray (soon)
Hippogriff (when it's released)
Broom (see above)
I'd love to have some variety when im zooming around everywhere :)

@2 A blue has specifically stated that the new Engineering flying mount will not malfunction. It would be extremely unfortunate if it were to explode over some place where you wouldn't be able to retrieve your body. I'm certainly glad I stuck to Engineering. I was certain they'd make a craftable mount one day. Dead certain. I had my bets on the machines from Gnomer, but I guess I was happily wrong. They made a FLYING mount (I was secretly hoping for one, too)! Thank you, Blizz!

Hmmm, time to powerlevel engineering... and an alt to have it on, as my current characters already have maxed out professions :-)
Noct Oct 10th 2007 2:54AM
Engineers rejoice! I hope to leave a stately thick plume of smoke behind me where ever I fly!
Orestes Oct 10th 2007 6:18AM
@9 With the rep boosts, you could have the skyguard mount in less than a day or two of serious grinding.
Mainstay Oct 10th 2007 6:31AM
2K GOLD? And it's the same damn speed? If it looks like a generic hippogryph this will be the rarest mount in the game.
The thing better look epic, I mean:

That kinda epic :)

Blizz really needs to learn that charging gold for epics is a BAD idea. The only reason the gold farmers are still in business is because getting 5k gold for epic mounts and JC recpies (which are simply not worth the price fr 1-2 more stats than the normal cuts). Adding another item you need 2k gold for is only going to perpetuate the gold farmers profits.
I say make it some insanly hard solo quest to get a hippogryph and maybe a 500g price tag. A reasonable amount of effort for a choice that is all about vanity. There's no pride in saying, HEY I GOT AN EXPENSIVE MOUNT! as opposed to the old ZG Tiger and Raptor which shows dedication or the PVP mounts which show how vicious you used to be. At a 2k price tag, that mount better be platinum plated with spinners and a valet.

Why only an epic version of the hippogryph? Im slowly but surely chugging my way to 5K gold, but dammmit I was really looking forward to being able to have a spiffy new slow flier til then. This article made me sad ----> :(
P.S. they should lower the cost of the epic skill..3K is a nice number(*hint hint*, Blizz)
