BigRedKitty: A Video Special Event
Each week, Daniel Howell contributes BigRedKitty, a column with strategies, tips and tricks for and about the hunter class sprinkled with a healthy dose of completely improper, sometimes libelous, personal commentary.
We'd like to present for your entertainment pleasure a short movie of a hunter's perspective of the Moroes pull in Karazhan. The concept behind this project was to give hunters a visual guide for what their roles and responsibilities are, and the skill-set they can bring to a raid.
Your feedback will be most appreciated. Download the 48MB wide-screen version here.
Daniel Howell continues his quest to become the WoW-Scorsese as the hunter-pet duo extraordinaire known to lore as BigRedKitty. More of his theorycrafting and slanderous belittling of the lesser classes can be found at bigredkitty.blogspot.com.

That is how you put it down!
You're my hunter idol.
ObiChad Oct 17th 2007 3:51PM
As a priest who shackles in that fight, I have one suggestion. When we do Moroes with hunters and priests, we have the hunters drop their trap at the feet of the priest after we are done with blue square. That way if the shackle breaks at a bad time or the shackle resists, the trap is there for backup.
Beaverius Oct 17th 2007 3:54PM
Way to flex the hunter ePeen no doubt, but you really have to wonder why a group would be willing to sacrifice so much DPS for that... while you trap I kill shit. Ok well las tnight I had to trap one mob but it was kill fest after that.
PS if you FD during Moroes' vanish you won't get garott and you can drink a little.

Interesting stuff - as a pretty hopeless lvl 70 hunter, it's always good to see it done so smoothly.
However, the last time I was there, it went rather differently - I was the only priest, and we had no hunter! Amazingly, it was possibly the smoothest Moroes run I've been involved in. Good that this particular boss can be tackled in so many different ways.
Oh, and one final thing - if the last add is left shackled, you can run out after killing Moroes and the add will despawn, leaving a nice pile of loot. Wonder if that's a bug?
Jalann Oct 17th 2007 4:03PM
You know you can perma-trap two of the adds, kill two and Moroes and then leash out and let the other two despawn?
lrn2play Oct 17th 2007 4:07PM
If hunters don't know how to chain trap by Kara then they should immediately delete their characters.
Razhlok Oct 17th 2007 4:13PM
Yep, that's how its done. GJ BRK. Nice guide for nub huntards that never learned how to chain trap.
Mentoku Oct 17th 2007 4:23PM
I recommend having a pet perma-taunt the shackled add(s). When the shackle does break, the add will beat on the pet instead of the shackler and allow more time for the re-shackle. I do this with my Void, but the same thing holds for a hunter pet, I assume. :)

I have gotta say... That's a damn impressive job there. Watching your cat tanking those four adds is almost enough to make me want to abandon marksmanship and go beast master.
Of course, that is a best case senerio on Morose. I remember one especially short fight with him where I was the first one garroted, died rather rapidly because the add broke free and got a blow or two in on me before I could refreeze him, and thus my add got loose and smashed a few of the healers, sending the rest of the survivors out of the room to reset the encounter.

WOW Insider should do more narrated boss fights! That was great.
Cailleach Oct 17th 2007 5:48PM
You. Are my hero. Hobbs would be Wilbur's hero if he were only a big red piggy instead of a big red kitty, 'cause Wilbeast isn't into cross-species love. Still, if one MUST run a critter other than a piggy, Hobbes is lovely.
Hybrys Oct 17th 2007 6:16PM
Ugh. I hate how so many people idolize you. You have such a terrible shot rotation, and you aren't even in the real endgame. And, as BM, you should be topping meters, and pushing 800-1000 DPS, instead of that measily 700~ you had on the WWS of Gruuls. *Yes, in Kara gear.*
But, good job on flexing your epeen on one of the easiest fights in current endgame. And I do agree. If you can't chain trap by level 70, you need to delete your character and roll something with easier utility. Like a rogue.
Seraya Oct 17th 2007 6:22PM
Well, Hybrys, you're certainly free to host your own boss kill movie with your own narration about how you do such a better job.
Nice work BRK. I do agree with advice posted earlier, when I'm done with blue square I usually position myself near shackle and keep it trapped while I blast away at Moroes, double CC = double insurance. :)
Hybrys Oct 17th 2007 6:25PM
Sure, I could make one. But, I wouldn't have the audience. The exposure of this guy sickens me, and makes me believe that the title of Huntard really should be hung over 90% of hunters heads. =/
XIan Oct 17th 2007 6:29PM
To Beavarius
Good FD tip for some but BRK is a dwarf and can stoneform out of Garrote. I'd rather he take one then have one land on someone else.
Sohanstag Oct 17th 2007 6:45PM
Great idea! This video thing would have been fantastic as I was getting into Kara/endgame stuff. I've done this fight many times by now, but I'm sure there's lots of folks for whom this is new and it never hurts to see a visual of good trapping. Not everyone is lucky enough to have a hunter mentor in-guild. Now how 'bout doing this for other classes, WoW Insider? Video blogging would rock.
P.S. - Hey, Hybrys...Half the fun (make that 90%) of reading BRK is watching guys like you fault him for e-peen issues and then proceed to flaunt their own. He's a good writer trying to be helpful to the 90% of hunters out there who don't eat/sleep/breathe Warcraft. Get over yourself.
Baluki Oct 17th 2007 6:53PM
Honestly, this is the best boss fight video I've ever seen. And I'm not even a hunter.
Joe Oct 17th 2007 6:55PM
I don't know why so many people complain about 'epeen'; qq more imo. Also, there's no reason you must know how to chain trap by 70. Certainly by the time you're geared for kara but not right away.
The only problem I see with the video is that it's a best case scenario for a fairly overgeared group. There's a lot that could go wrong and it would also be worse if your dps is slower on the other adds. It's still nice to have but if you're a hunter new to kara you should keep these things in mind.
Hybrys Oct 17th 2007 6:57PM
Am I flaunting my epeen? Did I link my armory? Did I tell you how far I am in endgame? Also, I don't even play that much. But, thanks for coming out.
Sohanstag Oct 17th 2007 7:02PM
You sure do follow these posts carefully, though. ;)
But...I guess that's the pot calling the kettle black.
Good point, Joe. However, I don't think I'm the best hunter in the world and we never had a problem with this fight. Maybe we were overgeared as a group and I just didn't realize it.
