WoW Moviewatch: Amaranth
Today's WoW Moviewatch features a fairly new machinimator on the scene, Mike Brock, who is publishing under Fishspit Productions. This is only his second offering in the arena of music video machinima, but the influence of his mentors/friends Baron Soosdon and Olibith is clearly felt. This video hints at a dark and sinister sub-story, all set to the song "Amaranth" by Nightwish. The only real issue I have is that it feels like the last bit of the video is almost too band-focused. Don't get me wrong -- I love L70ETC, and Techi is cool, but I really wanted to see just a smidge more of the great story, which seemed to stop short to me. (Sorry, no spoilers here. You'll have to watch it yourself.) Beyond that, this is a fantastic piece for someone relatively new to machinima, and I will certainly be keeping my eyes peeled for future Fishspit works!
As always, YouTube is the necessary evil to fit our sizing here, but if you can, be sure you pop over to WarcraftMovies.com and check out the full-size video. It's most definitely worth the download.

That video was great--I really enjoyed it. Dark, but well done! I just passed it on to my guildmates for our Machinima guys to watch and enjoy!

Well, the video effects and stuff were good in that video, but sticking Blizzard cartoon-fantasy models in with Valves realistic scenery just doesn't mix well. But, apart from the bizzare mix, it's not that bad a job.

It's a good thing they used a kid from WoW in the video.
We all know Blizzard has built-in game mechanics to prevent harm to children NPC's.
They can stand in a rain of fire, blizzards, hellfires, and hurricanes and STILL be smiling, unhurt, and happy as always.
Without that simple game-mechanic in place, I might have felt rather sad and depressed for this videos' kid when he's shoved to his death.
Good work Blizzard, in making sure that kids, even game ones, stay safe from the level 70 jerks in cloth outfits.
((Rather dark video, but worth watching. The rooms/environment looked well-proportioned to the characters. Good work!))

It was decent, but to me it felt too much like a wannabe Soosdon, without even taking some of his advice to heart.
It's a fool's task to try to lip sync WoW models to song lyrics without heavy video editing. Letting the model run may make the movement more natural, but the syncing isn't going to happen.
Soosdon addressed this in his "making of" post for his excellent RE tracked video. At least for closeups, the shots were very brief, highly edited, or of a kind that didn't require the lead voice to actually be singing (for cool effect).
There was a little of that in this video, but a lot of the time it reminded me of videos where people think constantly spamming the /say animation is a proper way to show characters talking.
I'd also agree that there should have been more focus on the story. L70ETC is much better dolled out in small doses, in order to maintain potency.
It was definitely an excellent second shot, but there's also definite room for improvement.

The effect are ok but that song doesnt fit at all with the video. You cant make a new video clip for a song that already has one. By the way for people who doesn't know this is not an emo band it's a Metal band from Finland and there's 1 guitar and 1 keyboard not 2 guitar.

Well, if i am supposed to judge in 10 point scale, it's:
-9 for the scenario
-8 for the way it's done
-10 for selecting Nightwish
Hope the next vide is to Elvenpath/Stargazers/The Riddler, or maybe a pure-story video to Moondance
