PTR Notes: BG Daily = 400 honor, Focused Will and Elemental under consideration
Patch 2.3: the patch that just keeps on alternately disappointing and bringing joy to the player community. Apparently, the staggering 4000 honor that had been previously reported to be the reward of the new daily battleground quest was a typo, of the "extra zero" variety. The correct reward is 400 honor, still up from its original value of 200:It's off by a factor of 10. Battleground Daily quest bonus honor is supposed to be equivalent to 20 player kills at your level, ie 400 honor at level 70. (Drysc)
The new Priest talent Focused Will, reported yesterday, is going to be redesigned, so don't bother commenting on it in its current state. This is a good thing, because as far as I know no-one really liked the talent they proposed that much.
We wanted you to know that we're going to be redesigning the new discipline talent, focused will, so please hold off on providing further feedback on the ability until the new version is announced and/or it's pushed to the public test realms. The goal of the talent will still focus on survivability. (Eyonix)
The intention of this talent is provide an alternative to the holy talent, blessed resilience, so the priest who desires a talent of this nature has more than one option, adding more flexibility to the talent choices they make leading up to either. (Eyonix)
And finally, the changed-up Shaman Elemental tree is under much scrutiny from the dev team at the moment:
Though not the best thread to plug this into give what was provided, I'd like to state that we are looking into this [Elemental] quite extensively at the moment. (Eyonix)

I was extremely psyched about the new BG daily quests. It was going to have me getting back into battlegrounds that I usually avoid, and I think it would have done the same for a lot of other people.
But this nerfing the honor by a factor of 10? (Sorry, I'm not 100% sure I buy it being a "typo." :P) No thanks.
Not only do you have to do the BG to get your honor bonus, you have to WIN it. I think struggling through a PUG BG where no one listens to anyone and the honor rewards are the same paltry BS they were before is worth more than 400 measly honor. Bleh.
And sure sure, it's "free" honor. I get that. OK. But really? Honor gain is so slow as it is, especially when PUGing. The only good honor I've earned at a reasonable rate is AV, and that's getting nerfed into the dirt.
I'll still be doing BGs. I want the rewards. But this "oops LOL we made a booboo let's take away the thing that got your hopes up!" crap is just ridiculously discouraging.

@1: Agreed. 400 honor is like what, a lose in AV with a few HK's? Even the afk'ers (yes, there are still oodles of 'em, and they're still collecting honor by the boatload) make that in a game or two with zero kills. And I believe they said that the dailies will not award any additional badges either, which makes them next to completely worthless. I've all but given up on PVP since TBC came out and have been hoping some of "improvements" would make it fun again, but so far all I've gotten is disappointment.

Honestly, 4000 honor for winning a single BG would have been absurd, especially if that's for a daily quest. *Maybe* it would have made sense to introduce some form of weekly quests and keep that higher number, but I think this "nerf" (of an unimplemented feature, mind you) is reasonable.

Wasnt it 2000 honor ? 400 honor makes it pretty worthless, espically considering they removed the marks. Put the marks back in, make it 1000 and that should do it imo.

Ah, good to hear that they're still looking at Elemental. When they said they intended 2.3 to be a DPS buff when it turned out to be a nerf, I knew something was up.
Personally, I think the easiest way to solve that problem would be to add a 5% damage coefficient buff to the Lightning Mastery talent. That would turn the slight nerf into a slight buff.
tython25 Oct 29th 2007 7:14PM
So there's no reason to do the dailies then...
Baluki Oct 29th 2007 7:22PM
@6: Yea, no reason. 20 extra kills a day and probably a good chunk of gold. Who needs them?

I'm glad Focused Will is going back to the drawing board, because they were way off base with that one.
Right now Discipline just doesn't have any oomph. They need to stop holding back and add a talent that really defines the tree and incentivizes Priests to re-spec.
Urthona Oct 29th 2007 8:32PM
Eh, I don't have priest but some of best friends...
I'd like Holy spec to be about MASSIVE +heal/damage from Holy spells. Like a Fire from Heaven Glass Cannon thing, complete with a Holyform.
Discipline becomes the raid-viable mana-regenerating maximizing spirit survivability spec, because, as we all know, healing efficiently takes a LOT of discipline.
The emphasis on Holy as the HEALING spec hurts it.
That's three

Ugh I was so friggin excited about the BG bonus honor and now I want to cut off my own leg.
While one poster thinks it is absurd, I admit that it was quit generous, but also look at the other "nerfs" that are coming in the patch. It would make grinding non-set epic pvp gear much more reasonable.
Consider this.. Say u want the PvP ring. 15k honor. it woudl take basically 3 days to get it via the daily quests instead of hours and hours of grinding AV weekend or otherwise twice hours and hours of grinding AV on normal days...... Ok maybe a little absurd.
But what I think is also absurd is the fact that they more or less require you to grind AV,easily the most screwed up battleground, to get any honor because the others don't give nearly as much. In other words, if you choose to grind honor in anythign but AV you are wasting your time.
Why not make all BG's give more honor in general and make AV/WSG/EOTS give Honor/hour on par with AV? It might make people actually want to do them.
AB is easily my favorite battleground but I can't grind it for honor with a clear conscious.

"AB is easily my favorite battleground but I can't grind it for honor with a clear conscious[sic]."
What on earth do you mean by this statement?
Junzim Oct 30th 2007 8:34AM
Good to see that Blizzard is looking into making Discipline the default PvP tree for Priests. We really needed focus in that area.
Blessed Resillience was just too tasty for many to specc Disc. I took the plunge a few weeks ago and although living without it hasn't been great, the benefits of Power Infusion and Pain Suppression have been great.
Sure I don't have lazy-mode healing from CoH anymore but I don't have to worry about imbeciles failing to use Lollwell. Plus Reflective Shield is a nice 'silly talent' with some use :)

Focused Will was pretty bad. Considering they have a resilience damage reduction cap of 25%, and it didn't get around that it was stupidly not working. It didn't even give the full amount of reduction it stated and having resilience at all was actually a bad thing. I'm glad they are going to change it.
Elemental needs more than a 5% boost. Considering they want to make a tier 6 5 pt talent give 1/2 a second off casting time... Idiotic. The reduction in cast time was not needed and it is funny that when they finally remove the mage damage tax on improved bolts, they hand it over to Shaman.
As for the honor thing, AV weekend just ended. In 1 weekend I got enough for the Veteran's belt. The other BG weekends never give enough honor to do that in about 6 hours. Why is it that they best BG for honor is getting changed to be a long grind and the ones that are quick have crap reputation and crappier honor? Can't people do a couple quick BGs in lunch break and get something decent out of it?
Hell, I'd accept not getting a mark and getting something I can turn in 5 of for a mark of any kind or a bunch of rep with one of the groups. Make getting the "Conquerer" title easier.

@11
I'm pretty sure he means that he would rather grind out honor in AB, but he would feel like he was wasting time, since AV gives more honor/hour.
I like the other BGs much more than AV, as well. But when your ultimate goal is to get as much honor as you can, it's kind of hard to pass up AV.
