Around Azeroth: Improved sun
Redbeard of Hellscream (EU) sends this shot our way, noting that Blizzard seems to have made some heavy improvements to the sun. And I have to admit, that brilliant glow does look quite impressive -- but has Blizzard changed things, or have we just caught the Theramore sky at the right angle and the right time of day?

Wow, that's in WoW? They must be on some sort of super computer with all the graphics turned up.

hmmmmm..... looks like bloom to me.
on second thought, maybe its HDR?

It's bloom. I think there was a video posted on moviewatch months ago showing it; pretty sure it was in 2.2 or something.

That's not the sun. The sky is simply on fire. Run Redbeard, run!

Bloom is a definite mark of a next-generation-title. *nodnod*

Isn't this in Menethil and not Theramore? The trees appear to be the same as the ones by the docks in Menethil Harbor, Wetlands. I stand to be corrected though.:/

Wait, the Hellscream (EU) server? Are there two Hellscream servers? Cause the only one I know of is a US server.

I've noticed it only at certain times of the day and in certain zones. It seems very hit or miss to get this exact amount of bloom to occur, but it definitely exists within the game.

Yep, as noted by comment #3, WoWInsider even ran an article which concerned the bloom effect.
Read your entries :D

I just took a similar screenshot yesterday showing off a brilliant sun effect in Mulgore. Check it out here:

I am absolutely convinced no author from this blog plays WoW. The screenshot is of Menethil Harbor in the Wetlands.
I play Horde FFS and even I know the difference between the Menethil sky and the Theramore sky (when you can bloody see it).

I caught the bloom effect once in Thunderbluff looking past the auction house. Very impressive, the best part is that it only lasts a short time and then is gone, so it is not eternal.

Your right #11. It's absolutely Menethil and not Theramore. Thing is I wrote Theramore in the mail when I sent the screenshot by mistake :p

@#6: Yes, contradictory to what WoWInsider wants you to believe, there are separate EU-realms!
Silverfire Oct 29th 2007 7:30PM
@#14: I was under the impression that Blizzard did not repeat realm names between EU and US. I was mistaken. Sorry.

thanks god! i thought it was just me. i got 'blinded' in Tanaris the other day whilst trying to gather scorpid skins the other day (horrible drop rate) and got jumped by 3 blisterpaws!
nice effect though, running over the dunes into the blinding suns with that spooky music playing... makes you want to head to Elwynn Forest for a drink!
