Breakfast topic: Rarest hunter pets
Sometimes it seems that in our rush to be different, we end up just like everyone else. You can see this every day at your local Hot Topic. In WoW, I tend to notice this in hunter pet choice. Some days it feels like every single hunter has a lynx from the Blood Elf starting area, or Humar the Pridelord, or a nifty-colored Warp Chaser. Where's the individuality?
So I've decided to ask the community what the rarest hunter pet model is out there. All the skins are available here on Petopia, if you need a visual reminder.
Hordeside, at least, I see a surprisingly small amount of tigers being leveled to 70. It's such a beautiful model, and so simple to obtain -- I'm shocked there aren't more out there. The plague-stricken animals, such as bears and boars, are also underrepresented -- maybe only Undead hunters would want undead pets?
In general, there aren't a ton of spiders, serpents, crabs and birds out there, except for lowbies with owls. But looking at the Petopia page, there are only two models that I've never seen a hunter with. The white carrion bird model can be found at the named mob Trachela in the Bone Wastes, and the pure white gorilla is only seen on a rare mob in Un'goro.
What do you think is the rarest hunter pet out there? Hunters, would you rather have an uncommon pet, or do you prefer the cats and wolves?

I love my plain old white wolf from the dwarf starting zone. I've had Moonshine since I could first tame a pet and he has been there with me the whole time. I get mad when he dies.
Disclaimer: I play my level 62 hunter for fun, not lewts, I have other characters for that, so I don't care aboout other, more powerful, pets.

my lvl 66 hunter has 3 pets, i didn't tame any of them for their looks. i have a ravager for pve, a boar (yes plagued) for loose group pvp, and a wolf for tight group pvp.

Unfortunally Blizzard decided that all pets should be equal... no special attack speed or strange abilities... so dont wonder if you dont see much diversity.
Blizzard does not care about the diversity of hunter pets. Why croks, raptors spiders and so on have not a special one? As you can see in the data files of WoW THERE ARE special abilities, but blizzard doesnt release them in beware of the balancing... grrr
I am playing an Orc hunter for 2 years now and this pet politic by Blizzard S U C K S.
Hunters have no friend but your pets. Therefore Blizzard should give THE PETS some love (and the hunters, too.)
I would like to have a special rare pet, I dont like the cats and scorpion hunter mass... The hunter is the only class in WoW which can CHOSE his pet. Why Blizzard doesnt respect this?
The owls/birds were nice in preBC, but the abilitis of the fast attack cats/raptors you lose dmg as a BM hunter. the scream ability isnt raid compatible, it is not scaling with the raid and it lacks of a new lvl 70 level
the white gorilla is a really rare pet because gorilla are so rare. The can do nothing an their stomp is a ridicilous attack for a lvl 70 hunter...
SCALING! WE NEED MORE SCALING!

I've got a Humar and I see others with him every day. he's definitely the commonest 'rare' pet out there, apart from maybe King B. I even saw another hunter in a battleground with a Humar which had the exact same name as mine.
I've also got the white vulture and the white gorilla (what can I say, I like rares) and I've seen the vulture once or twice on my server so I wouldn't say it's all that rare.Since it's 65 or so when tamed and it spawns pretty often it's easy enough for hunters to just pick up and use as a levelling pet, unliek the gorilla which you have to go back to the old world for, camp for a bit, then spend time levelling it up.
However the gorilla is definitely easier to tame these days than it used to be: since TBC came in, Un'goro is a lot quiter than it used to be, and the gorilla is a lot less likely to be killed by some random guy before you can tame him.

I always get comments on my spider. I have never seen another Horde using it, and the colors match my outfit FTW :)

The spider was acquired at level 17ish on Bloodmyst Isle (Draenei zone).

@4: I tamed that model.. I couldn't stand the noise though.

My 29 Twink uses a Rotting Agam'ar, not too rare, but best skin in my opinion.

