Judge Judy: World of What?
Oh, Judge Judy. This crazy kids bring their problems to you, ask you to fix things, and then they start talking nonsense about some videogame that you've never heard of. This looks super edited to me, but you can tell what's going on-- a girl decided to kick her boyfriend out of the house for playing too much World of Warcraft, and Judge Judy can't seem to make head or tails of the whole thing.
The classic moment is asking the fake baliff, though. It would have been even funnier if he turned around and said "Hell yes, for the Horde!"

I don't see meglomaniac crediting Incubus for that name. After all they wrote a song with that name in 2003.
They plagiarized their name then started crying and calling out accusations at WI for happening to have some of the same content as another site.
Things that make you go hmmmmmmm....
FYI...

I just think your name is fitting, megalomaniac... (see definition #2)
http://www.webster.com/dictionary/megalomaniac
1 : a mania for great or grandiose performance
2 : a delusional mental disorder that is marked by feelings of personal omnipotence and grandeur
I saw that video directly on youtube as well, and then also linked at two other gaming/tech news sites before even seeing it here, neither citing your LJ community, of which I've never heard until today.
I'm usually not like this, but I think "get over yourself" is adequate in this case.

@16 who is also #16
sthu, the LJ community is NOT on the rise at all. LJ died years ago when blogging about how you went to school, pissed your pants, cried to your mom and slit your wrists all night stopped being "internet worthy." If you want be all up in yourself then fine do it, but stop asking a site worth while [wowinsider.com] to post a link to your horrible LJ site. For hecks sake get a freaking domain name a real server and do your own coding. Then maybe ill take the time to type it into my address bar and see what you are typing about.
I looked at your post on your LJ your calling this a rip off? your post is like one long saying "YO! DUDES I FOUND A VIDEO ABOUT WOW! OMGWTFBBQ!" so shut up, get over it, and go find something else to do with your time...can i suggest Runescape maybe?
Good you agree :) now shut up!
P.S. Funny video! thanks for finding it wowinsider :)

Mike, I like you and I like your blog ( I really do). I could go back and find several recent instances where the timing between a particular wow_ladies/lj post (or comment) coincide with non-cited, posted material on wowinsider (from various authors). I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt that it's merely a coincidence, especially given that wow culture tends to create lightning quick fads that are easily accessible through several common websites (youtube warcraftmovies, the forums etc). The problem with giving you that benefit is that there is no way for anyone here to verify whether or not you're telling the truth, ever (when I say "you", I mean all of wowinsider, not you personally). When a video posted in the morning/afternoon on a community that we know wowinsider is a part of, pops up on wowinsider a few hours later, it's hard to determine whether or not you exploited the good nature of our lj community to further your news site, or if you did happen to miss the post and happened upon a video through your daily wow youtube search like you said. I realize that you do very often explicitly cite your livejournal sources, and that is very much appreciated.
My main concern in posting all of these is that I don't want to see the LJ communities, which are built solely around sharing and entertainment (which is to say that aside from the mods, no one posts there as a job, and certainly wont use anything they say there as part of a resume or to further a career in some way), exploited by wowinsider. What I mean by this is simply that, the LJ community shouldn't represent a noticeable portion of the posts on wowinsider (lj should not be doing the work for wowinsider). It's gotten to the point where several LJ users have noticed that wowinsider posts about our posts frequently. I'm actually a lot more comfortable with you guys reporting on our lj posts than a few more vocal members, but when I see that wowinsider is already using the LJ community as a regular staple of information for it's own blog posts, I can see the possibility of you guys slipping in a few posts that were lj inspired or at least lj citable, and then claiming it as your own (hey, all I did was search youtube!), and getting away with it as your own.
At the same time, I dont want to devalue the effort you've put into properly citing sources that need credit (it seems like a lot of people posting think I am trying to do that), or the actual work that you guys do here (which is significant). Although I really enjoy this blog and I want to give you the beninfit of the doubt concerning this particular video/post, I really think the circumstances are equally plausible that you either read the lj post and then posted on here OR you just found the video by happenstance. Thats a bad position for a journalist to be in though.

