Breakfast topic: Are you going to read the WoW comic?

Among many other fine personality traits, my boyfriend happens to run a comic book store. As such, he's gotten a lot of phone calls recently about the World of Warcraft comic book that's coming out next month. The success of the Halo comic has led him to order extra copies of the WoW book, but he's uncertain about how well it will do.
The comic definitely appeals to a niche audience, and a lot of players aren't too interested in lore, so those are factors working against it. But the book also has some top-notch writers, and no one ever went broke counting on WoW players to be kind of crazy about WoW-related stuff. This could mean a lot of walk-ins from WoW players on the street desperate for more stories from their favorite game.
I'm definitely going to check it out -- it'll make a great Know Your Lore, and I'm a hopeless WoW addict anyway. Plus, one of the dudes in the book is using a Thunderfury! How cool is that? Are you planning to read the comic book when it comes out? Why or why not?

Being a comic book colorist (and of course, general enthusiast) myself, I'm really looking forward to it. I thought the preview was great, and I can't see what they come up with.

Nope. I've read, or rather tried to read, the comic on the site and i find it absolutely horrible. The style, the drawing, the colors, the layout, the story... not for me.

Absolutely. I've already got the comic on pre-order and I'm (im)patiently waiting for them to start shipping the comics. Based on the previews I've seen, it looks like it will be a lot less disappointing than the manga. (damn you, Richard Knaak, for ruining yet another Warcraft project placed in your care)
So yeah, I'm not only going to read it, I'm very much looking forward to it.

I would love to, but right now my finances are tight - tightening the belt for my WoW account, so I can't see spending on a comic. I will READ it (don't ask how), but I think it'll be excellent. I would suggest to the second poster that comics evolve fast. I would keep an eye on it, and future issues may be more to your liking.

Yes.
Stranger in a strange land. I have the four online preview pages saved on my computer.
Although the art could benefit from more shading, lines, and detail, the plot itself so far seems interesting.
A lone man, lost in Kalimdor, at the mercy of the Orcs. I wonder if this man will be raised as a slave/gladiator, only to prove his worth to the Orcs and be seen as an equal.
Any unique insight into the world of Warcraft which doesn't follow the rigid focus of Blizzard plot designers is a refreshing change. I'd really like to see how this tale turns out.
Humans, working with or for the Horde... Gotta love that. ^_^

Already ordered it. I'm one of those people who like their lore to be in as many mediums as possible. Comic, movie, novels, games, bring on a cartoon!

If my local comic store was more accessible (as in, not 35 miles away), I'd be getting this.
As Is, I will wait until a TPB comes out.

I'll definitely be reading it, but stepping into the local comic store fills me with dread and shame. They might as well put a big "here be nerds" sign on the door.
Then again, I'm posting a comment on a WoW news blog right now...

Yep.

@12 Insecure much?
HalcyonGT Oct 30th 2007 11:39PM
Hell no.
While the Warcraft universe could generate a wealth of stories, the comic book model of business requires someone willing to continually pay $3 or more for a book that you can finish in 10 minutes or less. I'd rather read a WoW novel for the same price.
Furthermore, I'd really rather not read a comic where writers / artists have taken ridiculously high levels of freedom with concepts in the WoW universe. But whatever, simply put...no thanks.

Glad to see there is a lot of interest in the book. We've worked very hard to make this a book that appeals to both gamers and comic readers alike -- something of keen interest to the hard core, and something approachable for someone who has never played the game.
For those of you who want to find a store that carries the book, you can call 1-888-COMIC BOOK.
