Blue Notes: Deathwish change justification, new repair bot info
Many Fury warriors are wondering why their Deathwish skill is being moved to the Arms tree as of patch 2.3, trading places with Sweeping Strikes. In response, Bornakk had this to say: Some warriors felt forced to pickup certain talents and this left them with few options. This change could allow people in these situations to have some extra options while the weapon expertise and threat reduction improvements to the deep end of the fury tree allow for more consistent sustained damage.
I'm not convinced. Basically, this reads like another case of forced diversification: Blizzard is taking certain cookie-cutter specs that were very good, and breaking them, thus, in theory, causing people to spec with more variety. What always happens in real life, though (and I've observed this several times over the time I've been playing WoW), is that people come up with new cookie cutter specs. It's inevitable, really: people want to know what the "best" spec is for their purpose, and eventually one will be agreed upon. Breaking cookie cutter builds just makes people come up with new cookie cutter builds.
Players are wondering what the point of the new repair bots is, given that the mats to make them are pretty steep and BC raids for the most part aren't long enough to need repair breaks like the old-world raids used to. One poster claims they are only there to make something engineers can auction off; in response, Eyonix said:
The Field Repair Bot's purpose is actually so that engineers can offer a means for their party or raid to repair if needed. Additionally, the new repair bot will sell poison and spell reagents, arrows, bullets, and a limited supply (1-2) super mana and healing potions.
So now we know what the bot will be selling, which is nice. One or two potions isn't going to go very far but, depending on how much the bot sells them for, will offer a way to recoup some of the mats cost (super mana potions go for 5G on my server).
In other news, Nethaera grew up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, although she is now, of course, in the great state of California.

How the heck can you use them to recoup the cost?
If the darn thing gave away 5 for free, that would be a profit of 25g.
Thats still not even a dent in the cost difference between the 2 bots.
old bot = 20g of mats. new bot 100+g
the bot will never see the light of day as is.

Agreed, they obviously have some crazy system for determining materials. This type of thing really needs to just have a multi-day cooldown and call it good.
The idea of dropping a bot for a holy candle and some arrows is quite amusing.
Too bad the remote mail station wasn't around anymore, then we could mail ourselves candles, poisons and arrows.

If you're in a raid that requires one of these things, you're going to need so many more then 2 mana pots, it's ridiculous (and if you're melee, and you keep the pots, you should be kicked).
2 Mana Pots = 4 min of raiding (bosses).

It had already been revealed (By Bornakk) that the new repair bot would sell level 65 arrows and bullets, spell reagents, a few scrolls and potions, and poison ingredients. I fail to see how another blue poster restating the abilities of the repair bot accomplishes anything. It certainly doesn't explain why anyone would want to spend 100+ gold in mats for a one-time use item which sells bullets and arrows that no raiders would be caught dead with, and a few potions at a non-discounted price, when repair NPCs and other vendors offering higher quality items are located in or close to nearly all raid instances.

I don't know anything about warriors, except that they often stop me dying.
As for the repair bot. There are repair and reagent vendors in, or just outside of Karazhan, Gruul's Lair, The Eye, Serpentshrine Cavern and Mount Hyjal. Even Black Temple is only a short ride from the Aldor / Scryer flight points in SMV.
It's not like the 'old days' when the raid entrance was a good 5-10 minutes from the nearest vendors.
Repairing is always a good time for wee breaks anyway.

Bah, need an edit function. Drysc was the one to make the initial descriptive post, although Bornakk was the one who originally hinted at the new repair bot in that thread.

all this post did was confirm that the new bot is still a total waste. gg blizz.

The means chosen to mess with the fury tree fail to achieve the stated aims. Apparently Kalgan was annoyed that Arms warriors were not taking some of the deep Arms powers, including Imp. Mortal Strike and Endless Rage. Instead, they were cherry picking the Fury tree down to Death Wish and Imp. Slam.
Moving Death Wish out of Fury fails to make those deep Arms powers any more attractive to Arms warriors. They have already been tried and found wanting. It just gives them a different selection of Fury powers to pick from.
Fury warriors are boss killers. Death Wish was an end of fight kicker, and an emergency fear break that also had a lot of value for offtanks in PvE. Sweeping Strikes is no substitute at all for it; the tree that would really benefit from another multi target attack is Protection. I suspect I will forego Rampage to keep it, as the planned tree forces me to.
What would help avoid cookie cutter speccing is the unlinking from the only slightly useful Enrage as a requirement for full Flurry, or making Dual Wield Spec the prerequisite. In the endgame Enrage is devalued, because in the endgame if you are crit you are dead.
Some people think Mortal Strike warriors are overpowered; my opinion is that Mortal Strike is so highly prized, not because warriors are powerful, but because healing is overemphasized. That said, it is a very popular spec and play style. But this buffs PvP warriors and hurts PvE DPS warriors badly, and it's the PvE DPS warriors that need to be buffed.

Because it's not like they got extra damage on whirlwind (now you can actually make a use of improved whirlwind talent) and threat reduction, AMIRITE?

I would rather pay 300g to make the a repair bot TRINKET with a 4 hour CD.

The money spent at a repair bot SHOULD go directly into he pockets of the engineer who made it!
We engineers don't have much that brings in gold, it's a very expensive profession. They need to make more ways for us to make some of our money back. Making it so that money spent at a repair bot is paid to the maker of the repair bot would help.
2kings Oct 16th 2007 9:19AM
Does anyone else think think that blacksmiths should be able to repair?
SirCasey Oct 16th 2007 9:36AM
@2kings
Hear! Hear! When I first started my paladin I took up BS because I thought I could repair my own gear, but then never found the option to... Grrrr.
Todd Oct 16th 2007 9:59AM
Any money gained from the new Repair Bot should go into the owner's pocket. How much does it cost to make this new repair bot? 100 gold? Yeah... very worth it.
Heraclea Oct 16th 2007 10:44AM
@nea:
The improvements to Whirlwind (and Sweeping Strikes) do not benefit instance and raid DPS warriors as much as they might seem to on paper. These places tend to be crowded with fragile crowd control, making multi mob attacks dangerous. In teams, Sweeping Strikes would be of most value to a tank tanking trash mobs, but it still isn't available in defensive stance. If they are going to swap the 21 point gateway power, I'd rather have Concussion Blow.
Threat reduction is fine, but after Blizzard gets done with the Fury tree in 2.3 we probably won't need it any more.

"Engineering is going to get some love."
Okay, you gave us a flying-mount. Great, thank you for it and the goggles. But WTF is this repairbot BS? Are the people who dream these things up MORONS? One of the prime complaints of engineering is that it's pretty much useless. Wow, looks like they decided to keep with the trend. My raid needs a repairbot this expensive like I need a poke in the eye.
