WoW Moviewatch: Edge of Remorse
The mark of a great WoW film is that it just happens to use WoW as a backdrop, but could stand on its own as a masterpiece no matter how it was filmed. What makes the lack of dialog possible is the use of Scott Buckley's extraordinary and haunting original score, and gToon's artful cinematic editing. Rather than me gush on, watch, and enjoy, but beware, a love triangle and ultimate tragedy lie ahead.

VERY well done!

Very well done, but with one obvious flaw.
Why didn't the warlock deathcoil?

So sad.. ;_;

In my opinion, this is the best (WoW) machinima ever made till today. I hope that I can create something equally great someday.

machinima is really stupid, but i watched that one, and it was actually done very well
cool :P

I haven't seen this one before and it's very well done, but I get the sense you haven't seen some other machinima out there to claim so decisively that this is the best.
If you haven't seen them go look up Rise of the Living Dead 3 (the first two really weren't that good) and The Island Episode 1.
I also have one serious criticism of this one. It's technically very well done and relies on the standards of cinema. But the reliance on close ups doesn't suit the medium well given the complete lack of facial expressions. Other than that I thought it was fantastic, just the blank faces during the emotional scenes broke the illusion for me.

That is by far the most amazing cinematography I have seen in a WOW machinima (possibly any machinima) ever! That was outstanding, I can't believe I haven't seen this before.
I'm just floored by this.

@6
Rise of the Living Dead 3 left me unimpressed. But The Island is quite interesting looking.
I still hold by my statement that this is the best cinematography I've seen in a WOW movie though. I think it's the focus on the little details- like the shift of the character's eyes before the fireball, the lighting on their faces, etc.- that does it for me.
Also the faces actually seemed very appropriate to me when they were staring each other down before the fight. Kind of a shocked-sorrow look....

I do agree on the lack of facial impression, but still it's very well done! :)

@6 - To be fair, the organizers of the Machinima Festival 2007 seem to think that is the best WoW machinima ever made. It's on their Top 5 list of All-time Great Machinimas on the BBC News website. Aside from Return, I can't honestly think of a better WoW machinima.

The authors of Machinima for Dummies (that would be me and Johnnie Ingram) also included it in their top 10 best Machinima ever, and it won Best Direction at the Machinima Film Festival 2006.
Or, to put it another way, this film is absolutely gobsmacking, and I'm glad to see its profile finally rising.

It's also worth noting that Edge of Remorse is that most unusual of things, a piece of drama Machinima that isn't specifically based in or particularly attached to the game in which it was created.

Please, please, please stop posting this old crap that everyone already knows about.
You yourself admitted it was over a year old. That should have been proof enough for you to have the sense not to post it as a "new" article.

You all make good points, though to 13 I'm actually glad he posted this. I had never seen this before and am happy I got the chance to, because it easily is in the top 3 serious WoW machinimas I've ever seen. I just still hesitate to call it -the- best.
Hell when I was first linked to The Island with no context and heard the intro I thought it was taken from a movie trailer because of the quality of the voice acting. This movie does a fantastic job of using traditional cinema standards, but I still feel parts are slightly out of place when applied to this different medium. For my part at least The Island does a better, overall, job of working with the medium's strengths and weaknesses.

Am I the only one who was confused about what was going on? I'm an engineer not a literature major, I like my plot to be obvious.