With this pet issue its true there are only a few pets vailble for PvE especially as a BM hunter, All other pet make you lose DPS wich is a shame really because now everybody goes for cats(Humar), ravagers, raptors or scorps. All the last specias except for cats are not atttractive to me imo. So if ya take a cat ya would go fo the rarest, Humar the pridelord. Most hunters think like this and end up with the same pet.
Other pets that are cool imo are birds and hyenas but there abilities arent good enough for PvE, Blizz should fix that, or better for all tamable pets

I got the only true blue windserpant from the WC and have never seen anyone else with this pet, these old models really do need love though as my free childrens week pet eggbert has better graphics than my wind serpant????...
Yes i also have Humar and the white gorilla with the grey face from the cave in un'goro....

I've been playing my Hunter as my main for quite a while. I used the tigers in the Barrens for the longest time, then changed to the tigers in SV. Now i'm on to a new tiger from Winterspring, the white tiger with black stripes not the white, purple, pink shaded fur. The pet i have is the one where you have to go there and summon her for a quest and kill her. I tried also taming her mate that she calls out to help her just to have them as a set. Although i usually die horribly since he does hit for 400's.. and when you tame of course you have 0 armor. And I used my quest already so i have to help someone else and also get a drood to help me. But we'll see one day :)

I waited and waited in Blasted Lands for weeks to get Grunter. But, he never showed. So, I tamed an ashmane boar while waiting and ended up keeping him. It's not all that rare a model or color, but I've not seen another hunter with the same one.

I ran my lvl20 alt NElf butt out and got a Lynx. Not a lot of Ally players on my realm have them...especially at that low of a lvl. Lynx have a unique appearance compared to the rest of the cats that's why I wanted one. I am sure they are really common amongst the Hordies though.
I also have a green Deviate Windserpent but whatever...
Tikkii Oct 31st 2007 9:05AM
I've got deathskitter: http://thottbot.com/c18647
he's quite rare as he's a pain to capture but well worth the 20g worth of stam cloth. also got a ravanger and my first pet, a NE starting place cat.
Moar Oct 31st 2007 9:06AM
Someone above mentioned that as a horde they have a unique spider from bloodmyst.. The skin they have is orange which can be tamed from another mob in blades edge. I use the red version which is only used by Zarakh the elite spider at the top of the hill in bloodmyst. I agree that the noise is something to get used to but after 40 some lvl's with it I don't notice it anymore.
jorelius Oct 31st 2007 9:08AM
The first day they became tameable I popped into ZG and got myself on of the big cobra type serpents, before the normalization he was a very fast mage killer, now him and his poison dot do their best work as the anti-rogue in AB. Aggressive pet with a dot ftw!
Moar Oct 31st 2007 9:10AM
Heh Tikkii and Dwuffy are what I am talking about.. great pet but I feel bad for those that lvl'd it from 17 and think it is unique..

I played a hunter a long time ago, and only made it to 42 (PvE server). It was fun, but when I switched to a PvP server I went a different path. So, I don't know which cat it is, but I have essentially been stun-locked on more than one occassion by a BM hunter's cat. No other pet gives my warlock any difficulty. It is a white cat with massive canines. It seems to be immune to fear...and that is assuming I can get Howl off (instant even). If that cat is three levels lower than me or better, and it gets within melee I am done. So, on a PvP server, if you aren't using that cat, whatever its origins are, you aren't winning as many encounters as you could. ANy other pet I get fear off and deal with the hunter, and if it gets to within beating range I can handle it, but not that cat.

I remember my days on my old horde hutner when I would bother my friends to do the Echeyakee quest so I could tame him. My favorite pet back in the day.
My current pet is a standard issue darnasian owl, cause I like owls and that's what I plan to stick with. I do plan to get some help to nab a dragonhawk and the wailing Caverns turtle pets to finish out.
I too wish there was more variety in pets, and that rare pets remained rare. Hmm...Since so many players LOVE to mindlessly grind, maybe there should be some way to mindlessly grind for a pet? Like a faction offers you a way at a certain level (as a hunter) to go and tame a specific one time mob with a unique skin...that would be awesome....

@17
I'm afraid you're wrong. All pets are normalised these days, and all cats are the same. Maybe you just keep running into the same Beast Mastery hunter and he is popping the beast within and intimidation before he engages? That's a stun and a fear immunity right there.
