First five pages of Warcraft comic on the web
MTV's Multiplayer blog landed an exclusive interview with comic book legend Walt Simonson about the upcoming Warcraft comic shipping next month. Included in the interview is the first five pages of the comic. We already knew the plot was about an amnesiac human enslaved by an orc shaman to compete in an Arena tournament. What we learn in this interview is some of the other major characters. They include a blood elf, a night elf druid and a dwarven warrior.
All of these characters are also available as action figures. In fact, we here at Wow Insider just finished up a contest to give away the Thargas Anvilmar action figure in a Brewfest contest.
Simonson promises a mix of the familiar and the surprising. While deeply immersing himself in the lore of Azeroth, he also found new stories to tell. Blizzard themselves have approval, so we know the lore will be spot on.
You can read the entire interview and see all five sneak peak pages here. Or you can wait til November for the comic to hit the shelves.

Hooray for infringement! Stranger in a Strange Land is a Heinlein book.

It is interesting reading the interview especially in its tone, I don't get the feeling that the author has any real affinity for the lore, community or the experience.
The comic does however look competently assembled, although the general impression is that it is 'alliance-centric' it appears to be going for traditional themes and should be a decent read as long as the character development works well. Personally though I think I will stick with Equinox for the time being :)

@1 Same thing I was thinking :)

That title is used in a lot of things, paying homage I guess considering WoW has a lot of references to real world things

You cannot infringe on a title. I can write ten books and name each one Stranger in a Strange Land and there is nothing that Heinlein's estate can do about it.

Also, Walt Simonson is one of the best writers in comics. If he brings his A game, this will be an awesome comic book: this is the man who revitalized Thor and wrote the most mind-bending storyline in Fantastic Four history.
If he just phones it in, it will still be better than most comics out there.

I've been wary of this comic since I first heard about it and seeing the first few pages of it just kind of shows me that I wasn't entirely wrong. I was afraid this comic might show Orcs and the Horde as a bunch of evil barbaric savages and it's looking that way.
I hope I'm wrong and this is a great comic, but I'm definatly not buying it.

Agreed. This is just going to increase the lore-less individuals perception that its Good vs. Bad and Horde is bad. /fail.

I fail to see how they are showing the orcs are bad, they are watching to see if he is worthy since Orcs are all about honor and battle. They did help him at the last second but during the fight they are watching and then admiring his skill but what ever..

@9 I agree with you. It's not like they went in and tried to kill the human once it looked like he was winning. In fact, one attempted helped him and their speaking is very articulate and not savage at all. The Orcs had a job to do and that's why the head of the group got mad. If your boss found you slacking off like that, you'd get yelled at too. I've had orc and undead help me when I was in a fix and I've helped Horde take down something that looked like they needed help on, neither side is evil or good, they just have different views. My neutral attitude, let me show you it.
The art style reminds me of a X-Men artist that was famous back in the day for blending modern comic art styles with Anime art styles.

Hooper: The writers are trying to bring Alliance vs Horde tensions back into the game, and the character in the comic, (allegedly the lost king of Stormwind) will be major player in the future hostility, and it will presumably be spilling over into Northrend.
As I understand, the plot of the comic also ties into the upcoming movie.

I saw some of this at Blizzcon, and wow, did they come a long way since then. I liked it then, but I love it now. It looks GREAT!
And I disagree -- this doesn't read pro-Alliance (yet) at all. But it's too early to tell from this.
I'm buying it.
