I think they are epic drops because of the event. A lot of players, including myself, will probably never run high-end content. This will probably be the only purple drop they will ever get (for now because epics are being added to lower lvl content).

I am sick of "hardcore" players complaining that things are too easy. Not everyone is free all day everyday.
