WoW Moviewatch: WoW shout out in Stargate: Atlantis
This 48 second clip from an upcoming episode of Stargate: Atlantis shows a little nod to World of Warcraft. I'm not going to give away the reference. You'll have to click on it and hear it for yourself.
Apparently this is the second time WoW is mentioned in Stargate. I can't find a clip of the first reference, so if someone knows where it lives, let me know!

this episode was shown this sunday.
and the last time it was mentioned was when that same guy talks about him having a mage, and Elizabeth Weir succeeds in distracting him by claiming to be a player herself.

I like it when they reference stuff I'm into in TV shows like this. But, I do wish they did their homework first and not totally kill it by saying stuff like "lvl 75 mage..."

Hello Thorin, alternate universe.. stargates etc.. they can make stuff up.
Maybe they wanted to sound futuristic, like they already have WotLK?
Grajen Oct 10th 2007 12:26PM
He mentioned a beta of the expansion, maybe he was reffering to WotLK, if he was we can look forward to three proffesions. :P (He got engineering, jewelcrafting and skills up enchanting)

umm. the episode where he mentions himself being lvl 75 is from before the burning crusade came out. But yeah it could be an alternate universe and or time, as we know there is a lot of those in stargate.

I mean, it's the future, they're probably up to level cap of 100

Yeah, the WoW references in SGA have been awesome. I smile a little more everytime.

he is THE LAWGIVER!!
ThorinII Oct 10th 2007 1:20PM
Oh... Of course the max lvl would be higher. And he would be able to have three professions. What was I thinking?
No.. wait... I know what I was thinking.... they got it wrong. As shows usually do. It's not a big deal. I just wish the writers would do a little research now and then, that's all.

This show, like the other stargates is a horrible show. Horrible acting and weak, over-done stories. Throwing in references like this, especially when they are incorrect references, are just there to grasp that one demographic for that one (but they hope more than) show. Its cheap and stupid. imo

Yeah, I don't get out much since I'm a balding old man. But I do play World of Warcraft all the time, and everything I see reminds me of my level 143 ranger. I'm the dungeon master on my server, and sometimes we go out and raid dragons with 5 other guys.

To be honest, the references to WoW are too detailed to be accidentally wrong. It's more likely the writers were just having a little fun with it or are trying to elicit an annoyed response. The odds that no staff member who works on THAT show does not actually play the game is very small. Besides, when this show goes into DVD/reruns, who's to say that we DON'T have level 80 people with 3 trade skills.
Stargate has ALWAYS had off the cuff references to modern sci-fi and geekiness such as when they talk about this "unrealistic" movie concerning aliens who are deathly afraid of water who travel 100 light years to a planet 70% water, more Star-Trek and Star Wars references than I can count, hell, even themselves (WORMHOLE X-TREME! el-oh-el).

I watched it and loved it. I love that show.

There was a WoW reference on Big Bang Theory this week too. They talked about "The Sword of Azeroth". Pretty funny.
Tryst Oct 10th 2007 4:03PM
Did anyone catch the WoW reference in the teaser of that stupid show Big Bang Theory? I accidentally saw it whilst flipping channels and was quite annoyed by it's stupidity.

"Did you ask the President about my suggestion?"
"No we can't name it the Enterprise."
"Drat!"
- Colonel O'Neill and Sam Carter
Classic! Then there was something about Phasers too which made me grin.

It was also mentioned in Moonlight, the main character was talking about things he would miss out on if he wasn't a vampire, and World of Warcraft was one of them.
zushiba Oct 10th 2007 5:01PM
Anyone catch the Starcraft reference?

It's only fair since Dalaran is going to pull an "Atlantis" next seaso.. er, expansion.