Man that would be so embarrassing if I was called out on national tv like that. I feel so bad for that guy lolol.
Message of the story kids: don't play WoW 12 hours a day. Especially if you live with your girlfriend and she has a job and you don't.
The big bang theory clip was awesome.

Judge Judy is a disrespectful old bitch that needs to get laid. I would punch that toothless hag out if she talked to me like that.
freddy_loser Oct 23rd 2007 5:51PM
@ 25,,,
Dude just let it die already.
derick Oct 25th 2007 12:24AM
Did you have any credit in the actual show Megalomaniac?
I'm going to go out on a limb and suppose that you didnt.
You deserve zero credit, even if you did post it on YouTube.
Why should anyone deserve 'credit' for this?
So you can show your friends and feel like a big boy?

@Mike Schramm:
Here's another example of wowinsider using LJ, not more than an hour after my posts.
Posts:

0 credit to the original POSTER ON LJ, from which WoWinsider stole and cropped the image from.
That's just not cool.

Judge Judy is satan. If you shaved her down you would find 666 somewhere. As for egomaniac, give it a rest. LJ is dead & buried...............
Brian Oct 23rd 2007 6:08PM
LiveJournal stills exists?
Huh.
megalomaniac Oct 23rd 2007 6:09PM
yeah, im done here. no one cares, and posts can be updated so there's no point in arguing anymore. gl to you all.
Mike Schramm Oct 23rd 2007 6:11PM
Megalomaniac, first, thanks for the well-written response, and for saying you like us. Much appreciated.
One reason for content popping up uncredited here is our tipline-- lots of times, readers will see something on LJ, or any other source, and send it to us uncredited. We then credit those tips, and unfortunately not the original source (because we don't know it). When we discover that that has happened, we'll usually update the post with a via link, or additional credit, but of course things fall through the cracks. We cite sources as much as we can, but this is the Internet, and there are so many connections and means of spreading information that some things just don't get covered. As a lead here, I think we do as good a job as we can, and I think we offer credit in as many places as possible. Lots of times I see stuff we post repeated elsewhere uncredited, and like you, I wonder if they saw it from us or if it did reach them some other way, but I have to give them the benefit of the doubt and just keep trying to post good stuff here.
As for your concern that we're overmining LJ, we definitely realize that the WoW LJ community (and the WoW Ladies community, as I've said before) is one of the best communities in the World of Warcraft. We consider it our job to cover what you guys are talking about and discussing. If you think all we're talking about is LJ stuff, then you and all of our other readers are more than welcome to not visit our site, and instead go over there and read only that content.
But obviously (and I'm biased here), I think we add more to it. Not only do we combine lots of WoW news from other sources, and not only do we have extra, exclusive content to add to it (like weekly features, strategy, and interviews), but I think that even when we simply post a link to a discussion on WoW LJ, that our writers make sure to add something of themselves to the conversation that wouldn't have been added otherwise. Even when we echo LJ posts, we add our own valuable insight and commentary as well.
It's your browser-- you're welcome to read and visit wherever you want. We're glad you choose to come here, and want to give you the best content we can while also giving credit to the content others have made that we're pointing out for you. In this case, I came to it via another source, and didn't know it had been posted on LJ. Tomorrow, I'll likely see something good on LJ, and give credit to a poster over there. Either way, all of our readers here get the best of both worlds-- they get our exclusive content, and they can click one link and go see everything LJ has to offer as well.

The editor of this site seems like a fairly rational dude. Why not broach this subject in an e-mail to him, especially if you see it as an ongoing issue, rather than make hugely antagonistic public posts that make your "community" look bad... all in the name of the glory of Judge Judy clips?
Chris Anthony Oct 23rd 2007 8:22PM
@28: That would be a fantastic example if Amanda hadn't linked directly to the worldofwarcraft LJ post where she found the information.
The Judge Judy video was posted on YouTube 17 hours ago as of 8:10 PM EDT - it's not exactly old news. It's not out of the question that your worldofwarcraft poster and Mike independently found the video this morning - in fact, given the age of the video, and knowing that Mike trolls YouTube (in the fishing sense, Mike, not the Internet sense), it seems /more/ likely that they found it independently.
