Brooms going bye-bye

November 1st is the last day of Hallow's End, so come next Thursday, not only will you be sick from all the candy, but the costumes, decorations, and yes, the brooms will all be gone. Get that magic broom flying in now while you can, because in just a week, they'll be takin' yo' broom.
Update: A few players are saying that the brooms will disappear after 14 days of /played time, not after November 1st. My understanding was that when Hallow's End is over, so is the broom riding. We'll find out next Thursday. Happy Halloween!

I really don't get that broom-addiction :|.
Bentas Oct 24th 2007 11:43PM
teh suck.
My Warlock will miss his broom.
Milktub Oct 24th 2007 11:48PM
Thank god.
I'm tired of trying to get a group together for something meaningful only to get "Sry, about to hit HH" as an answer.

Even the brooms in my mail box?
Its a federal offense to tamper with my mail!

I didn't read anything that would indicate the brooms expire before their specified duration, i.e. 14 days of play time. I don't think they're vanishing on November 1st.

I think the reluctance to give up brooms indicates a pretty large niche for a new small mount. My broom is such a welcome change from the behemoth screen real estate eater that is my netherdrake. The ground mount is also way more fun to ride around on than any of my other mounts and I'm convinced it isn't just the novelty factor. Reimplement brooms but with a more WoW-appropriate model imo, you've hit upon something good here Blizz.

I read his reply, and your article I think is a bit misleading. The brooms will not all disappear on the 1st at midnight. They will last the duration of the timer on them, 7 days on masks, 14 on brooms, and the timers are either off in game, or they are based on played time, not real elapsed time. This would make the brooms last 336 hours of played time. That can be a lot for those of us with serious altitis. The expiration lasting full timer is from last year, unless changed, and the timers being played not real time is based on pretty decent testing(aka none of my timers are out of the 14 day mark). YMMV

What about the candy and the Weighted Jack-O-Lanterns? Those items don't say anything about a limit on them so can I keep them in my bank until whenever?

noooooooooooooooo, joo can't take mah boroooooom!!!!!!!!!!!11

"336 hours of played time"
Usually durations are not played time, but real clock time. So, actually 14 after the end of Hallow's End all brooms would've gone.
Hmm.. what happens if you log out on your flying broom and it expires? Do you go splat?

@9 That's what I was wondering. I might have to equip my parachute cloak and find out.
ladyshiva Oct 25th 2007 10:00AM
Unless I see a blue post that says otherwise, it's 14 days played.
Honso Oct 25th 2007 11:08AM
This story's highly inaccurate. Broom mounts exist indefinitely until they're first used, and after that they last for 14 days /played. To state that the broom mounts are simply going to disappear when the Hallow's End event ends contradicts several reliable sources (some of which have even been posted here). We all appreciate you digging through the trash (AKA trawling the WoW general discussion forum for blue posts), but please refrain from posting obviously incorrect information.

14 days played? Like you have to play for 336 hours before they disappear? That doesn't seem right to me.
Maybe 14 days after you first equip them. But I still think that they're all gone on November 1st. If you all have any proof either way I'll update the post, or if I hear anything myself I'll do the same. Thanks all!

I find it hard to believe that it would be 14 days /played. That would imply that other cooldowns are also fully in realtime, meaning that I would only be able to make Shadowcloth every 4 days /played, which for me would take ages... as we all know, those work on 4 days IRL, as do processes like alchemical transmutes and so on.
It would be ridiculous to have a limited time item available for 14 days /played, especially as it's taken me 11 months to get to 20 days /played on my main. That would imply the broom would last all year...
Don't get me wrong, I love the broom and it would be great for my warlock, but if you honestly think these are going to be in your inventory come November 2nd you are surely mistaken.

"That would imply that other cooldowns are also fully in realtime,"
I meant /played time there... you get my drift...
HankD Oct 25th 2007 10:50AM
Usually these timers are on /played time... NOT real time. I logged into a low-level alt recently and discovered he was still carrying his candy and such from Valentine's day... since he hadn't been played, the timers hadn't run down. It's the same with all of the timers, I doubt they'd change it with this...
All my brooms still say 14 days, so I sent two of them to an alt I never play, so I can sell 'em off six months from now. :)
porovaara Oct 25th 2007 11:24AM
Most definitely /played as others have said.
This is why you save those 17 blue brooms no one wanted while farming the helm or the pet. They will sell quite nicely during the early spring/summer.

I don't think the tooltip can really be trusted, it still says 'good for only one use' on it.
exit stencil Oct 25th 2007 2:45PM
They last 14 days of clock time after the first time you use them.
