PTR Notes: Shadowstep slightly buffed, repair bot cheapened
It looks like a few more changes snuck onto the patch 2.3 PTRs that didn't quite make it to the last round of patch notes, and here they are.- Rogue
- Shadowstep (Subtlety) can now be used at any time, not only while stealthed. Now increases the damage and reduces the threat caused by the next damaging ability. Cooldown increased to 30 seconds. Range changed to 8-25 yards. Note was updated to reflect the most recent version on the PTR.
- Engineering
- Engineering potion injectors no longer require engineering skill to use.
- Jumper Cables XL is no longer a trinket.
- The materials required for the Field Repair Bot 110G have been simplified [and it now has 5 charges].
- World Environment
- Gas clouds in Nagrand now produce motes of air.
- Gas clouds in Zangarmarsh now produce motes of water instead of motes of life.
And being the intrepid WoW investigator that I am, I jumped on the PTR to find the new mats on the Repair Bot. They are: Adamantite Frame, Khorium Power Core, Primal Earth (3), Handful of Fel Iron Bolts (8), Adamantite Bar (6). Additionally, the bot now seems to have 5 charges, which I don't remember from before. The previous mats were Adamantite Frame (2), Khorium Power Core, Primal Earth (4), Handful of Fel Iron Bolts (6), Fel Iron Bar (18). Here's how it compares in raw materials: the new bot requires 32 less Fel Iron Ore, four more Adamantite Ore, and two less Primal Earth. That's a nice reduction in mats, especially considering it now has five charges, which effectively makes it five times cheaper on top of whatever the mats change did.

Are these engineering changes actually up on the PTR right now? I've got the current PTR client and while I do see the engr bot change (I didn't get the schematic until after the change), I don't see the changes to the potion injectors nor do I see the adamantite shell changes talked about yesterday. Anyone else actually see these changes?

I'm sorry, I know Blizzard said they'd look at Rogues... but I'm just not getting why Blizzard but the threat reduction on Shadowstep. Threat reduction on a PvP tree? LOL.
Any rogue specced that deep into Sub has no business being in a group or raid except battlegrounds.
I suppose it might help *a bit* in AV, but that's pushing it.

Adding 5 charges to the Field Repair bot is huge! That makes it much more inline with the old repair bot in terms of cost and puts it way ahead in terms of usefulness (one inventory slot for 5 uses!). I'm glad Blizzard listened to the players on this issue.

u guys say Field Repair bot 110G has been changed, bliz and WoR say 74A has been changed, i read about your little investigation into the chnages and am now curious as to which is right, or if the changed both
Eliah Hecht Oct 24th 2007 1:09PM
Well, I looked into 74A as the notes claim it was changed, but the recipe as it stands now on the PTR is the same as before. I assume it was just a typo on Blizz's part.
Wouldn't make too much sense to go and change the old repair bot at this point anyway.

I don't care about the repair bot (needed it exactly twice in the last half a year), but the potion injector becoming usable is great, that makes potions stack in 10 now rather than 5

if blzz want to at least start fixing engineering, they need to change ALL engineering items from trinkets to just normal itmes. i should be able to have 2 good trinkets equipped AND use my net-o-matic projector
Urthona Oct 24th 2007 1:29PM
I dont know if anyone's actually reading.
INJECTORS can be used by ALL!
That means engineers can condense 4 bag slots of mana or health pot stacks into a single injector. In the place of 4 stacks of 5, A warrior can have 80 super health pots on him, a priest can have 80 super manas. And an engineer can make a LOAD of money.
Brasson Oct 24th 2007 1:34PM
The change to injectors is absolutely fantastic. That recipe just went from "okay" to "awesome".
Krick Oct 24th 2007 1:52PM
The change to Jumper Cables XL is a good start. Now if they can just make them work more than 10% of the time.
I wonder if the normal jumper cables are still a trinket.

You know how they can make engineers happy? Make the repairbot 110G, so that you can get a cut of the money it makes from vendored items.
Scadam Oct 24th 2007 2:36PM
oooh it holds 20 pots? even better!
Angelus Oct 24th 2007 3:12PM
@3
The reason you're not 'getting it' is because: You obviously are some copycat PvE rogue who lacks any imagination or intelligence to make a good spec. Sorry, nub, but playing a character that requires you hitting two macros for 6 hours of raiding is the *exact same thing as* you letting your mom play your character while you eat a hot pocket on the toilet.
I do get it; and I will bury your cookie cutter rogue next to the others.

@12
i hear ya, Sub rogues post BC are not to be overlooked
surprised many at DPS - including Mut Rogues and SP's/Mages
after one raid, the leader asked me what mods i use..
lol

@8: I read that and nearly jumped out of my seat to go check and see if the plans were on the AH. NExt I see them, I'm buying them, no Money holding back. I hope this is a move to make more Engineering items generally usable.

Threat reduction on Shadowstep is an absolute joke. No respectable Rogue takes that tree for anything but PvP. It has to be one of the WORST PvE trees in the entire game I think. I would sooner take a Ret Paladins than I would a Subtlety Rogue :P
Suzaku Oct 25th 2007 12:06AM
Threat reduction on Shadowstep is beyond useless. Why does a melee DPS class have threat reduction on a ranged attack in a PVP talent tree?
30 second cooldown is still twice what it used to be, and prevents it from being ready for your opener every fight. It also has pretty much no chance of being used out of stealth in a fight if you did use it as an opener, because most fights will be done before the CD is.
Minimum range kills most practical out-of-stealth applications and prevents possible cool synergy with Dirty Deeds and finishing moves. Yeah, we can use it to chase down running opponents, but I'm pretty sure that's what Sprint is for.
As Shadowstep stands, most Subtelty spec rogues are considering it a nerf, and most Combat/Assassination spec rogues aren't willing to give up their talents and go deep-sub for it.
They need to drop the cooldown back to about 15-20 seconds and get rid of the minimum range. Even if it costs 5 yards of maximum range (dropping it back to 20 yards, even though 25 is still a nerf from the flat 30 yard range it originally had), and/or especially at the cost of the threat reduction, which as previously mentioned, is useless and illogical.
Make those changes to ShS and a few other changes to Sub talents, possibly combine some of the trash filler talents and/or replace/upgrade them, and it *might* make Assassination/Combat spec rogues think about respecing, or at least make existing Sub spec rogues happy.
Just my opinion, of course.
Icedtitan Nov 1st 2007 6:59AM
Personally i like Sub rogues over the other specs, but i guess its all in how you like to play. My raiding char is a pom/pyro mage, and ppl actually like to take me. Most ppl make fun of pom/pyro mages and i hear "LOL 3-minute man" at least 3 times a day, but in the end i put out huge damage just because i kno how to play my class and i have a move that is by far the heaviest hitting combo in the known game(to my knowledge).
Im happy for engineers getting looked at now, but being a tailor i think its kinda rediculous our only money making thing is bags and caster spellthread. now-a-days casters only roll tailoring if they need a non-raiding way to get decent gear(hello spellfire set). i agree with all the top posts, the injectors is awesome. also make all the trinkets just items and improve the jumper cables, and i think more engineers will pop up. its stupid to remove your good trinket, sit there for 30 seconds, use the eng trinket, then replace it with your good trinket all over again.
