WoW Moviewatch: The Headless Horseman
What were you up to last night in-game? If your evening resembled mine (and, by the looks of the crowd, hundreds of my closest friends), then you were hitting up the Scarlet Monastery graveyard to summon and fight the Headless Horseman. The Horseman isn't an impossible fight, but neither is he a pushover -- which is probably appropriate, since he drops epic loot and one of four broom mounts with each kill. But in case you haven't had a chance to jump online and see the fight yourself, I offer this video of the encounter.

He's definitely easier (and easier to get to) than all the heroic bosses. Its been a while since I did a non-heroic boss so I can't compare him to the L70 5-mans.

Not a pushover? He barely does any damage and he has low health... with 5 people, the only way you can lose is if you forget to attack the head or something? I dunno?

I'd have to say he's really easy, I was grouping with people at 65, and we were bringing a 62 druid along later in the evening.
Razzberry Oct 19th 2007 12:22PM
He's maybe as hard as normal mode Kargath. Maybe.

Nati: Don't underestimate the ability of people to not attack the head.

He's the defination of a pushover, it's kinda silly that the healing ring you can get as a goof encounter is identical to a 25 badge reward ring too.
We were 4 manning it so lower level alts could loot.

@2 Ah, the narrow mind assumes that everyone is in top gear. Please don't do that as it only serves to make you look stuck up.
The fight is easy if you are geared our correctly, but the only loot you will be after are the flyers because you will have better gear already. As for my mage that only just dinged 70 a week or so ago, and fighting along side similar gear people, the fight will be tough. Not impossible - no fight in the game is - but not easy. But she can also put the ring to good use. Yay! :)
I also did it with my main and, yes, it was easy. Oooh can I use that BoP drop? Nope. Why? I'm geared right. Simple. That is what made it easy.

Um, I tagged along on my 52 yesterday in a group of 4 70s, and they downed him easily... 1 tank, a pally healer, a lock and a rogue.
Rich Oct 19th 2007 12:41PM
We tried 3 manning him last night and got our butts handed to us. We just didn't have the DPS to do it. We had a Ret Pally, a fury warrior and my lock. None of us have the gear to pull it off. We're going back tonight with a 4th person and we'll knock him out. That I am sure of.
ThorinII Oct 19th 2007 12:41PM
Um, why does HE get to fight while mounted, but we don't? :0(

It's a really easy encounter. I think I did it 7 times yesterday. Your toon can only talk to the pumpkin once, so with a single group of 5 people you can do it up to 5 times, though we managed to switch to alts and do it a couple more times. When you talk to the pumpkin, accept the quest, then click on the dirt pile behind him.
He will spawn and needs to be tanked. Kill him, and his head will pop off and fly around. He'll start whirlwinding and moving towards his head (stay out of the whirlwind), kill the head and he'll unite again. Kill him again and his head pops off again with lower health, avoid the whirlwind and kill the head and it will re-unite. This time, he'll spawn 4 adds that are wimpy as hell, ignore them and DPS the boss down. When his head spawns, kill it quick (it has very low HP, ~20%) and the encounter is over.

Why is it that this is only set up for lvl 70's though. I mean, I understand that he's dropping some pretty nice loot ... but there isn't really anything else worthwhile about the holiday save for fighting the HH and picking up a nice drop along the way

The song accompanying the video put me to sleep, but the encounter is fun. :)

The official forums were full of "QQ easy epix" blah blah blah.
Epic in this game means, rarity or work involved to get it, epics dropped in pre 60 content but were really rare, I guess rare for this epic set is that you only have two weeks to go after it.
Kellhouse Oct 19th 2007 1:01PM
Me and 2 other lv70 with a 43paly (for heals) killed him on the first attempt. I did not even know the fight and was tanking it. Killed him about 8 times with different people and lost on the roll for the brook every time :( will keep going at it! If anything it is fun and different then other fights.
P.S. Sugar rush 4tw !!! zOMG

There was so much carnage outside the instance on the PVP Dunemaul server on Thursday night, that the instance servers crashed. My priest was stuck in the instance for 1/2 an hour. Everyone was booted and my priest ended up in Shat. We did drop him twice before the cluster hit. Perhaps it will improve once a few players get the gear.

I want the squashling. I ran it 6x when it first went live, then another 5x later that day and no squashling yet :'(
